Anyways, I'm very interested to join in on this project. I also asked Taco and he replied with a definite maybe. Let's see if he can come to a conclusion soon.
! My bad dude. I didn't think you were actually committing to the run, unless Taco was joining too. Hit me up on a PM, or drop something in the SM thread if you are still interested. I still think it would be cool to organize a team effort on that run.

Well NameSpoofer and I were working on it together, but he vanished and I didn't want to work on it alone. I asked if anyone else would like to work on it with me, and no one stepped up. Maybe one day it will get done :D

Interesting run. Very entertaining. Technically extremely well played. Goal choice is questionable. Hard to determine if debug code should be allowed. I vote yes. Hopefully it finds a home on the concept demo page. Also, I wonder if this tech would save you time in the lower norfair entrance. I developed this many moons ago while working on the RBO run. It allows the ascent to happen much earlier in this room. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1330886216/lavalaker.smv

Though I cannot watch the last few levels without an encode, I was able to watch all the levels up to Control from the youtube feeds. From what I have seen, this run is amazing. Great job man. Also, thanks for including the bonus levels. The last run felt somewhat incomplete without them. I really hope someone can provide a high resolution encode (at least 640x480) using the Glide64 Napalm plugin. That would be fantastic to watch.

Let me draw attention to another recently rejected run, submitted under similar circumstances where there's no substantial difference in game play between the NTSC runs (and there are several there as well) and the PAL run. Does that submission warrant revival for publication as a separate branch?
But that submission was slower than the (U) run. Why would it be comparable to this run which is faster than the (U) run? Anyway, I vote yes to publish this run along side the (U) run, not to obsoleting it. The music is noticeably faster in the (E) run, and the game runs choppier. So even though the timing trick makes the run faster, the (U) run is much more enjoyable to watch. Keep them as 2 separate categories for completeness sake.

I figured I would start this topic because the "Games" sub section of this forum seems like it could use some cleaning up. There is no structure in place when it comes to creating new forum topics. As a result we have duplicate topics being created for the same game (~8 Ocarina of Time topics for example). Additionally we have no standardized naming format for the game topic titles; which leads to misspellings, region errors, capitalization problems, game misidentification, etc. Here is my proposal: - We remove or merge all duplicate game topics into a single topic. It makes no sense to have 6 Super Mario 64 threads. Things such as 100% runs or special type runs such as the swordless Zelda 1 topic, should all be placed into the main thread. - Any topic related to Speed Runs get placed in the SPEED RUN forum. Any topic related to hardware or emulation gets placed in the EMULATOR forum. - We introduce a STANDARD NAMING FORMAT for all topic titles. I strongly believe we should be using the names given by the GoodTools rom renaming software. It is by far the most accurate and complete listing of correct game names. Ex: "SM64" should be "Super Mario 64 (U)" - We need to distinguish the region. All forum topics should generally use (U). There are games that were never released state side, and those should use the standard (J) or (E) in the topic title. Japanese game should use the Japanese title, not the English translation of said title. - This will make forum navigation much easier. It also keeps all the ideas/demo for a specific game in a nice single thread. So since you maybe want an example of what I am proposing, I have gone through the entire N64 forum and created a listing with my suggestions (excel file below). The is currently 150 topics for roughly 105 games, which means there was many unneeded duplicate threads. I have renamed the topic threads based on GoodN64, and gave suggestions for some of the other strange topics in that forum. Of course this is a pretty big task for the admins to do, so I am not sure if it's even worth it, but I would definitely be willing to help. I would like to hear other people's thoughts. http://www.mediafire.com/?l95n11kyd8oo4h5

Well if someone is willing to get this organized, let me know. The route change I had in mind would mean large chunks of the existing run would need to be redone, so we need some really dedicated runners. Spoof and I had just started re-doing the necessary parts when he left.

the heat drains energy even while the reserve tank is kicking in, so by the time it finishes filling up, a large % is already gone.

I give this a yes vote. The glitching through the ground and high speed damage boosts made it entertaining enough to keep me interested. Those flying level were super boring though :P

Thanks man! I am glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately if I finish the run on my own, it would not come close to the level of precision seen in the first half. Spoofer was a subpixel master, capable of squeezing frames out of any room I myself completed. Another thing is that I have little time to spend on TASing anymore. If some of the other SM tasers are interested, maybe we can make it a group project.

I haven't touched this game in months, and I probably won't touch it again for a while. I figured I would post all the stuff I was working on up until I stopped. The main thing I was working on was a brand new RBO with namespoofer. It was a non-glitched RBO and it looked to shatter all existing records. It used a super minimal item collection route developed by myself about a year ago. Before spoofer's disappearance, we were making rapid progress. With him gone, I am not motivated to finish. On top of that, I found another big route change that would need to be hexed into this run. Please ignore the re-record count. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1553862179/RBO.smv Known improvements to this run: 1. Route change to collect the grapple beam and skip green brinstar cleanup 2. Alternate way to enter LN without turning speed booster off. This is a big deal, because it removes the only pause screen in the entire run. I'll post this trick later* 3. Saturn's new maridia tube tech *I plan on uploading 385 demo movies that I created through the past couple years. These include many tricks and testings that I did. I'll upload them all tomorrow or something.

