but is the fault of encoder, not the TAS.

I have made an encode of the run, which I am currently uploading. It has audio desynch but that is the fault of mupen. Should be up in about 3 hrs. Edit: The upload failed..... but, we currently have a torrent going: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AP0EO5J4 Sorry about it being on megaupload but filedropper refused to let me upload it there. Edit2: Dowload link, provided by bkDJ: http://snipurl.com/3o1a2

I do have a (free) site at http://duksandfish.free2hoxt.com which has 10Gb Storage and supposedly 10Tb monthly bandwidth, though i highly doubt it.

No, the best "download" site is Filedropper ( http://www.filedropper.com ), which i think doesn't require javascript, there are no wait times, or codes to enter, hardly any ads, just click on the button to download.

They really are needed for 3D games, though...
I hope you are not talking about first-person shooters. Because the only way to play those is with a mouse and keyboard. Game controllers simply SUCK big time for playing FPS games. They are just plain horrible. http://warp.povusers.org/grrr/consolefps.html
I have Halo fro Pc and Xbox, and I prefer using the controller, even with my epic controls i have set up for pc.

Well I know for a fact that Isai could most likely do any of the combos in this run realtime, but he's the best smash 64 player by a long shot... I mean, in tournaments, he'll beat second place by a 3 stock margin easy <_<; But for normal humans, yes... this feels very tool-assisted and very impossible to do real time.
I'm amazed at how good he is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEec8yifjDw

I'm still of the opinion that the controller is what killed Gamecube. It was a sturdy platform with a lot of great titles to its credit, and early on in its life, developers flocked to it from the PS2 due to the devkit's ease of use and the capability of the hardware. But the most frequent complaint overheard was that the controller was terrible. Face button locations, awkward Z button, completely unusable d-pad both in location and manipulation, and why was the cord eight inches long? Who the hell sits that close to the TV? I lived in a cramped apartment barely big enough for one person, and the cord STILL didn't span the miniscule distance from the TV to the couch.
IMO, the Gamecube controller is the second best to date, the first being the xbox 360 controller. As Raiscan said, I like the triggers, especially the way they are analouge, and digital (with the "click in" when you push them all the way down") I think the z button is in a good place. Also, <3 wavebirds :P

nice windows live popup :D Anyway, it was entertaining (I chuckled at Ness trying to absorb the egg) but the star finish made it seem slower than it was IMO.
How's this? http://www.filedropper.com/nesstas

re people making an encode that might be published for this game: I understand why you might not want to crop the image so that the image is untampered or whatever (but really is all that black necessary) however PLEASE use video settings that are true to the N64, like Glide64 Napalm with "read every frame" on. That way more special effects work (like the transparent end-level scoresheet)
I have been experimenting with plugins for ssb on my laptop, and found jabo 1.6 emulates it best, closely followed by rice, then jabo 1.5. Probably just my video card (integrated intel x3100) but Glide 64 Napalm is probably the worst of all i've tried, looking really weird, and getting error messages popping up every few seconds.

If anyone is interested, I am currently running a mario 64 TAS competition on gamefaqs ( http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=198848&topic=43530219&page=10 ) Where there are tasks that are sometimes just stars, and sometimes special tasks. That link is to the seventh and current task.

(EDIT: I looked at the encoding options and lol'd, "rc=abr bitrate=405 qpmax=20". A bitrate of 405 for a 640x480 encode is not enough to keep every quant under 20 which is why the size inflated to 307MB. If it had really stayed at abr 405, it would have been around 120MB (including sound) but a lot less beautiful.)
Ok then, and thanks, please could you tell me what settings to use with all these qp max and min thingys, also, what do b-frames do. (pm me if you want to)

Duksandfish: You have higher bitrate than yautja's to show a screen a quarter of the size, yet macroblocking is noticibly worse...? (Is it a 1-pass cbr encode?) Also it seems like you are capturing from mupen at the same res you are encoding to. Either antialias, or render to a higher res before encoding to 320x240, please.
The Second cycle encode was done quickly with lower settings, and a higher bitrate to sort of compensate for that, but look at the first cycle encode if you would, the audio bitrate is abit low on that though, but the video is pretty good Edit: Also, that was the direct capture from mupen, only with the audio compressed. Also, 2/multipass encoding doesnt work for me as i just get no video (the screen is just black)

Hey, here is a little something I made, A quick entry to Hyrule castle, although zeldas lullabye is being skipped in the next any % run, I found this entertaining to make, and it's a significant improvement to guanobowl's run for comparison excluding the owl skip Yet, I'm pretty new with Tas'ing zelda games so I estimate about 9 frames of improvement, overall http://www.mediafire.com/?ujizt0ye1my http://www.mediafire.com/?rywnjiwwkxm The m64 and st If someone could encode it for me to upload to youtube, I'd be very thankful My msn is Brian24RuleZ@hotmail.com
I encoded a higher and lower quality video: Higher: http://wbpzna.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pkvBkVH2-8vn_dzc6WUOfUqbpb5A5nfHqnfdfRyHgPJ_s-AYcTS8H8dp8eDkkwQs-eOo2jZ64dk4/Hyrule%20Castle.avi?download Lower: http://wbpzna.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pkvBkVH2-8vlexbmyexTt9qM6QY-QR3SORMxwkVYujK0LTMdBSbFgfj1s8pEN1oUQMSEbtU9E5oU/To%20Hyrule%20Castle%20MedQ.avi?download Both of them are x.264 avis, so if you get no video, then download the klite mega codec pack: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

lolbowserdanceandfixingit Anyway, now thats over with, i agree with Soulrivers, what was the point in holding it back? I know you HATE SS and all that, but you know they were going to find something out sooner or later......... Anyway, i think this argument is a total waste of energy, while people could be getting on with their runs...

Probably wrong to ask this question in this topic, but I didnt want to make a new one; when encoding with x.264 lossless setting in mupen, why do my videos look like this? When I encode with any of the other settings or other codecs, it's fine, it's just that one that gives me the problem. Any ideas?
