The first 5 minutes were entertaining for me due to the novelty of the game, but absolutely nothing changed in the last 13 minutes. I counted exactly twice that you had to move left on the screen, and other than a few moments of interesting platforming, this boiled down to a "hold right and jump" game, with the same boss repeated 10 or so times. A dog that throws bombs sounds interesting, but this run is just too slow and monotonous. Voting no.

How do you think a regular helicopter is able to move forwards, backwards, sideways and even up and down? (Mind you, the rotation speed of the rotors is always the same.)
Magic.

Excellent and unexpected run guys, and congratulations on a great first submission! I enjoyed it and it's very interesting that both the regular and DX runs have two separate glitches to get to the end boss quickly. I guess I vote for this game to have another category, although it seems weird to have two warped glitch runs. I'll just say yes and let someone else figure out all the hard stuff.

Some select quotes regarding this movie: [22:28] <mmbossman> hahaha the main character just caught mini me [22:29] <mmbossman> HOLY SHIT Dinosaur bones! [22:29] <mmbossman> AND underpants gnomes! [22:31] <mmbossman> the tree just turned into a bone-able chick [22:31] <adelikat> o_o [22:31] <mmbossman> oh WTF! she just ran off with some dude, who didn't just change her from a tree into a babe It looks like a game I may have had fun playing 20 years ago, but it's just not suited for a TAS. The menus are unbearably slow at times, and since they constitute 50% of the movie, it'd take something pretty impressive in the other 50% to redeem the movie. Unfortunately, the other 50% is slow walking :( It looks like you did a good job with the route planning and all, but even kicking Bigfoot's ass with a custard pie wasn't entertaining enough. Voting no.

Frame advance is the "\" button for FCEU. Learn to use it, love it, and treasure it. This movie will not be of publishable quality until you do the whole thing through in frame advance, and then probably do it again to shave off some more.

That's usually how I work with it. If it's someone I'll be seeing regularly, and that person is not in a position of power (ie boss, Senator, dominatrix, etc), I'll flat out ask them if they prefer to be called by their first name or by Mr(s). Smith. To address Warps assertion that you should use the name of the other party regularly in conversation, I personally have never felt comfortable doing it, and I also have very rarely had it done to me. As long as you are directing some sort of question or statement directly towards the other party, and it's obvious that's who you're talking to, no name is needed. If you're being ambiguous about who you're addressing, use the name a couple times to be safe. As for tipping, it's a hotly debated issue here too. Generally, if it's a restaurant where you are served your food (by a waiter/waitress), tipping 10% is pretty cheap (poor college kid status), 15% is standard, 20% is generous. Fast food doesn't qualify as sit down dinners. Room service usually gets about 5%, delivery (ie pizza) is kinda a toss-up. If you had specific questions about when and where it may or may not be appropriate to tip, I could try to help you out. Of course, all of this is dependent on the service you receive. Many food-service people make minimum wage, and their wages are subsidized by tips. But if they do a shitty job, they deserve minimum wage IMO. Oh and although I've never been to NYC, I can assume it's a little like Philly in that many people are busy. And because they're busy, they may be blunt, or sometimes downright rude (most often though, they don't mean to be). However, if you run into an asshole, I apologize for Americans in general. We're really not that bad most of the time.

I agree that OoT isn't really a speed running game. Either it's too long when you play everything, or it's too dull when too much is skipped. I suppose the main problem I had with this run was that with this route, there are only a couple of really cool tricks. The dungeons provide all sorts of other awesome tricks that are left out in this. I find in some cases that a longer run is better since there can be more tricks to show off and be impressed by. With a short run that skips everything, there's not a whole lot that can impress people. There is the wow factor of skipping something crucial like the door of time, but there are some other hard to do, non crucial things that can be equally impressive when skipped.
Ironically, the only OoT run in the works is a 100% gems/trials run that Bloobiblah is working on, which he doesn't intend to submit. It sounds like you might enjoy that one more (it still skips a fair amount of stuff, AFAIK).

