You need to switch to the Lantern anyway. So use the bomb and it automatically switches to the Lantern. I have tested this, it is guranteed to save at least 1 second if you get the bomb from the East Palace via drops from skeletons, and even if you stop the dash to grab the bomb from under the bush, you will still save time in that room. As for the Bombos Medallion, by then, you have the flute, so you can fly from the tablet right after you grab your Bombos. but the distance from the exit of the Desert Dungeon to the cave is further. You make this decision. Edit: I re-finished the dungeon 93 frames quicker.

In fact, there are two bushes under the flute kid which hold bombs, they're right next to each other. Use 1 for the tangela room, 1 for the heart piece after the dungeon.

Hi dezbeast, after watching your run, I discovered some huge flaws in my run which I must correct, therefore I am redoing the East Palace. I can't sit and discuss the 100% route at the moment but may I suggest you grab a bomb somehow, so after the Desert Dungeon, you can grab that heart piece in the cave (with the old man) and then you can save/quit from there. Edit: Test to see if you can ram that wall down.

In my opinion, that run was very sloppy. The author could have gotten more attack bonuses, finish races quicker, and drive more smoothly.

I attempted a Rock and Roll Racing TAS a while ago. It was a 2 player run, on Warrior Mode, using Tarquinn and Olaf. I played it on the SNES. I wasn't aware a Genesis version of the game was available, and had more tracks. If I were ever to do it, I'd definitely play it on the Genesis. I stopped for 2 reasons: 1. It was extremely difficult. The physics are very complicated. 2. Although the game has potential for a lot of action, it was a racing game, and racing games are generally boring. In my opinion, this is a bad choice of a game to do, many racing games are. If you feel you can whip up a storm with this though, please go ahead. I'm very interested in seeing one.

This totally slipped through me. You say you're 100 frames behind, did you get the heart container at the end of the basement, or do you plan to get that later on?

50 frames ain't bad. Considering that you need to move over to it to collect the key. I have no doubt you have optimized that room. I still think that losing 100 frames over the boomerang isn't right, but I'm not basing this off facts, and I havn't seen your run yet, so I look forward to seeing it and how a run looks without the boomerang.

I may be wrong but you shouldn't lose that many frames, even without the boomerang. The only place I could see you losing this many frames, is the room with the rat and the key (still in Hyrule Castle) For the blue knight and the mini boss, you can hit your target towards the door/cell and should lose no more than 15 frames to collect the keys. For the Eastern Palace, an educated guess says that you should lose no more than 30 frames, and this is in the dark room with the key under a pot. You should be able to collect rupees/arrows from the following things without any time loss: Octorok at the Statue you need to wait for (since you don't have the boomerang, manipulate it to be in front of you so you can collect it on your way through) Skeleton room: kill both skeletons and make sure they drop items, don't worry about picking them up. Two rooms before the Big Key, there is a monster you must kill to reach the switch, make sure this drops something. On your way back, you should consider going up instead of down, since you don't have the boomerang to collect the rupee from the second monster, though I'm not sure if you can pass those spinning fire things. OPTIONAL: In the second dark room, since you don't have the boomerang, use the pot you just picked up and kill a skeleton as you're waiting to pick up the key. Big Key room, throw the pot against the monster to make it drop a rupee (be it blue or red depending on what you did two rooms back) Room after Bow, you should make as many monsters drop rupees as possible. If you didn't get a red in the big key room, get it here, as well as a blue. Killing the second cyclops is the best option as you need to wait for the key to drop, though picking up the arrows is entirely optional. You should have enough arrows regardless, for the upcoming boss and the Llanmolas. Note: there is a room to the right which holds 100 rupees on the ground. Since you need a lot more of rupees than I do, consider this room, but personally, I think this room isn't worth it. Two rooms before the boss, there are two skeletons. Depending on if you did the OPTIONAL I said earlier, kill the skeletons in an appropriate order so that you will get the arrow drop. Final room: try to get at least another red rupee here. Now that I've thought deeply into a run without the boomerang for half the way, you don't lose as much time as I've expected. Though, I do see a few seconds lost in the Tower of Hera and Hyrule Castle part 2, but that would be it, until the end of Thieves' Hideout. Also, thanks for fragitious for bringing this up earlier. I have small doubt that the magic boomerang chest you will get, is the only chest of it's kind. You should do some exploring to see if there are any other chests that may give also give a magic boomerang.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1993/alttp.smv It is 848 frames quicker than the published run on this site.

