i'm looking forward to the full run of SMW too. I really enjoyed the full run of SMB3, seeing how each level could be done at its absolute fastest. Keep up the good work..

I think we shouldn't underestimate the value of manipulating luck in this game - I imagine the critical hit/avoidance of monsters in this game would take off at least 4 hours from any current record. It might be worthwhile to get Gogo, as he could double any high damage dealt, and obtaining him would be quick. Leveling up might be wise though, that could be easily managed assuming randomness manipulation to get a bunch of T-rexaurs and so on and making sure they dont do ultima :).

I'm using whatever version is posted in the "other games" category, let me check...yeah its the same version. It's possible that the download messed up, or (always good to check) you did unzip it right? :) sometimes its stuff like that you know. If it continues to not work, theres not much i can do. At some point hopefull an avi will be available, and theres one built into this FBA so lets just cross our fingers and hope.

Absolutely, for a pure speed run, i would not kill the enemies, but as i said in this run every single enemy is killed which is kind of a feat! :) Hostages too, you're right, i should have planned better, could take off like 10s off final time. I think a pure speen run would take about 15 min. But it would ignore many enemies and may not be as fun to watch. But who knows? OK, on to metal slug 2 :)

A third the fun of doom is playing with sprites... I have so many memories of each of their animations, angles, etc etc. Another third is remembering each level as you play it. The last third is the sound.

So I just completed my Metal Slug 1 run - woohoo! But, the submission manager will not accept the Finaburn Alpha's .fr files, zipped or no. I dont have any filespace to host it on, so it is kinda stuck in limbo for a while. Too bad, cause its a tight run, I kill _every single_ enemy. It takes about 16:30. Anyone know the records on this game?

argh!! it ate my movie file!! well i started again and this run is better anyway. I hope it can be encoded at a high bitrate cause the graphics are sooo good! Its fun killing every dude, but i dont know if it would be possible in 2, 3 etc. I dont know if i can even keep it up for the rest of this game! Well whatever.

i've decided to start with metal slug 1 and work through the rest (if i dont burn out on them). I've completed the first two missions of MS1 and they look pretty good .. also i've added a goal to this video. I am going to kill _every single_ enemy if possible. This will probably add to my time a little bit but i think it makes it better and more brutal :) I dont really have a way to post the .fr file so you'll just have to wait. BTW Bisqwit if you read this, are you accepting movies yet for this emulator? If not then :(

i was hoping there would be a way to make the sim parts go very fast but apparently not. Ah well. I'll take a look at both to see whether they would make good runs.

Thought I'd throw this out there. I love this game and I play it all the time but do you think it would be an interesting time attack? I've never really gone for the fastest time possible, just tried to make my villages prosper and whup ass on the platform levels.

That would really be more of a theme run (i.e. frogsuit or chip carries dale). But I'd certainly watch it. Control would be outrageous. Tubular, even :)

exactly right. there just need be two priorities: 1. Speed 2. Entertainment Speed is the most important, and if anything can be added to the movie without taking away from the speed, it should be done because it is possible.

Soooo, I started recording a sample runthrough of Metal Slug 2. Looks pretty tight. I wanted to see if anyone is working on this or should I go ahead? I know neo geo movies aren't quite supported on the site yet but I thought maybe I'd go ahead and start. Also, I noted that changing the CPU speed (not the game speed) in game or while playing the movie in FBA will desync the movie, just FYI. Also, should I be doing metal slug 3 or 1 instead?

going to david wonn's glitch page will be immensely illuminating for you - many of the glitches used (all? i dunno) are documented there, organized by game. I know its not the same as hearing it from bisqwit himself or whatnot, but it is the info you're looking for. just google wonn glitch and it'll be right there.

so, I can't seem to open any neo-geo games with this thing, though other things seem to work fine. let me know if it isn't ok to discuss this, but it gives me a romset incomplete message, all neo geo games are missing their graphical data apparently. "asia-s3.rom" and "000-lo.lo" are missing according to it, but i've never seen those in any romsets. EDIT: fixed this problem.. yall dont need to know about it probably :)

no constructive criticism here, I just wanted to say this was a great movie. Way to demonstrate the limitations of the game and its 'physics.' Any idea whether this kind of glitch run could work in megaman 2? I'm more familiar with that one.

ARRRGH this game gets freakin HARD later on Plus, it really does not end? I just finished the 4th level. I'll play through 5... but after that its probably just looping. In any case, I'll see if i can get the fmv posted for a while when thats done, though I doubt it will be accepted. However i can submit it and you guys can look at it on the in progress thing :>.

well i did the first level and i can see what you're saying, but i think it will get more difficult and a little crazy later on. I'll press on, since my WIP ninja gaiden 1 run is not really going to break any records.

i say go for it, I would have already done this if I had a DVD burner. Reduced back to TV resolution these videos probably look very good. A nice menu interface and... oo, i get chills just thinking about it

I personally would be fine with a disclaimer that was a little bit lengthier - like, instead of just saying tool-assisted, it could mention slowdown and savestates as well. I mean, there could be in large print: "This video is for entertainment purposes only. It is not an attempt at a single-segment speed run." And then, in smaller print, say "This video used x y and z, but did not use a b and c." And of course the url.
