Ok easy enough. When your character is not moving at all and is in a complete stand still, run a search and click the button "entered value" then type in "0" into the box. Most game will represent no movement as the number 0. Then move your character right or left in order for him to start the running/walking animation and pause the emu while in the running animation, then go back search and click the button that says "greater than" and click search. Now the 0 should be a greater value because the character's momentum has increased and is no longer 0. After you have run the search, go back to the game and hold down left or right plus the run button, now your character will be running even faster than he would during normal walking. Pause the emu while running, then go back to the search and click "greater than" and click search again. The value should be even higher than the value from the second search. After that, stop the character completely and search one more time for the value "0". There should only be one memory address left. I quickly did this for aladdin and got this value; 7E08F5, 1u

What game are you referring to? I may be able to find it for you.

It is actually very easy to find memory addresses in any game. I will give you an example of how it can be done. Lets say you want to find the hit points of a boss you are currently trying to kill. Before you first attack the boss, pause the emulator and go to the Cheat Menu, then select Search for new cheats. Hit the reset button, then exit the cheat search screen and go back to the game. Attack the boss one time (this will lower his HP), pause the emulator again and go back to the cheat search menu select the radial button that says "< Less than" because the HP of the boss will be less than the last time you ran the search function. It is selected by default anyway, then press the button that says "search". This will reduce the amount of results to the memory values that have reduced in size since the last time you ran the search. Go back to the game and damage the boss again, then repeat the search, now the amount of memory addresses should be even smaller. Repeat this process until there is only a manageable amount of addresses left, or only 1. Then select that memory address and click "watch" now you will be able to view the HP of the boss in real time even though the game itself does not display the information.

It should work with glide64 and a voodoo wrapper like L4yer said. I do plan to finish this run one day, it seems to have a lot of potential to make an entertaining tas.

wow, thank you catnap222. That is a very cool trick, and can save about a second.

Both suits must be acquired in order to survive the Mother Brain's unavoidable energy attack that results in Samus losing all but 1 unit of health. Edit: moozooh beat me to it. And a big thanks to Saturn for encoding this. Thanks a lot man!

If you listen to all the character voices in slow motion or in frame advance, it is obvious that they recycled the words "wing damage" and simply used it at different speeds for each character's voice. Anyway this run was very well made, and though some levels got repetitive there was nothing the author could do about it. Going to toss in another yes vote.

I unfortunately do not gain vertical speed doing this. Like you said it actually slows Samus' descent so that some platforms can be passed over without having her landing on it and coming to a complete stop. It is a cool trick. Thanks for being so supportive of the run. I too do not really like seeing that no vote there, but everyone is entitled to their opinion I suppose. Xkeeper said that the run has too much "run to next door, fire, enter door", even though ever other Metroid game is just like that.

Very cool run! Clearly a shining example of something only possible using tools. Gonna give this one a solid yes vote.

Nice movie once again. I liked the camera angles better than AKA's submission, even though the game play is almost identical. Gonna vote yes. You guys should really look into finding a new route or getting into bowser 2 without mips before making another run. I like competition but I feel there are going to be new routes discovered. AKA, you should cancel your submission. Otherwise it will be rejected, a similar thing happened to me once when I submitted a movie. It is better to have a canceled movie than a rejected one in your portfolio.

This is an awesome run, and a great improvement time wise to the old run. Certainly voting yes.

I believe JXQ said 30-40 frames can be saved.

not sure exactly what you mean, but my route is the fastest one thats aims for real time. I made ABSOLUTELY no effort to lower the in-game clock, therefore my statement is perfectly valid. In fact I made many in-game clock sacrifices to lower the real time clock as much as possible. If you want an example; saturn's super metroid run will be around 23-24 minutes on the in-game clock, but will be at least 2 minutes slower in real time. Hope that clears everything up.

You forgot the three super missile trick to get into Kraid's Lair, I double checked and weapons management didn't seem to be an issue as you never dropped to below 2 Supers in Kraid's Lair and you had 5 or 6 when you faced Kraid.
In fact I did not forget about this trick but made a conscious decision not to use it. I talked with JXQ and when I found out how much time it saved, it was far less than the amount of time it would take for me to collect 2 super missles somewhere else. The super missle stock always needs to be high in my run, no matter what. I need to have 6 supers for the guardian pirates right before ridley, and there are 8 doors in norfair that require a super missle each. Oh and 24 in-game is certainly possible with a different route, but the real time clock will skyrocket if I were to aim for in-game time.

When a power bomb explodes, I try to keep all movement to a minimum to minimize the extreme lag. Jumping higher would mean the power bomb would spend more time on the screen and would negate the few frames gained by building momentum. The spin jump is always canceled so that I can use corner boosting to push samus down closer to the ground by one frame. I paused for a couple frames during the escape sequence shinespark because the timing of the room kept causing samus to hit the blue platform directly above her head. I cannot explain how or why she is able to pass though it otherwise. I bet a couple frames could be saved here at most.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. These comments make all the painstaking work worth it. For the record I did not discover the baby metroid skip, and I do not know who did. JXQ was the one who showed me the trick though. And saturn, that seems like a pretty good screen shot idea.

I just have to back track a little after I have passed though all the pillars, it should be much faster than powerbombing the ceiling. Edit: Here is both rooms done in order moozooh. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3613/test.smv

I think I found a good alternative to walljumping/power bombing the vertical pirate shaft. Check it out. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3612/pirate%20hater.smv

Well for the vertical shaft with the golden space pirates, I am going to use a similar strategy that Teri uses in his 14% run. I realize it looks slow and sloppy, but it will certainly lead to a lower movie length if I skip the boots. However, I am fairly sure I will be collecting the space jump for the voyage from mardia to tourian. Also, I made a good amount of progress today, I just finished killing kraid. I am almost a full minute ahead of the 14% run which uses an identical route except for the fact that I collected the spazer, which made the gain slightly less than it would have been had I not collected it. While the run is pretty tightly optimized, I am sure there are many little things I am overlooking. There might be enough tiny errors to warrant a second version when this one is submitted. My main goal right now is to get a time that is lower than 40 minutes in real time. This may not be likely to happen, but that goal keeps me very motivated :)

Thanks Orgeslayer, I will look into that when I get to kraid. As for the progress of my run, I have just eliminated phantoon. Unfortunately he did not drop items like I wanted him to and I ended up losing a couple seconds having to fire at his blue flames for missles. I still killed him in 2 rounds though. I am now pretty confident that phantoon can be 1 rounded with just 3 missile packs, not 4 like some have suggested. I decided I will not be posting any more smv's on the forum, because I want people to be surprised when the run is finished. I expect it to be complete within 2 weeks as long as I don't hit anymore roadblocks (phantoon took me way longer than it should have).

Rocky 4 was cool, I enjoyed seeing that roided up monster get his ass kicked. And this has got to be the coolest rocky montage I have ever seen, very inspirational; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvn8165I1Kc