Madzombie, how are you going to get the flippers before Thieves' Hideout? You're going to need the 300 rupee chest in the Village of Outcasts. Also, to collect the other items, you're gonna need the Flute + Falcon, which of course, is best to get just before doing Thieves' Hideout.

Time units mean nothing. You can definitely improve from them. It seems you don't understand the concept of using tools to assist you. Read this page: http://tasvideos.org/SuperMarioWorldTricks.html

I thought that was rather strange. I always believed it was impossible to get the magic boomerang from the fat fairy, until you said it was actually possible. I thought you had tested it yourself.

I should tell you now, just before it's too late for you to realize. Getting hit may save you frames here and there, but once you defeat a boss, the game pauses to refill your life and magic, so in the long run, it's worse. But as for the first dungeon, it shouldn't matter, because you have an empty magic bar anyway, unless you manage to fill it up along the way. So for best results, always defeat a boss with as much life and magic as possible.

There's that key lock function enabling you to hold as many buttons as you wish. So just lock the two other buttons on to it while you flap.

This game is very similar to Strike Gunner, which is another auto-scroller for the SNES. For Strike Gunner, you can pick a special weapon to use at the start of each level. There's much more variety, and in my opinion, to strategically pick weapons to suit the level and it's boss, make it more interesting. Do we need another side-scroller though? I'm not against this, but seeing as we already have Gradius video, I have second thoughts about this.

dezbeast: one thing you really underestimate is the flexibility of this game. Just because a rat is in your way, it does not mean you cannot get past it. My guess is that from entering that room, you either went straight up, or diagonal to the wall and had that rat block you. How about going in between those? I've noticed about rats in particular, they run on invisible tracks, and they never derail. In my opinion, it isn't worth sacrificing 26 frames for something that isn't hindering you. For example, if you can get past that room in x frame, then it's better to do that than x+26 frames. But if sacrificing 26 frames had help gain time, allowing you to leave the room earlier (sacrificing 26 frames to leave the room only 10 frames later than usual for example) then it may be worth it depending on the event. dezbeast, your run is great, no doubt about that, and in my opinion, you shouldn't emphasize on perfection as much as me (I don't mean to brag), because I'm obsoleting a run, where as you are creating a run, that's not to say you should go lazy though. Do set a high standard for the 100% ALTTP TAS. Edit: I forgot to say, getting hit may save 3-4 frames per use, but once you start beeping, YOU WILL LAG (5 frames per screen transition). Hence why I avoid the snake in the room with the key in the chest. Edit2: Excuse me, when I said this: After these 13/17 frames, you can hold the sword out for an additional 6 or 7 frames I only mean for when you hit a monster (17 frames), because, of course, you can hold the sword out for an unlimited amount of time by just swinging the sword without hitting anything.

It takes 13 frames to swing a sword, 17 frames if you hit a monster. After these 13/17 frames, you can hold the sword out for an additional 6 or 7 frames (I can't remember which) and throw the boomerang at no cost, just like holding a sword out and throwing a boomerang. See my run for examples, I use it 3 times in all: 1. Boomerang room 2. Zelda room 3. Rat with key room May I ask which rat you killed? It's best to kill the one I did (example 3 of the boomerang trick). For the record, I spent all night with that room, trying to get the rat with the key to come to the right as much as possible. What matters is your position when throwing the boomerang, don't bother trying to kill the rat as quick as possible. Although you don't want the rat to stop half way while coming to you. You can turn off transparency to see in the dark, if you didn't know already.

Here is a whip for dezbeast to base his run on: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1902/alttp.smv Forgive me for posting it so late, but I hope you can benefit from this. It beats my previous run by up to 61 frames. In my opinion, it can be improved by a further 10 frames if luck is on your side; I had to sacrifice many frames (around 4-8) to get around.

If you can get the red boomerang from the fat fairy then it's probably best to get it from there then.
