left + right while facing right and flying allows you to pull up (swoop i guess) while changing your horizontal speed. left + right while facing left and flying puts you into a dive without changing your horizontal speed. when you jump with your p meter full, and then release y/x and b so you start falling back down again without being in flight animation, there is a point where if you press y/x again you gain lots of air like from a dive. at other times you will do a normal swoop, and the rest you will just continue down. fast diving is caused by pressing the diving direction (either left or left+right while facing left (the advantage of left+right being that your horizontal speed does not change), or right while facing right.) on every other frame for at least 3 times (not sure that's enough). originally it was done 5 times to get speed back up to 51, but since we don't have to lose speed while diving left, and we can gain speed while swooping facing right, 5 diving frames are no longer needed, you can go with the minimum to get diving animation whatever that is (3?). sometimes when gaining super air you can press y/x and gain super air again. i have no idea how this works. i think mister has explained it before, but i don't get it. from the first videos: if you are spinning when you want to swoop, you must always press the direction mario is not facing (in normal flight if you are going right, to swoop you press left). since you are spinning his direction changes every 4 frames, so you might end up pressing both left and right (not at the same time) to get a swoop. i think, but am not at all sure, that at whatever frame it is the game decides mario should start swooping you have to be facing the direction you are moving. (not in the video): right after (or during) swooping, there are frames where you can release y/x and still keep flying if you repress it again soon after (say 1 frame). this is useful for kicking things and maintaining flight. there is also a time near the top of a swoop where he changes from going up to going down that you can release y/x (i think?). and yeah, thinking about it some more i'd be pretty surprised if there were more than 3ish frames to save from lahdeedah by getting perfect placement before kicking.

something like this abcde if you can get better flight positions at the end you might be able to get it with no slow down at all. also the way you do it.. you don't have to drop the shell on the ground to be able to grab it while flying, you can do it all in the air. this could still have better placement at the end to open the key sooner, but it's 2 frames faster than abcde above.

In mole ruins 2 you might be able to gain a frame by boosting on the last hammer bros platform. kl1 on the moving platform part with the black moles, when you have to wait for it to catch up, did you try spin jumping off that mole and then landing on the one with the coin blocks hfiguw.? ghz1 don't jump so high at the beginning, get 51 speed sooner. while jumping, release --> to keep your speed at 49 until you start flying. then grab that koopa shell so you can throw it at the key block and the key will be open before you get there. flowerless fort............ that flight is a really easy thing to do. DOTDOTDOT.

It's not needed. If you want to pass time without actually doing anything just chill in #nesvideos and spam .cards and .dice or make a TAS. get 6/5 jump near the top, let go of the shell while your speed is 47 the shell goes a little bit faster than the speed you released it at get up to speed 49* you will catch up with the shell and kick it it is now a flying enemy missle, so you can jump off it jump off it. *you can also do this and keep 6/5 if you need it, instead of getting speed 49, just continue 6/5. you will still catch up with the shell and kick it. and jump off it.

You are probably using the memory watch feature built into the emulator. If you use s9xwatch it is only 1 additional frame (which makes sense).

Can you please explain how you get through corners while flying and jumping etc? Are there certain memory values that you watch or do you just fly at the corner over and over until you get lucky or something else? Also, when you are flying, and then mario goes up way high (I think this happens at or near the highest point of a normal swoop), how do you do that?

I still agree with Xkeeper that we should wait some predetermined amount of time before giving a new run a star. Stars should be rewarded based on how good the run is, not on how excited people are that it's finally out. Or whatever.
