What about Top Gear, which is no more than a glorified WIP, and people clearly haven't enjoyed watching it? For all intents and purposes, I've never been a huge fan of having an entirely static publication system, where one decision is made, and that decision should stay until the end of time. It's because of this mentality that we still have movies like Combatribes and B.O.B. Having an occasional review of the content we provide shouldn't be seen as erasing history, it should be seen as us making an attempt to keep our "product" at as high of a quality as we deem appropriate. Self-inspection is a way to grow, not something to fear.

I agree with Mukki
Delete F-zero and Top Gear. They break the rules, and one is highly boring (3.3 overall rating), while the other is improvable by 1'30" (for a 2' run). OoT, while horribly out-dated and embarrasing, at least completes the game. Since the only true attempts at obsoletion have been just as embarrasing, I suggest retroactively obsoleting it with the "all quests" movie. Overall, I find this too hackish of an idea to have many positive qualities. There are really only 3 movies that people bring up during these conversations, and they've already been mentioned. On the other hand, in a similar way that some rejected grue submissions were revived for a chance at publication this past year, we could do a similar thing for questionable publications: send the discussion thread back to the workbench, reset the poll, and ask people if the movie should remain published. Then the same process is followed, with as much input gathered as possible. Edit: I somewhat misunderstood the purpose of this proposed system, it still is a bit of a hackish way of dealing with the situation, but I can't think of a much better one other than outright deletion.

Silly Nach, everyone knows that to have an ultimate emulator you have to put a big X on the end of it!

Ah hell, I guess I'll get in on the listing for lists sake: tasvideos.org - Duh speeddemosarchive.com - Occasionally, but I don't visit the forums as much... I don't think I'm even registered there. macrumors.com - Because I'm an apple nerd like that afterdawn.com - Also occasionally, but I don't post there either teamcyclops.com/forum/ - Because I just got a DS and cyclo to go with it :D An unnamed mac warez site - I used to visit at least once a day. Then their boards went through PMS and all accounts were lost, as was my post count and all that fun stuff. Now I barely visit once every 3 months. So really, the only forum I actively participate in is this site.

Why would we want a full run of Top Gear when the most interesting track is so boring?
I personally wouldn't, which is why I'm in favor of just removing those two movies for not completing the game, as well as for just being bad.

I agree.

This run completes this same level in just under 25". But unfortunately, no one seems to want to do a full run of this game, which is a shame because both this and the one track run of Top Gear are rather embarrassing. :/ EDIT: It also looks like this glitch would work in every level, which would severely limit the entertainment value of a full run, unfortunately.

Thank you for working on this game, it's probably the most enjoyable watch out of all the remaining 2004 NES games. I look forward to seeing your progress :)

I haven't seen the current any % version of this run, but this one didn't really do it for me. It was pretty slow paced, and the levels only got interesting for the last 1/3 of the movie. Voting meh.

Err, you guys are right, I overlooked that it hadn't been updated. I'll set it to delayed until the last few frames have been whored out. EDIT: adelikat beat me to it with the updated submission.

I haven't been a part of the whole bios conversation, and adelikat appears to have already spoken for this run in terms of judging, so I'll just add in my 2 cents and leave it at that: The first half bored me greatly, the second half was pretty awesome. So I guess that averages out to a meh vote.

I haven't seen this game before, but it looks like they just recycled about 75% of the code for roadrash 2, which isn't really a bad thing, when I think about it. My only request is that you T-Bone a crossing car right before the finish line a couple times, so that your battered body can go flying over the line in style.

Try looking at the first page of this thread. It's kinda confusing.

If I had a crystal ball that could tell the future, I'd be a much richer man. You'll have to just submit it and see what the viewer feedback is, but before that you should post work in progress files for people to review. That way you may get important feedback before you're done with the whole thing. EDIT: Given this quote from your previous submission: "This seems like it's a good game to run (even with a couple boring autoscrollers, like that ship level). However, this run is really unoptimized" I can only say again: Post WIPs. It's hard to make a precise movie the first few times through. Get feedback while you're working on it.

For those viewers who have noticed improvements, could you estimate how much time in total could be saved from improved technique, additional trick inclusion, etc? Redoing a 2 hour movie is no small task...

How could there be more happening here? We have new administration, new emulators, new TASable consoles, a steady stream of new movies, new features like embedded movies... What else can you think of to say that stuff is "happening" here?

I've taken all sorts of tactics: games I've played (Vectorman 1/2, Turok, Sonic Spinball), games that had runs already (2 spider-man games, goof troop), games that only had WIPs (32x spider-man, wolverine, Spider-man 3), and games I knew nothing about before TASing them (Gex, silent scope). By far, the easiest to do, and those that produce the best results, are runs that are made with a published movie or high quality WIP to use as a template.

Nothing wrong with having a little extra set aside for a rainy day, or for upgrades.

Probably once people have stopped posting in this thread, he'll be like "I wonder if they realize now, that if I say I'm going forever it really means forever!" This kind of wondering will eventually cause him to make up an excuse for coming back and prove all of our predictions right. If on the other and he doesn't, we'll forget about them and never realize how wrong we were. :p

I didn't mean to convey that we should modify rankings just to shove more people into it; I fully agree that the highest rank should not be given lightly. At the same time, it is currently occupied by only Randil, which seems odd (and could make it look like that title was given specifically to him). I am also in favor of adopting a more visible separation between staff and contributors, especially since most of the staff do contribute towards the content significantly.

I've been looking at rankings recently, and discovered that "Expert Player" is greatly underused. Even before adelikat and Baxter took on new titles, the category was woefully under-represented, which makes me think that it either needs to be removed entirely, or have the criterion lowered. Currently, the ranking ladder requires an advancement in one level to increase the point total by double, meaning that it takes an increase of 500 points to move from experienced player to skilled player, and 1000 points to move from skilled player to expert player (>2000). Since the site is now being run by a team instead of one person, it's likely that the people who are interested in TASing enough to make ~16-20 movies will also have an interest in helping advance the site in some other capacity, which would (and has) resulted in the loss of any previous title. So, do we do away with the title expert player? Reduce the necessary points to >1500, instead of the current >2000? Do we give subtitles to the admin staff (i.e. Editor/Player, Site manager/Expert Player)? Or something else?

True: I remember something similar as well, it played on my old mac, and I can almost guarantee it was sky shadow. I believe it came bundled in a pack with crystal quest, but I may have just received those games at the same time. Check here for a short movie/series of screenshots: http://www.d4.dion.ne.jp/~motohiko/darwins.htm The one I remember was in color, but it was probably a later version.

Wait, so you intentionally made parts of this run look bad? To make some sort of protest or statement or something? Ok.
