Now I'm thinking that the bee should stay since that'll leave the rest of MMM and RBB to collect a few more tokens, and maybe the alligator, walrus or pumpkin can be skipped. ... actually I don't think the pumpkin can be skipped if I'm not using sandcastle cheats due to the lair water level. Or is there a way into RBB that doesn't need water switches activated? Anyway, all that is much much much later. For now: Spiral mountain done in 0:52. I'll post a wip when I'm done with Mumbo's Mountain (not soon).

Are you sure that's not the same file as the ccm wip...?

maybe it could be a TAS-only challenge of how to get to 10 million points the fastest.

Glad that there is some support. Well, I would hope that the bee's jiggies (I think there are 3? one outside the level, one in that room way up high... and the jinjo jiggy for ccw since one is in the beehive. Or not, my memory on that level is rusty.) and a few others would not be needed. That would mean only 45 mumbo tokens would be needed. ...but that's far down the road. I'm thining I should milk level one for all it's worth (including the mumbo token Sami skipped), except for the 4 notes inside mumbo's hut, and the 2 extra honey comb pieces. Comments?

I can estimate a around 15 - 20 minutes can be saved from not getting any extra honeycomb pieces (remember that one all the way inside Gnawty's lair in CCW's winter), and the 6 most out-of-the-way puzzle pieces can be skipped which could save another 10 minutes or more, I guess. I dunno, I like watching TASes but I want to do something and this is the game I know the mechanics of the best.

It's been a week so I'm making a new reply rather than editing. This is probably one of my favorite N64 titles, and I'm thinking of maybe doing an Any% run. I know the goals are ridiculously similar to what Sami is doing. Should I bother with it? Would anyone be there to spot mistakes? Would I go through getting the minimum amount of stuff needed to get to the credits normally, or should sandcastle cheats be used?

Is there any risk of explosions causing lag frames that waste time?

Wouter: the rules state that a TAS must begin from first power-on with no sram. that means that in most games, cinematics that are usually skipped in speedruns can't be skipped in a TAS, but that's the way it is. The only exception I know of is the super mario kart which was allowed to start from an sram with 150cc unlocked. As far as whether this game goes for in-level time or real-time... if it's the former, like Sonic games (sometimes real-time ends up being slower if arriving too soon gives you a huge bonus countdown) then there should probably be at least one frame where the time for each level can be seen once it's done, or at least a list or something. if it's the latter then, well that's obvious.

"OUCH MY HEAD" indeed. That was simply amazing and I agree with everyone else about how you used input for commentary exactly as much as needed be. Fantastic job, JXQ.

It has happened to me too but I always figured it was my fault for being a supermultitasker and snes9x not liking that. killing the process, restarting it and opening up everything in it again, and then fastforwarding to where it crashed would let me continue watching without much effort.

What would be interesting would be a game where you're some kind of ninja sidescroller and you have a mario-like running speed. When you jump, you do a front flip. You can swing a sword at an enemy while jumping. If you miss the enemy you fall flat on your face. But if you hit them in the exact right place (exact as in, no margin of error whatsoever) you go forward at 2X the speed you were at. And if you hit a 2nd enemy, you'll go to 4 times the normal running speed. THAT would be a cool TAS. Oh, and you can throw those little ninja stars while doing the jump, so the TAS could kill basically everything on the map.
other than the donkey kong country games are there other games that reward you with crazy speed for destroying ennemies?

20 minutes? Have you not seen link to the past? in that case the glitch removes the game from the tas.

unless someone figures out how to talk or initiate text in mario64 without mario's feet being on the ground, this discussion is really silly

I recall the snowhead tas using some technique that you couldn't due to whatever so it'll be even slower than 1.25 termian hours divided by whatever the ISoT's time factor is (unless I remember wrong). Also I watched form the beginning and when you get to snowhead you kind of fall off the cliff a few times before the end of the input file. normal end-of-file messing around?

Holy crap, people. I pointed out an EFFORTLESS way Rikku could improve his run by 7 seconds (By jumping to the left right before Bowser's death animation displays) and NO ONE has paid any attention WHATSOEVER to it!
Yeah, I think you missed my first two posts on page 123.
