Holy crap, nice console verification. Looks like Mario found the secret Back Door to Bowser's Castle before SMW even came out! :)

I approve of this TAS, because despite being much longer than the first "total control" hack, its payload is also infinitely more tolerable. It's not as good as the Pi-kémon Yellow, nor as interactive as Super Mario Pong, but the payload is objectively good, because it's mathematical.

Remember that part in the movie where the train pushing the DeLorean had a bunch of stuff in the back of it, because that totally makes a train go faster?

The guy before you on the previous page posted exactly such a video. I guess you didn't see it because it was the previous page.

Holy moly, those were epic reactions, and I loved watching the human players actually play the games you programmed in just to further prove that it's legit. I'm just filled with awe right now at Masterjun's work. It is literally magic.

Holy crap, now I feel sad that I didn't watch AGDQ. Most of the games don't interest me, and I have a lot of stuff on my mind. I absolutely have to see the "console verification" of this TAS, though. Yes vote.

I know this is an old thread, but I'd love to see an optimized TAS of this game. I was watching DJB's playthrough of the game, but he uses the level select code to skip Acts 2 and 3 of Labyrinth Zone because of a certain frustrating jump, and I'd rather see all of the game than just most of it. (Well, I'm fine with skipping parts of the game by zipping through it like in Marble Zone, but not by skipping it through a level select code. I'm weird like that. :) )

Thankd but it is not a hack those levels were in ereader expansion pack nintendo
I know this isn't a hack, and that these levels were designed by Nintendo; I was merely justifying why I believe this TAS is publishable. Sometime, you should make a separate TAS for B Dash de Kakenukero! and the 5 SMB1 remakes. :P

I feel sad that I don't have my NES hooked up with which to end this debate forever by leaving it on for a long long time and getting many random puzzles. However, there are definitely game show freaks out there who play video game adaptations of game shows and develop a "run" where they try to beat the CPU a lot of times in a row. Here's the first episode of one such run: Link to video The first puzzle is row 1001 from the Pastebin, marked with a ! as inaccessible to the emulator. The second is 973, not marked. The third puzzle is 343, not so marked. The fourth puzzle is 812 (!).

I hate short puzzles in normal Wheel of Fortune, but in a TAS, it stands for impressive luck manipulation. Another reason why I could never speedrun something like this is because I'd have to see the entire database of puzzle solutions, which spoils the fun of casual play. Meh vote. Deserves a Vault.

Okay, I have to ask: That screenshot which spells the TASer's name: is that real? If so, I have to know more. o_O; Edit: I downloaded the video and slowed it down a lot in VLC. There doesn't seem to be a frame matching it, and I conclude it's Photoshopped. Boooo. Change the screenshot to something actual! I was genuinely let down that this wasn't a real thing!

I didn't vote no because the game was a port. I voted no because I wasn't entertained while watching the run. (Which might well be partially because I don't like this game/port, but the fact remains I wasn't entertained).
I liked 5-3 in this run, but there is a sense in which I must agree with Mothrayas. You mean you actually have to fight Birdo in 7-2 to get the key, and can't just glitch to that screen? What a horrible remake. :) Voted Meh.

As someone with no emulator, it is so painfully tantalizing to see all these 7-second videos and no complete worlds to gawk at. :)

When you roll a 12, you thus lose $300K on each of the 2, 3, and 11 bets, and gain 30*$300K=$9M from the 12 bet. The net gain would thus be $8.1M, which shouldn't be enough to reach $9,999,999 and win the game. Is the game's implementation of the horn bet wrong by paying 30 to 4 (or 15 to 2) upon your boxcars roll instead of 27 to 4, or am I misunderstanding how casinos work?
The true odds of rolling a 12 are 36:1 35:1. The house pays 30:1. But I do think the game makes an error. It calculates the winnings correctly (30*300,000=9,000,000) but I think it mistakenly returns the entire original bet (1,200,000) instead of 300,000. Thus the player's total money reaches $10,601,000 instead of $9,701,000.
FTFY. But yeah, that's my theory, too. Amazing.

Maybe this is more of a general gambling question than a TAS question, but here goes. You enter Laurel Palace with $101K. You bet $100K on a single roll of 3 (pays 15 to 1), meaning you get your original bet back plus 15 times $100K=$1.5M. Thus, your bankroll becomes $1,601,000. Next, you play $1.2M on a horn bet. From what I understand, this is the same as betting $300K on 2, 3, 11, and 12 at the same time. Edit: And what happens if you bet on a horn bet and roll 3 or 11? Do you get paid 15 to 4, or 12 to 4? If the bet pays 30 to 4 on 2 or 12 (2/36 of the time) and 15 to 4 on 3 or 11 (4/36 of the time), then this bet has no house edge whatsoever. o_O

You only have one life left, and you're playing with Yellow Switch Palace turned on, even though to unlock YSP, you have to complete this level first? Losing four lives and re-playing a level you've already beaten is so sub-optimal that I have no choice but to mock you! *mocks and calls bad names* In all seriousness, once you learn how to use memory watch, the possibilities for precise optimization really open up. :)

Let me say this before someone else says it more rudely: what the HECK is the point of this video? Beating YI1 with 251 seconds left on the clock? The best human speedrunners routinely beat that! According to a wiki devoted to SMW speedrunning, a perfect time for this level with no cape is 260 seconds left! There are no glitches or entertaining things going on here, and whoever made this so-called TAS clearly has a lot to learn about optimization. Thankfully, there are some kind people on this forum who will gladly educate that person. . . I hope. :)

Maybe I'm really unfamiliar with boxing (I hadn't even heard of Riddick Bowe before), but this just looked like an ordinary one-sided boxing match to me. I derived more entertainment from [1118] NES R.B.I. Baseball "playaround" by adelikat in 04:28.79 and [1438] SNES International Superstar Soccer Deluxe "playaround" by Marcokarty in 15:24.38, because while I don't know either of those sports, at least I know that soccer shouldn't defy physics or have a score roll backwards, and that baseball shouldn't have the pitcher pitching from some random spot besides the pitcher's mound. I rated the entertainment value a 5, because it wasn't awful, which I suppose raises the average ranking due to the fact that I don't know how to rate things. :)

Shyft-, no, that's just something I missed. After pouring over this for so long, it's a little embarrassing that I missed something so simple.
I like to imagine that Tas either has an accent that causes "jeopardy" to be spelled "jeapordy", or is so high off of drinking Tina's pills that he can't spell.
