Quoted for reinforcement. Many of the older runs on the site have linked .avi files on archive.org, and it works perfectly, without having to go through the crap that Rapidshare presents with.

Expect to see the completed run in August/September
August has passed, and September is here. Is this on indefinite hold until Mupen Plus, or is progress still being made?

Because it is boring. We try not to have boring runs on this site. Mostly we succeed, and rejecting this was a step in the right direction.
You think its boring, but the majority thinks otherwise.
So if we're going by majority vote nowadays, lets go ahead and just set up an automated system of accepting anything with over 50% yes votes. I'm sure we won't publish a whole bunch of shit that way.

It's interesting that whenever someone doesn't get their way, immaturity sets in and they start bitching about how their opinion was never listened to. I read through this discussion thread just like everyone else, and I understand that some people find this a good movie. But I also understand that nearly 40% of the viewers were either indifferent, or thought that it was horrible in terms of entertainment. So until you become a little less egocentric and start to be able to analyze things from both sides of a situation, I guess I really don't have anything else to say.

Anyone else care to comment on this? My questions have gone unanswered for a week, as has my PM to one of the authors.

I think that expressive movie descriptions, with some humor thrown in are a good thing. However, I don't like sentences which only act to inflate the author's ego, such as "This shows the author controlling two characters, now that's really hard to do!". Thankfully, it seems that those types of descriptions are most common in the older publications here, and are slowly getting weeded out.

If someone can make a speed-based run that doesn't repeat the same 2 or 3 moves (since that has been the main complaint with speed-based runs), it's still a possibility. However, Derakon seems to be pretty on point with his answer.

As with all the other SM runs between you and hero of the day, I'm just going to vote YES so that the judges can collect the info and start trying to publish and encode. Now how's that for emphasis?! >:) I still don't have the right rom's and versions of snes9x to play the input movie, so hopefully a good AVI would show me the way. =)

Amen. And I've never had problems using a console controller for FPSs. I may not be a master-super-1337-awesometastic player, but I hold my own. So, while keyboard/mouse may be moderately better method for some people, controllers are by no means bad.

The problem with Nintendo is that they aim for babies as their target audience. Especially the Gamecube. I mean, who still wants to play with cubes when they're 20?
In case you haven't noticed, people continue to be born. Which means that there will always be a younger demographic to cater to.

I never needed to know the color of Inspector Gadget's underwear. The run was neat though.

I liked it. It had army men, mutants, robots, bad-ass biker dudes, cyborgs, midget Vega, a pimp with a white suit and purple hat, and best of all, ninjas with boobies! I am a little confused with your movements sometimes though. In the first couple of levels, you simply walk to the right when there aren't any enemies and the screen scrolls, but in level 5 (the one right after the pimp), you backflip to move to the right. Is there one that's faster than the other, or does it not matter? Also, I didn't bother to check, but is there a 2 player co-op mode? Anyway, yes vote (assuming of course that there is no 2 player option).

I just realized that Lord Tom's suggestion would leave roughly 90% of the TASvideos population without a rank, since they don't have a published movie. And because of perceived problems with the rating system, I think that variable could be replaced by one referencing forum posts. So:
Lord Tom wrote:
Thus (for example): # of movies currently published: 1-3: Contributing 4-6: Active 7-9: Workhorse 10-15: Prolific 16+: Super-Prolific
0 movies published: Watching # of forum posts: 0-10: Newbie 11-50: Talker 51-250: xxxx 250-1000: xxxx 1001- : xxxx Couldn't think up any good names for the xxxx's since it's late, but you get the idea. EDIT: I also just realized that this is a slightly more detailed version of what we already have. Time to get some sleep, I guess :P

There's a lot I like about Baxter's idea, but share Bisqwit's reluctance to distill players down to a single 'score.' My idea for player ranks is separately assign keywords for number and quality of movies made, and combine then to construct a rank. Thus (for example): # of movies currently published: 1-3: Contributing 4-6: Active 7-9: Workhorse 10-15: Prolific 16+: Super-Prolific Average (or median) rating of all published movies: <6.0: Dilettante 6.01-7.0: Achiever 7.01-8.0: Afficionado 8.01+: Superstar
I like this idea a lot; it looks like a simplified (and much, much cleaner) version of what I suggested a year and a half ago on the previous page. [EDIT]: I'm unsure if using movie rankings are the best variable to use, There has been a lot of (justifiable) complaints about them being biased.[/EDIT] However, I still think this:

It helps provide a little distinction to the people who keep this site running and looking good. (Note that I suggested this before I was either an editor or judge)

A lot of people, despite what they are supposed to do, will look at publication of a run as the ultimate goal, not the enjoyment of the creation process or the knowledge that some people, somewhere will enjoy it.
Then we should give those people the artificial incentive of making their work of art relatively available on this revered collection of tool-assisted movies (not in the reject pile). "Available" is a weaker term than the revered "Published" -- I would like a smaller, refined section of the current publications to be the most public face of the site, and devote the rest to all these good movies that will be enjoyed by people, but not by everyone.
I know your position on this. But start bugging Bisqwit about it if you really want to make a permanent change; no one else has any sort of control over it.

Got it all worked out. At the end of World 1, I am: * 8 Frames ahead * Have 100 more points * And have 4 more coins (cuz Mario gots to have some cash to pay for his ho, once he gets to her). This won't be a very noticeable improvement (other than obvious stylistic changes), but that's what frame wars are for, I guess.
