Casting exit is way faster than waiting for kaeli to obtain a critical. It sometimes requires serveral hundred frames before she can actually get a single critical hit.

Now that I finished my Mystic Quest run, I want to finally complete my Chrono Trigger movie. I am trying to make an avi file of my current wip movie, so that I can easily refer to it while making my new movie (comparing battle times and such). For some reason Snes9x wont let me make the avi file. Every time I start recording, the recording is abruptly stopped as soon as any battle begins, and a message saying "configuration settings changed" appears in the window. The avi does not record anything beyond that point. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Or is anyone willing to record the movie for me?

thanks Atma, glad you liked it. The seed glitch may not be possible in fireburg, I havent yet checked. It would be usefull if it worked. The backtracking required for the cure spell was mimimized by the fact that I have the exit spell, but in future runs getting the cure spell early would be a good idea.

Thanks OmegaFlareX. I actually learned alot about this game from your test run, without it I probably wouldn't have even considered running this game. I havent made much progress in the past few days, I need to manipulate Pazuzu to go to the sixth floor of his tower. For every frame which I test to see if he goes the the sixth floor, I have to engage in many minutes of battle. I will have some free time in a couple days so I hopefully the run will be done by sunday.

I think you are right Mlandry, alot of people would rather have it done the fastest way. I will probably end up using the cure spell because it should be faster, however I need to do some testing to see if it actually is. The cure spell is exactly 60 seconds out of my way once I enter focus tower, and with it I can shave 9 turns off the dark king battle. The question is, are those 9 turns more or less than a minute in length?

I've made alot of progress, I am up to Pazuzu's Tower. Right now I am exactly 30 minutes ahead of the run at the SDA, all of this time comes from extreme luck manipulation and skipping almost every single chest in the game. The only things aquired so far is the exit spell and the white spell, everything else is skipped. On a side note, I stumbled upon some crazy glitch which allows me to have infinite seeds. The trick isnt really usefull to me but it is still interesting. Pay attention to the screen when I purchase the seeds from the old lady in windia. http://hstrial-nway1.homestead.com/files/mystic_quest.smv

Life really isnt that important because every partner that joins your party comes with the life spell. Plus life can only be used to heal 1 party member. Cure can heal both members in one shot, even though it doesnt heal as much. Just out of curiousity would anyone here think it be more entertaining to fight the dark king normally (without cure)? It would be longer but not by more than a minute or so. The use of flare and white + the music is awsome, so maybe I should just forget about cure.

I just finished the lava dome and my time is one hour and two minutes. Well it turns out that I do need the cure spell so I will have to make a small detour to collect it, luckily the exit spell will speed up the process.

I decided to take up this game while finishing up my chrono trigger run. My movie is two and a half minutes ahead of OmegaFlareX's run, up to the falls basin. The reason for the time saved is much better luck manipulation and skiping the cure spell and fire spell. I dont think there are any mistakes in my movie so far, so unless someone can see a mistake I will be submitting this file when it is complete. All synce settings are checked, using the (U) rom: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/456/mystic%20quest.smv

The same principle applies to the N64 stick. If you hold L, R and start, you will make the current position of the analog stick the center.
my bad, didnt realize it worked on both systems. Sounds like a awsome trick.

I think you are referring to the gamecube (since ssbm is on the gamecube), this discussion is about the nintendo64 analog stick

Giga your run is awsome so far, I am happy to hear you are still working on it. If and when you finish this movie it could easliy be star material. Anyways I found a strange trick which allows Forte to levitate across open gaps, it may save some time in the intro stage. Here is a movie: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/380/Rockman%20%26%20Forte%20%28J%29%20%5B%21%5D.smv

the dino tail's strength is determined by ayla's current HP(1) in comparison to her max HP(853?), so the higher her max hp is when she is at 1 hp the more damage the dino tail inflicts. I tested this with and without the silverernge and she did in fact do more damage with the earing equiped. However since it is a physical attack as well, I think you idea about the powerscarf should work too. I will try it next time, thanks for the advice Saturn. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys Saturn; I didnt realize I could enter the giants claw without talking to toma, thanks for pointing that out. Believe it or not the ONLY reason I put Ayla on my team was to use dino tail, In my test runs she was able to do over 2000 damage with the silverernge equiped. For some reason I think she was one level shy of being able to do that much damage and as a result she was comepletely useless during the fight. Next time I will try the powerscarf to see if that works. In this run I put a speed tab on robo because I had a comepletly different strategy in mind when I started the run, however next time I will put the tab on magus to max out his speed. In regard to Bisqwit's question; The reason for not getting the magic tab is that Magus will be using mostly physical attacks during the lavos fight, I use dark mist 9 times and a single magic tab would not make it that much more powerful (most likley wouldnt save a single turn). Plus it would take about 2 seconds to pick up the tab itself. In the next run I may actually pick up some power tabs to boost the power of the doomsickle, for example there are two easy to access power tabs in the giants claw and an another easy tab at the market where I purchased 88 midtonics.

Awsome work Saturn, I actually thought Micheal's run was perfect but you have improved upon it by quite a bit, over one second already. I hope you stay motivated to finish this run, because the existing Super Metroid run looks amazing and this run could better it by several minutes.

Well I finally got around to finishing my movie, it can be found here: http://hstrial-nway1.homestead.com/files/ChronoFinalWip.smv the movie is 4 hours and 42 minutes long (real time, ingame time is much lower), be sure to check all syncronization options in Snes9x before you play the movie. Feedback would be appreciated, because soon I will begin my next and final run through of the game. I estimate that there is ~5 minutes worth of potential optimizations in this movie. I must say the lavos battle came out much better than expected considering how under leveled my characters are. I think the strategy that I used has never even been considered by anyone before; basically I have two dead characters on screen and have Magus own lavos with his doomsickle which does over 1000 damage ever hit and 2000 for critical hits. Not only is this method good for having low level characters, but it is also insanely fast because the animation is quicker than any of his magic techniques. Enjoy the movie
