Thanks a ton everyone. It's interesting how different everyone thinks about these games, and why they are liked or not. I think this list is the first where I've seen two people vote for X-2 as a favorite, which makes me happy because it'll be the next one I pick up after X. As for VII, I'm making good progress and liking it more now that I have a much better understanding of the materia (I also like the cross-over of the summonings/aeon names between VII and X)

Thanks for all the suggestions superjupi (and everyone else so far), I'll certainly keep the suggestions for Origins and VI in mind. I now have a dedicated folder for all of the games listed so far, thanks everyone for your help, keep 'em coming if you wish.

I know a lot of game have been ported/revamped for the GBA, with new stuff (dungeons, espers) for a couple of the earlier FF games (I think 4, 5, and 6). If anyone has played both, does this new content add or subtract from the original in terms of quality and enjoyability?

I had a sheltered childhood in terms of quality RPG playing, since I owned a gameboy, genesis, and N64. In fact, the only RPG I had played before 2007 was Chrono Trigger, which I enjoy immensely. But now that I have a PS2 (I know, I know, the bleeding edge of technology on a grad school students budget), I've started playing FFX and have really been enjoying it. So this got me to thinking: With a huge back catalog of RPGs at my disposal thanks to the wonders of the internet, which ones should I look into playing? A top three list of the best FF games for anything PS2 or less would be very helpful for me to figure out which ones I desperately need to play, and the ones I can skip over. And if you're not a fan of the FF series, feel free to list off your top RPGs in general, and let me know how I'll be spending all my free time from now until 2010 (along with TASing, of course). EDIT: I have also started playing FFVII via emulator, but seeing as most of the time on my laptop is spent TASing, I haven't gotten too far (just to the dressing up as a SOLDIER guard and marching stuff).

Those sites are only good for something when there's a file you cannot get any other way. With two valid and usable methods of distribution (three if you count actually watching the run on an emulator), these would add nothing but hassle, especially when the download links expire in a f***ing month.

I think something we can all agree on is the excellent versatility of the automated screenshots chosen for this run. Methinks there's a desync.

Excellent work, very entertaining, even with the constant back-flipping. Yes vote from me.

I enjoyed every single one of his runs, so I have to vote Upthorn for this.

I vote for the only run where the camera can't keep up, although HoD is a close second.

Is Rookie based on date of joining the site, or date of first publication? If it's the date of first publication, I guess I could have been on the list (not saying I should have been though, just an observation). In any case, Mr. Corrugated gets yet another vote tacked on from me.

JXQ. 100% SM continues to entertain me whenever I watch it.

Due to the number of runs, versatility on all platforms, and the overall quality of his work, I vote adelikat. Not to mention all the work he does with judging and publishing; if it weren't for him, the submission queue would be 4 pages long.

Most irritating everyday occurrence: Luck manipulation Most irritating once in a while occurrence: Finding a slightly faster method for level 1 or 2 when you're on level 13 of a hex-unfriendly game.

This one is so tough I can't even vote. ABAHB is awesome, S3&K is awesome, as are the MK run and Rockman. Guess it has to be Sonic.

What in the world am I even doing on this list? And someone even voted for me?... Even weirder. Anyway, even though it nearly gave me a seizure, the quad run gets my vote. Although AKA makes somewhat of a good point, I believe it is indeed different enough, with enough new techniques, to be considered truly innovative.

S3&K, Gunstar Heroes, Rocket Knight Adventures... I owned all three, so this is kinda like asking me which of my three children I love the most (if I had any kids, that is). I have to give this one to RKA, although on another day I might have easily chosen either of the other two.

I for one liked Mortal Kombat, although Altered Beast is pretty good too.

Ok, since this was bumped into the express lane to accepted land, here's the easter eggs I threw in. They may not be perfect, but hey, what is? They're in white, just in case someone doesn't want to know;) 1-3: “TAS” spelled out (T & S at the same time, A in the middle) 2-1: “JXQ=TAS!” Some of the letters overlap due to lack of space, but it is there 2-3: Game of billiards to pass the time Bonus 1: 8 crotch shots followed by the word “OW” spelled out 4-1: Two “Z”s, followed by “GO”, because I was bored 4-2: The last enemy is killed by invisible shots ;) 5-2: The horses can’t be killed, but I shoot at some of them to piss of PETA 5-3: Smiley face! 5-4: “BOSS” spelled out 5-5: “#2” spelled out 6-2: Moonwalking x 2 EDIT: Awwww yeah

The messages are pretty tough to pick out the first time through, and it's hard to sometimes figure out where one letter ends, and another one begins, along with what is necessary cursor movement and what's entertainment based. I figured I would wait one or two weeks, then update the submission text and provide a new post with all of the different things I threw in there, just so people can be on the look out for them. If there was a way to make the cursor a different color on command they would have shown up easier. In any case, they're there, and I'll clue everyone in soon. As for famtasia runs, there's only 8 left, and none particularly interest me. Bubble bobble would be ok, but it would probably end up being very close to the same movie, Bisqwit is working on a computer program for Solomon's Key, and the Dracula game might be good, except I know nothing about it and can't speak Japanese (not a huge issue, I know, but still a unmotivating one). Strangely, other than the regular GB and SMS, the NES is the only platform I haven't at least started a run on, even though it has the most published runs here by far. Maybe Metriod, if the TASing gods shine on me...

Very nearly done with this, I just have two sub-levels and the final boss left to go. I plan on banging it out tomorrow, if all goes according to plan, so expect it pretty soon:)

The Sega Genesis port is considered by some to be one of the hardest video games of all time. This is due to a sloppy conversion; the original had a 50Hz refresh rate, but all Sega Genesis games had to have a 60Hz refresh rate due to being made for NTSC televisions. Accordingly, the conversion team increased the refresh rate to 60Hz, but did not change the amount of time each frame remained on screen, making it run 16.7% faster than the original
A game which runs faster than is meant to be? Excellent material for a TAS.
