This is false.
he means console loads varying with each other by frames (not console vs tas), unless you have some broken wii or something.

At any rate, this revision with "fixed loads" is still far too inaccurate for me to waste my time messing around with.
Well thank god you aren't because that attitude ain't also 100% properly fixed. There are plenty of others including myself who will one day tas this game. It's only a matter of finding proper time and determination.
well given your attitude at one of the people who know the most about this game (and certainly way more than you) and is experienced with TASing on dolphin ... good luck! EDIT: And one thing to mention. Accusing one of few people who HAS done a few minor TASs of this game (and other games on dolphin) of spewing bullshit, saying he's completely wrong (when you're the wrong who's wrong), and saying that he should stay away from this game is one of the biggest reason that people don't want to work on a metroid prime TAS, because of the attitude of people like you. No wonder people don't want to work on TAS's of this game, given the constant bitching, demands, and when someone DOES want to try something, who has more knowledge of the game, he's shoved away when he brings up a legit concern. Given the general attitude of this thread, even if I were completely capable of TASing, and even if dolphin was perfect, and disregarding how ridiculous it is to optimize this game, I wouldn't get anywhere near it because of these kinds of attitudes.

I don't really see how it'd be much less entertaining to see japanese text; people aren't watching TAS's to read text/plot. If people wanted that, they'd want to watch an LP. I can see people wanting to see what certain badges/attacks did and such, but that's something that can be left in the comments. A TASer told me that using JP for only faster text is generally frowned upon in TASing, but IIRC the text doesn't make much of a difference, and if the lack of post-chapter auto-healing for partners allows for faster strats, than I don't see why not. But again, your TAS, not mine. That's all I have to say about it really; just mostly wondering if partner peril has ever been looked into yet or not.

So did anyone test Rachel's build or not?
Abahbob said he'll test it yesterday. Be patient <_< People will test it whenever they have time to do so, and when people try it, they'll post here

er only partners? I meant you could potentially have mario be in peril, and also yoshi be in peril too, for more offensive power?

I fail to see how a "serious" TAS cannot be made. You just have to use different strategies. How is that different from any other run? All TASes made optimize to run as fast as possible in emulators, DESPITE emulators not being 100% correct. I can apply the same argument here.
Save for the fact that you arbitrarily save several minutes from inaccurate load times, as well as changing room/enemy states because of premature loading, and some impossible OoB tricks because loading times are instant? You seriously fail to realize how much loading times affect prime games. It changes the run completely. Try to learn more about the game before arguing about it? <_<

Wouldn't it technically be faster to do this TAS on japanese, because you can leave your partner at 1hp between chapters? (whereas NTSC heals them) so you can use mega rush p with yoshi, for example? Or has that been looked into?

I like how many people in this thread have no idea what they're talking about with regards to loading times for mp1 (and mp2 i guess) TASing <_< It affects direct gameplay. It's not just WAITING SCREENS and stuff. If you're out of bounds, for example, fastest way is to reach the aether while OoB and get into a room before it's loaded, so it loads around you. This is impossible on emulator. Things like that. I'm sure itspersonnal can explain more since, you know, I'm pretty sure he knows more than 99% of people here about TASing metroid prime <_< Granted, I don't think there'd be a problem with a "TAS for fun" or a "theory TAS" but there will basically never be a serious full-game TAS for this game (or prime 2+3) because of how much loading times affect gameplay, not until dolphin loading times is close to accurate (which isn't gonna be for a long time, if it's gonna happen)

Vykan, I remember seeing sylux's stream controlling enemies that are in the fog in FE8, even if you couldn't see them. Maybe I am remembering wrong, or it might be something only in FE7?
Since you're using Dolphin Wii Save and load a lot when you have done 1-2 rooms check what you've done.
So basically every time I do a room, I should replay the video I've recorded? If so, that would mean I'd have to play the entire video from the very start every time... or can I just do "start recording" and load the save state at the beginning of the room and it'll run fine?

Aight, so I finally got dolphin working on KRtDL and I can finally work on some TAS's. I've been primarily focusing on doing actual speedruns of metroid fusion 100%, and getting back into full speedruns of KRtDL 100% itself (my WR sucks), so there won't be tooooo much TAS activity... But I do want to try out a test TAS (maybe just any% level 1-1) Any tips on TASing for someone new to TASing? How to export a video out of a .dat file? This game is relatively unbroken and simple, and I seriously doubt even TAS skills will introduce really interesting things, but you never know. I'll have to experiment with wing and such a bit...

So the window with the game shows "Frame : #", and I'm assuming that's the frame number the game is currently on. Each single time I do a frame advance, it increments by 2 or 3, rather than 1 frame, and it's very inconsistent about it as well. Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal?

Aight so the error disappeared and it seemed to work so far. Here's what I did: -Delete the sav -Do "Start Recording" off of something with no sav -Tried a few random things -Exitted and saved the .dat -Do "Play Recording" However, the recording played itself on the currently existing sav (instead of something with a new sav) meaning the game was doing weird stuff. Do I have to manually delete the sav every time?