Ok, after some careful consideration (and I really mean that), I vote yes for an obsoletion. My reasons: 1) To a non-OoT nerd (such as myself), there weren't any large, punch in the face errors. I could tell that there were some small optimization problems, but there wasn't anything that absolutely made me cringe. 2) To anyone on the internet who has happened to hear that the Temple of Time can be skipped, our currently published run immediately becomes laughable for how long it is. To anyone a little more informed (but still below OoT guru), it has been outdated for even longer than that. The longer the current OoT run remains published, the bigger of an embarrassment it becomes to the site in whole. 3) There is no planned update immediately in the works. There is always a run coming "sometime", but I have yet to see that day, and doubt that it will come in the very near future (by the end of 2008). If MupenPlus was a) functional and b) accepted on the site, I'd probably say we could wait a little more. But as it sits right now, I don't even consider there to be another run in the works. 4) To those complaining about lack of optimization, I can only point out that even if a new movie could cut off 12 minutes from this submission, this movie improves the published movie by 10 times that amount! And when it comes to improvements on publications, an hour and twenty minutes is far from a inconsequential amount. I do, however, share in the feeling that I'm disappointed in the runner for submitting something that he knows has major mistakes. To me, it shows lack of pride in his work (although pride is disdainful around here, I've heard). In any case, I refuse to let my desire for perfection be projected onto someone who may not share the same goals, especially for an improvement this large. **Major credz to adelikat for arguing back and forth with me about this on IRC, and for coming up with some of these reasons.**

Good job on improving a really old movie, dragonxyk! Since Randil's WIP has some different techniques that save some time, will you be starting an improved run soon, or will you just stick with this submission? I have a hard time voting yes to a movie with some known improvements, but the previous movie is over 3 years old, and it looks like an incredibly difficult game to play, and certainly a tough one to TAS too. In any case, I think you did a good job and small improvements be damned, I vote yes.

What? I posed an argument against yours that is a very valid point. How is that attacking you AKA? Using a similar example to yours, if I were to say that Megaman 1 should be obsoleted by Megaman 6 because they use different glitches, that would be ok with you? I mean, they're really just the same game with a different name, right? EDIT:

This is the problem I have with Game A obsoleting Game B. What constitutes a "family" of games? I'm not pushing for an any%, and glitched any%, and a 100% category for every pokemon game around, but I think it causes more problems to have green obsolete yellow, which can obsolete blue, which can obsolete red. Those types of decisions are arbitrary and lead to problems in the future.

I would also say it was an arbitary decision to keep the Green run as well, and will once again build up problems in the future. Creating either impossible or very difficult situations and will likely just enforce the hypocrisy on this site.
I find it more arbitrary that some Pokemon games have been obsoleted by entirely different Pokemon games. Saying that one game (that uses one glitch) should be obsoleted by another game (that uses a completely different glitch) only adds to the supposed hypocrisy you speak of. IMO.

GoodGen 3.00 shows Langrisser II (J) (REV00) [!], Langrisser II (J) (REV01), and Langrisser II (J) (REV02) [!]... so if you don't have a perfect version, you're not looking very hard, it seems.

I have never been to NYC, and I know that baseball is far from a popular sport in Europe (although it has caught on well in some Asian countries), but for a true slice of American history I would suggest you try to take in a New York Yankee's game in their very historic ballpark. It has been in use since 1923 and this year is the last it is expected to be in use. As much as I dislike the Yankees, I would never pass up a chance to visit it, as it is a true piece of Americana.

I can understand making a thread about a game you're thinking about working with. I can even understand making a thread about a game you'd like to see done (although I don't usually like when it happens). But I cannot understand why you continue to create new threads about games that you know won't make a good TAS! If you know a game isn't a good choice, why do you continue to pollute the forums so often with so many of these types of threads?

I also think that the BLJ is fun to watch and speeds up the runs, but the main complaint I've seen here is that "everyone" now hates the 0 star run because it skips everything (thats the point, ldo), and 120 stars takes too long. I'm not arguing that a 70 star/no BLJ run should be made. I'm arguing that it makes a lot more sense than trying to come up with some sort of non-arbitrary rules for a new 16 star run. 16 stars was a necessary evil; there's nothing special about that number. If someone can come up with a logical and well definable objective for a 30 or 40 star run, I'm all for it. But as it sits, it's easy to define a BLJ, which means it's an objective goal to restrict it's use. Without a BLJ, the least amount of stars you can collect to still complete the game is 70. So that's the best alternative I can think of for those in want of a new SM64 run (still not saying it should or shouldn't be made).

Maybe people would be more excited about a 70 star run if the proposed restriction was no BLJ in the castle, but you are free to BLJ in the levels all that you want. Or maybe make it simpler and say that you can't do a BLJ past any doors that have a star requirement or BLJ up the endless staircase. actually, that would be harder to define... That may make it obvious that you could do a BLJ through those doors if you do other BLJ's in the levels, but I would think that several levels would become dull if you can't BLJ in them at all. Jolly Roger Bay comes to mind in this case... swimming across the bay would not be as fun as seeing Mario do a BLJ off the cannon, flying over half of the bay.
With a no BLJ restriction, there would be very little reason to even enter JRB at all since you wouldn't be able to glitch through the door. So you take out all the swimming except for Board Bowser's Sub, which I think would produce a fun and fast run that has a minimal of slowdown (the swimming levels always sucked to watch anyway [except with the new work on the 120 run]).
