I get quite a bit of aliasing at 1440p youtube encode.

Back from the dead again? From the very brief combat testing I did, it is laggy and terrible. I haven't watched the most recent JP TAS, but like any 5000 hour rpg, scripting every single part of the game would be required.

My testing also showed using your fatality on Scorpion is faster than waiting for him to die.
Yes, it's about a second faster, but in this case you'll have to kill Scorpion again at the 6th level, where you'll lose a lot more time.
I guess the next step is running the N64 version with this route. I tested the first level and posted comparison times in that thread(I think)

One of the few games I found a useful glitch for! Good to see a finished run. The N64 version is at least 10% faster due to load times. It was the last version I was working on. I made sure the pillar glitch in level 1 worked. My testing also showed using your fatality on Scorpion is faster than waiting for him to die. I like seeing a real experience route.

I guess I spent a few hours on this game a few years ago.

I can definitely tell a difference between 1080p and 1440p on my 1440p monitor.
My question was about 1440p and higher stuff.
I prefer 1440p on 1440p monitor. 2160p has noticeable aliasing, which looks worse to me.

Can you guys tell me whether you see the difference between 1440p and anything higher?
Yes, 1440p drops many frames. Anything higher drops 3/4 of them. On a more serious note, my monitor only supports 1440p. Also, once IE11 is supported, I am sure it will drop 0 frames at all video settings. Hardware acceleration is our friend.

Toms Hardware article 4K60 Playlist Google Chrome only for 1440p60, 2160p60. I tested CPU usage with the Star Citizen video fullscreen. 2500k @ 4.7Ghz IE11(Win8.x): 1080p60 8% CPU peak. 0 visible missed frames. Still the benchmark. Chrome: 1080p60 41% CPU peak. many skipped single frames (not counted in "stats for nerds" menu) Very watchable. 1440p60 85% CPU peak. more skipped frames. in groups too. at least 3x more than above. (not counted in "stats for nerds" menu) Pretty watchable. 2160p60 100% CPU for the entire video. 8370/12179 dropped frames (68%)(These show up in "stats for nerds" menu) Completely unwatchable.

I've received minimal feedback on IRC and no feedback at all here in the forums. The minimal feedback I've received is that everyone seems to think I'm the best candidate to present at SGDQ 2015 because no one else wants to do it. :) So, last chance - is anyone at all interested in presenting? If I don't hear from anyone by this weekend I'll be submitting the ideas I've already presented here along with (hopefully) a pitch to run Scribblenauts, although I'd like to get permission from the authors first as that's my normal approach. As of *right now*, it'd be pretty tough for me to afford the trip alone for the week and far less feasible if assassyknitter comes with. Based on the time of year it's likely I'd go for the last part of the week (say, fly in Thursday morning the 30th of July and fly out on Sunday the 2nd) so there would only be three hotel nights, but even then, I could sure use some help with offsetting airfare. I definitely don't like pandering for money all the time and I hope to eventually be at a point where I don't have to. I'm extremely appreciative of the support I've received and I'll do my best to represent TASVideos well. As noted, for SGDQ 2015 I'm substantially limiting development time and instead hoping to focus on presentation and smooth delivery, as in, a well-rehearsed talk. Hopefully something really technical can be ready for AGDQ 2016 - if you're of a mind to help out, please let me know. And with that, I'll stop rambling. If you'd like to present in my place, no problem, just let me know by Saturday, and likewise if you don't agree with my game choices. Otherwise, I plan on submitting over the weekend and we'll see what happens. Thanks again to everyone for the support!
Having a well rehearsed presentation is a great idea. Even cue cards work. You did a fine job explaining what was going on the night you streamed ais523's nethack progress. Of course, a marathon environment is entirely different than in your own bed relaxing before sleep. It is tough to show someone something they have never seen before. To excite them without confusing them. Choosing a target audience isn't easy. I am not sure where I was going with this. The thread seemed very lonely, and you are a cool dude. I am not sure how much I can help, but I enjoy typing a lot.

They already have restrictions on youtube. I thought it was to remove monetization, not remove the video entirely.

No.

Yes. 28 ammo and 32 hit points (with all 8 hearts)
I guess I edited out the important questions. Does spawning a glitched item remove it from the game world?

I don't like seeing the sloppy input. Holding A instead of pressing it on the exact frame for instance. Or alternating between two dialog skip buttons for 30 frames to skip 1 box. We need perfection!

OK, so with the Flash player, you're pretty much guaranteed to get 60 fps video at 720p+ (provided you have hardware acceleration enabled) (tested in Firefox 34.0.5 with the Flash player, and I got 60 FPS video at 720p in both cases).
I believe that is incorrect. 60 FPS only happens with DASH support which is HTML 5 only. If indeed he has that, I would like to see the debug stats of it when playback, because I don't think there is such thing as 60 FPS YT with Flash.
I thought we cleared this up last month on page 1 of the thread.

For the festival of the hunt, the game takes Random Number 2, when the screen goes full black. Then it does a simple modulo 3. If equal 0, you got the lowest points, if equal 1, the middle points, if equal 2, max points. Then you just need to find a battle where your ATB is faster than the ennemy and where you can either attack right away or wait a little for the RN to be at the good value. Then there is Zaghnol. Here for the max points, RN2 modulo 50 must be 49. So it's a 5/256 chance. Once again I delayed a little the final blow for the RN to be correct. For the Chocobo H&C, only 2 items were necessary. I need a Ore for the Friendly Monsters/Tantarian and a Cacusha for the Ability Up. Rest is for Gils and I also took the extra rare items (1/1024 odds each, Barette, Anklet,...) well because it looked cool to dig up those.
Any updates?

Same route with better execution. I'm doing a few other things. I wanted to see if there was some interest in this.

So apparently there's a Japanese TAS that clocks in at 1:25. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm17294752 It was made in 2012 so I don't know how optimized it is, but the strategies utilized are interesting to say the least. In lieu of Fandango or Magnolia Frau, the runner opts for Seventh Heaven (crossbow found in the Wine Cellar). I knew an Arbalest would be best for ng+ and this selection confirms the notion that the best defense is a good offense. The animation might even be faster, I need to confirm this. The range on the crossbow allows the player to initiate combat every time, thus ensuring that a continuous chain combo prevents any enemy/boss from attacking hence negating the need for leveling up defense abilities. It seems like the TAS utilizes Instill/Phantom Pain combinations in conjunction with Raging Ache. This drastically reduces boss battle times although I am unclear how the mechanic works because it appears to be used consecutively which is something I was unaware about. I don't want to give away anything else...even stat selection differed from my expectations.
I watched part of it when I was messing with some version of my test run. His movement is terrible, but he actually has a finished run. More than I can say for any of my tests. I was think of starting over with his route, and actually optimize, since it is proven to work in a TAS environment. But then I didn't. I don't know what would happen if I actually completed a run.

9 year revival? The PSX version has gotten the most publicity recently, but the N64 version is much faster due to load times. My PSX level 1 test is 2 seconds faster than the published run. I hope to match that time on N64. Load time saved could be more than a minute. While it can be tough to get motivated on a game no one has talked about since 2006, I'll tinker with this the next few days.
