I am almost certain that it would be slower to take the power bombs from blue brinstar. Since you need the collect the power bombs in the upper area of the red brinstar shaft, you will already be very close to crateria. Backtracking all the way to blue brinstar would be a big detour, especially when you consider the fact that you will need to refill at your ship anyway.

I don't think you can get back to blue brinstar from red brinstar without having the wave beam, I think there is a blue gate in the way. Collecting an extra etank won't really save much time at all, so I don't know if collecting it is such a great idea. If you do collect it, you might as well collect a bunch of other items as well. Items such as the ice beam or another missile pack would probably make the final time lower.

I have faith in you ridgewaycer, don't listen to these non-believers. I will expect to see some sort of demonstration though within a couple days, showing off your claims. Congratulations Chalame on your 500th post. I can only hope that one day I too will have over 500 posts. That way I would be an Active player instead of a just a measly regular player.

Even though it may be a little sloppy, it gives a great idea for what the final time will be in an optimized run. I am also curious to know if the intro movie method that kejardon posted worked.

1.51 has a built in reset function. Just pause the emulator when you are recording and click reset from the file menu. The game will continue recording as usual. Have you finished the test run yet?

evilchen, you have to rename the actual snes9x.exe file to 'snes9x-1.51'

After a couple hours of roaming around zebes and watching the memory watcher, I have compiled the following figures. There were two things I was unable to find a suitable enemy to test on. The screw attack and the super jump echo attack. I just put down the numbers that kejardon posted for those two. Power Bomb Combos: Ice = 90 per hit, 4 potential hits Spazer = 300 per hit, 2 potential hits Wave = 300 per hit, 4 potential hits Plasma = 300 per hit, Time based attack length Missiles & Bombs: Missile = 100 Super Missile = 300 Power Bomb = 200 (can hit twice for up to 400) Bomb = 30 Contact/time based attacks: Fake Screw Attack = 200 (Hits once) Real Screw Attack = (2,000 according to kejardon) Super Jump = 150 per frame of contact Super Jump echo = (4,096 according to kejardon) Blue Echoed running = 500 per frame of contact Grapple beam = >200 (only works on enemies that can be killed in a single shot?) Grapple beam Draygon = 256 every 8 frames, on the 4th repetition it takes 16 frames to inflict any damage and then starts the cycle over. Beams: Beam = 20 Ice = 30 Wave = 50 Spazer = 40 Plasma = 150 Ice + Wave = 60 Ice + Spazer = 60 Ice + plasma = 200 Wave + spazer = 70 Wave + Plasma = 250 Ice + Wave + Spazer = 100 Ice + Wave + Plasma = 300 Charged Beam = 60 Charged Ice = 90 Charged Wave = 150 Charged Spazer = 120 Charged Plasma = 450 Charged Ice + wave = 180 Charged Ice + Spazer = 180 Charged Ice + Plasma = 600 Charged Wave + spazer = 210 Charged Wave + Plasma = 750 Charged Ice + Wave + Spazer = 300 Charged Ice + Wave + Plasma = 900 Hyper Beam = 1,000 (all charged beams are 3 times the power of their non-charged counterparts) ---------------------------------------------------- Mini Bosses: Torizo = 800 (2x Super Missile Damage) Spore Spawn = 960 (2x Charged beam data) Ex: Charged Ice does 180 instead of 90 Crocmire = Hit based Botwon = 3,000 Golden Torizo = 13,500 (2x Super Missile Damage) Pirate Elites = 1,800 each (2x Super Missile Damage) Main Bosses: Kraid = 1,000 Phantoon = 2,500 (2x Super Missile Damage) Draygon = 6,000 Ridley = 18,000 (2x Super Missile Damage) Mother Brain 0 = 3,000 Requires 6 missiles (super or regular) to break glass before any damage can be inflicted Mother Brain 1 = 18,000 Mother Brain 2 = 36,000