It's too bad this got rejected so quickly. Not that I think it ever had a chance to be published, but now many people will miss the submission altogether. It's an interesting movie, but overall offers nothing when compared to the existing runs. It's also nice to see that you finally showed your (NTSC) any% run. Amazing that there was only 1 trick left undiscovered, that being the maridia tube. Shame you never got to finish that run :/ On a related note. I started working on a fully optimized RBO with namespoofer about a year ago. He mysteriously vanished without a trace 6 months ago, which makes me sad :( Anyway, the run was truly mind boggling and used an insane route that I developed and never thought would actually work. We got very far, and the route proved successful. I feel that since he is never coming back, that I should upload all our work in hopes that someone finish it. I'll post it on the SM thread in a few days.

Awesome to hear that someone is taking on this game. I was never able to finish it when I was a kid, so it would be nice to finally see it beaten. Good luck!

Great run so far guys! I was wondering something though. Would it not be faster to simply skip the kokiri sword and shield, and instead just purchase 2 deku sticks at the shop. Use on of the sticks to escape the forest and then the other one can be used for the temple of time skip? I noticed that the sword was only really used for the forest escape, and the shield was only used for the hyrule field superslide. I know the deku stick forest escape is much slower, but i figured that the time saved by not collecting rupees/sword/shield would make up for the difference, plus some. I am sure I am wrong, but I figured I would mention it anyway.

any updates on that? I still haven't figured out what happened in that smv (and how it should be useful when the game crashes afterwards), so I'm curious about actual uses
Well it turns out that I was not able to find any useful spots for it, which is quite disappointing. The part where the game crashes is optional. If you wanted, you could simply stop the SMV while samus is blue, press down, and bingo you have a shinespark (charged in zero distance). Having the ability to charge a spark in without moving forward would be incredibly useful except that we need a spike to run on top of, and there is no good spots in the game for that. Also, I think your estimates for the armpump are pretty spot on.

It would work, but only if there was a viable damage source near by. It requires a '60 frame recovery time ' type damage, which unfortunately is not available in the red brinstar shaft :/

Here is my latest creation..... "The Hero Charge Bluesuit on a Dime" http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/437710861/hero_.smv This trick also lends itself to some of the craziest game physics ever, breaking the game in many ways. Hint: Try jump or reversing direction while in this state. I am currently looking for nice legal uses for it though... I am sure I'll be posting quite a few.

Cpadolf summed up the speed preservation trick pretty well in this post. I am still looking into further applications for it. Here is another tech I just created. Thanks goes to Cpadolf for his samus on crack demo, showing that grapple + speed booster + damage boost can lead to some pretty nifty stuff. here ye be It saves 85 frames compared to the spark that is done in the current run. This demo doesn't show it, but there is a problem with using this in the actual run. The last 2 enemies in the room must be killed before the door will even open. This may require some tinkering before it can be of use in the 100% run.

I figured this thread needed some rejuvenation. Here are 3 new highly advanced techs I developed for a future 100% run. All three techs use a similar principle (speed preservation), but in different ways. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/603799561/gravitystatue.smv Tech 1 - Super Quick Gravity Statue This tech uses the speed preservation trick in combination with the forward damage boost tech. This is a damn fine looking tech. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/261730260/xrayspark.smv Tech 2 - Red Brinstar Super Short Charge Finally Executed Once thought impossible... we can now spark all the way to the Xray room! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/225737134/topofWS.smv Tech 3 - Top of Wrecked Ship A pretty big timesaver, though it would be hard to spot the difference from what is currently used unless you knew to look for it. I made an interesting observation about the speed preservation trick. The trick can only be executed on an object that causes the '60' frame damage recovery. Almost every creature in this game will cause 95 frames of invincibility to samus after being hit, but there are certain thing]s that will only cause 60 frames of invincibility. These things include spikes and electric sparks. I am sure there are others to be found. There would have been a sick amount of other techs if this rule did not exist.

Close call between Lord Tom and cpadolf for me. Lord Tom pwned SMB3 and NES Metroid, which are two of my favorite runs. cpadolf cranked out 2 metoid runs and 2 contra runs, all of which were amazing. For the sheer number of runs, I gotta give the edge to cpadolf.

Breaking the fourth wall is essentially when an actor/character is aware that they are part of a scripted event, and make it known to the audience. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_wall Amazing run and a large improvement. The subtitles really added to the awesomeness.

The glitched run has such a low rating because of the 5-minutes of X-Ray climbing through the statue room. A 100% run using X-Ray glitching would not have anything approaching that level of monotony, especially if we went with Tub's Non-Arbitrary Restrictions (TM).
I honestly find it hard to believe that people lowered their rating of a movie, because it contained a single 5 minute chunk of xray climbing. That part could have easily been fast forwarded past. It would be a bad reason to lower the entertainment rating. Rather, I think people voted low, because the run shows off much less of the game. In fact, the more of the game that is shown, the higher the ratings tend to get. 100% - longest movie, shows most rooms (highest rating) any% - middle movie, shows slightly less of the game (lower rating) glitched - shortest movie, shows very little of the game (lowest rating) The 100% run should show as much of the game off as possible, not skip major portions of it. If I wanted to see the game broken, I'd watch the glitch run.

Let's say that one were to use Xray glitching on the 100% run.... What is to keep this new run from being obsoleted by another 100% run which uses the plasma/spazer beam to prematurely explode the planet. I can confirm this is entirely possible on the real console and on many different emulators. When we enter the realm of game breaking glitches (which xray falls into) then we also have to consider the very extreme (space/time). If xray is used, I would expect the space/time beam to used as well. It would be only fitting. Do you guys honestly want the game to be broken to that extent?? It wouldn't even be entertaining anymore. This is why the glitched run has the lowest rating of all published runs; because excessive glitching is not nearly as watchable as each room being expertly played.