Hm right click the game from what menu? When I'm opening? I don't seen an option to "open save folder" =/ Sorry, I'm really new to using dolphin, haha

Not sure where the save file is...? I know where the save states are, but not the save file... (i deleted the save states, but it seems like the save file is still there)

I got Kirby's return to dreamland working on Dolphin, and I'm trying to get started with very basic TASs of it. So I followed mugg's directions on http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11747 and I export the recording. When I do "Play Recording" I get this warning "Fatal desync. Aborting playback. (Error in PlayWiimote 7 != 4, byte 10.)" Are there any settings I need to figure out? Is there anything I need to adjust for horizontal wiimote inputs? I disabled all GC controllers since that was the problem before, but now this pops up...

Ah, so it it impossible to TAS with wii? or can I just use a controller when the game is paused, frame advance while holding down the button?

Holy crap, I got it working! Just a few quick questions: It's running at like 50% speed. Are there any options I can use to speed it up? Is there also a hotkey for frame advance? I know there are hotkeys for save/load states but not frame advance... And also, the TAS input UI seems to be for gamecube, not for a wiimote... =/ It'd be great if someone can send me a save with a complete file so I can try TASing something simple, like a challenge room =) (I think sending save files are ok?)

Hm under the latest development builds, there're only options for 64-bit and 86-bit dolphin... not 32-bit.

So I decided to try to get back into this again. I redownloaded dolphin, got the two files required for LLE, and basically followed all the directions on http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12484&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I ripped the game again (it's around 4GB; does that sound fishy or ok?) And it says it's running but I only get a black screen. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to put for graphics settings in the URL above because it tells me to go to wiki.dolphin-emu.org to check for KRtDL but obviously it's not there... Also I downloaded dolphin from the link above, not the wiimote fix from this post... though it has options for using the wiimote so it should be fine? Finally, is it a problem if my computer is 32-bit?

I messed with the trick a bit, and I'll record what kind of things you can do in 4-4 with Wing Kirby. But it's surprisingly easy to do on console (just mash 2 while condor heading into a waterfall and you'll fly). Here's what I know: You can basically do whatever you want while in water, as long as you don't take damage. You don't have to continuously flap; you just have to be in "flap-mode". Furthermore, you can dive bomb inside waterfalls. And if you jump-cancel a dive bomb, you go back into "flap-mode," meaning your'e still flying underwater. Now, if you do a dive bomb to fling kirby out of the waterfall... you'll see once I get my video posted. As far as I know, you can only do the wing-swim glitch off of a condor head. I haven't been able to do it out of a combo dive (haven't tested condor dive, but they're basically the same move). Maybe it's possible but frame-perfect (or very hard); after all, it's easy to do the condor head method on console because you can't jump cancel it (thus you can mash 2) unlike condor dive, which are jump-cancellable, and thus you can't mash 2. Metaknight can't condor head, he can only condor dive, but I'd imagine it works the same way. Furthermore, I don't know if Kirby can still ride MK while he condor dives (haven't really tried it); if he can't, then the point is moot. Of course, I haven't tested Metaknight yet, nor have I done extensive testing (only about 10 minutes), so what I said about MK is just theory. I'll post a video of wing-kirby applications for level 4-4, as there are a few cool things you can do on console. I'm sure even cooler things can be done on TAS. Anyways, if I find out that you CAN do the wing-swim glitch out of a combo/condor dive, AND that kirby can continuously ride on MK while he dives, then it can be very useful for water sections in TAS. Of course, assuming you can activate the glitch out of dives, then you'd have to test if it's possible to dive into the TOP of a body of water and activate it... which I don't know about. If it's possible, though, then that'd be HUGE, and would make world 3 so much faster... and would make my life hell for optimizing console any%. And haha, Magtrollor is a better name XD But yeah, for the magolor fight, you can see my ideal console strat here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zVunR-Of2o it's not perfect of course, just because it's so random, but it's very good.

As an update: A while ago, I got a new any% WR (1:40:34): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWw0r79McUI I've been taking a bit of a break from it, but I'll be trying to record it and get a submittable attempt to SDA. I lost over 30 seconds thanks to crappy luck from trollgalor, and after counting my visible mistakes, there were 2 minutes of mistakes (and that's an underestimate). I know that sub 1:39 is possible, and if TAS'd, 1:38 is also definitely possible. Meanwhile, something more potentially TAS-related, during a race against yoshifan, I encountered this glitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkJ2ujhOJG8 I'm not sure what happened. It was completely by accident. It seems like maybe I did a flap following the end of condor head, and it carried me over through the water or something like that. Before I do more serious any% attempts, I'll look into this glitch, but it seems like it's probably something frame-perfect. Probably not that helpful either, as from what I can tell, it only works if you condor head into a body of water from the side, and you only see that in that level (4-3) and dimensional rifts (which in those cases, you can't have wing, and even if metaknight can do it, the camera follows kirby and not metaknight). This is just off the top of my head though. It'll certainly save a bit of time for a TAS.

Nope, settings should be the same. I'll try again sometime soon; been busy trying to beat my WR in this game's any% P