I will make some more demos, and I am also going to post the damage data for every single attack that samus has. I haven't seen any reliable source that accurately states all the damage info, so using memory watch I should be able to compile a perfect list. Did anyone here know that if you hold Y and then press the select button, the item selected on the status bar will blink instead of being solid green. Using the item a single time will automatically unselect it. Though I don't see any use for this in a speed run, it might be interesting to know.

haha, thanks alden :) Though I am confident my run could be beaten by a few frames. I would love to see a program that could map the fastest route.

laughing_gas, The kejardon run is a severely glitched up mess of a run. It is comparable to the Zelda 2 glitch run, the Zelda 3 glitch run, the Zelda 4 glitch, all of which fall into a separate category than the any% run. It eliminates a huge portion of the actual game. Even though it would be by far the fastest run possible, the severe glitches take it into a totally different category.

This cannot serve as the low% movie, because technically 9% is already possible. The only categories it can satisfy is a "glitched out/fast as possible run" similar to the Zelda 3 run, or a no boss/mini boss run. Though I think the 14% should remain as the low percent run because it doesn't use hideous glitches in order to skip 90% of the game.

Cool, I am looking forward to seeing the finished test run. You should be able to beat the frame counts on ceres in my run, since I did not optimize subpixels. A couple of the rooms are improvable by 1 frame. JXQ's ceres run is just about perfect, so don't expect to beat his frame counts. He optimized all the subpixels on the parts before and after ridley. If you need any help let me know. I am currently on ceres myself and I am optimizing all the subpixels for the escape sequence which is proving difficult.

Does anyone else prefer the natural colors over the real colors? comparing the color in JXQ's screenshot to the others for example is much more pleasing on the eyes. Anyway great job on the run, it looks fantastic.

And here I thought I was the only person on the planet to own this crappy game. The run seemed well played, but the gameplay is a bit repetitive. I don't see a game like this being published, but it might be worth a shot anyway. I will probably vote yes if the run is short enough.

Looking great moozooh, the page now has almost all known/useful tricks on it. One noticeably absent trick is the continuous walljump. It would be nice if that could be added, preferably with information on the min/max speed and height required to execute it. Another issue is the wrap-around shot technique posted on the page. I have no idea how to do it, and the description is pretty vague. Maybe some sort of clarification along with a demo SMV would make it easier to understand. Edit: Also forgot to mention low boosting, that should be on the page too even though it only saves a single frame per use.

Lately I have been trying to do the statue room x-ray climb without using the crystal flash. Unfortunately Samus hits her head once she gets to a certain height and she cannot advance any further. I think that it might be possible to go through the ceiling if Samus was further into the door. The best X position that I have gotten so far is 36. I think it might be possible to get 35 if the subpixels were perfect. Even still I do not know for sure if it would work. Well I encourage others to try as well. This would take the 10% run that evilchen is working on, down to a 6% run. My attempt can be seen here: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5591/xray.smv The memory address for the X position is 7E0AF6

moozooh is a beast! He succeeded where many have failed. This new trick will make 24 minutes in-game timer possible for my new any% run. The only thing to do now is figure out the best spot to recollect the 5 missiles.

Congratulations AngerFist and Baxter, you two make for an incredible team. Will edit this later when the AVI is posted, though I am sure this whole run will be damn amazing. I'll go ahead and vote yes in the mean time since I have seen enough of it to know how awesome it is. Edit: I think the run turned out pretty nicely altogether. More visual synchronizations between the megaman sprites would have been cool, but trying to do that would have cost time so it wouldn't be worth it. This run serves as the best possible example of how tool assistance can achieve the unthinkable.

Yea Saturn, I too have much respect for Inichi and his creativity. I think I will finish the run, and it will be done using the U rom. I refuse to play a game in a language I cannot read. Also laughing_gas is right, I see no need to cater to the people who compare two completely different games together. Back to work...
