There are a ton of games without any world records, and yet when the get run they are still scrutinized here. True, having more people working to make a certain aspect of a game as fast as possible will probably lead to more techniques, but this site does not exist simply to beat WRs. It is here to entertain. However if you are interested in making a run that is as fast as possible, and you have all the best tools available to assist you, why would you accept a run which is known to be slower than something done by a person without tools? As for your casual viewer point, there' already one run of the game, so a casual viewer may not know the difference at all.

SO what will happen to that run when the TAS time is beaten? It'll still be published but against the rules.
We make runs to the best of our abilities at the time. If a new unassisted WR beats a published movie, we simply wait for someone to take the time to do another TAS that beats (or matches) the new WR. See the full run of Chrono Trigger for a perfect example of this.

Uh oh, spaghettios! This run desynchs at the ladder climbing on the rom
Ninja Gaiden (E) [!].sms
But works flawlessly on the rom
Ninja Gaiden (Prototype) [!].sms
Both using the newly updated GoodSMS3.13 as a reference. Since I've never seem another rom with "prototype" before, I'm not sure what significance it has in terms of quality, or whether it was actually ever produced commercially. It's certainly something to wonder about. As for the run itself, you're right about the boss being kinda slow, if bombs work better, I'd suggest saving them instead of using them on the slow enemies. Other than that, it looked like it's typical Adelikat play:)

There have only been a few couple of instances where overdumps or bad dumps have been accepted, and since you're just starting off with it, I'd suggest finding a good dump of the U version. I know if you look hard enough you'll probably find it.

I concur. A gold internet. However, if they keep posting (and God knows of course 3 and 4 will), can integrity become a negative value?

From what I remember the spider boss in the ice world wouldn't emulate properly. I may have misremembered why you dropped it though;)

I'm sorry, I just started laughing and now I can't stop. So if science can build a good enough microscope to prove that matter doesn't actually exist, what is the microscope made out of? Really, I'm actually laughing. Although I may not be able to actually hear myself because sound and I are two different materials, and my ears aren't actually made up of anything. I'm now convinced this is the best and most elaborate level that has ever been accomplished in the history of leveling. I've officially stopped reading this thread to avoid losing what brain cells I have left.

Check the upper left corner of your screen again Mr. Collins. You got the TA part right, but the S (at least according to the front page link) is superplay. Although...... the front page does say speedrun

I'm also appreciative, and may have put it to use with my Sonic Spinball run since there's a lot of dead time in that. I may play around with it sometime soon just to see, but in any case, THANKS JXQ!

I think this would make a nice run to add to our under appreciated gameboy section. The downward swimming looked somehow inoptimal, but I have no proof of this, and no suggestions on how to improve it... it just looks kinda slow. Other than that, I think you did a fine job. Since you are new to the whole TASing thing I have a few comments to hopefully help you along: First, although I didn't feel this run suffered from it as much as other games could, the amount of autoscrolling levels is rather high, which usually leads to boring to watch levels. You did a good job with the Porky level, but I think you might have been able to work with the road runner level a little bit and maybe get him to dance to the music or something. Just a thought, overall the stylistic choices were pretty good, and the Taz level only started to get extremely dull the last 30 seconds, which I would say is a pretty good accomplishment for a level as boring as that one. Second, a game this "simple" (and I mean simple in that it's for the gameboy, and probably has very little, if any RNGs or multiple boss patterns) really should be worked with until you have accomplished all levels at least as fast as your previous attempts. You say you lost some frames in the road runner stage which probably shouldn't have happened due to the simple AI. If you were able to do a level in a certain number of frames before, I almost guarantee you should be able to achieve that time again. It's not a super big deal for right now with this run, but something to keep in the front of you mind from here on out. Anyway, like I said, I liked it, and it had a surprising amount of variety for a gameboy game, which helped a lot. I give it a solid yes for a good first *third* attempt.

I think I have now seen at least one movie for all the GBA Castlevania games, and I give this one a yes also. I'm rather split on the hard vs. normal issue though. I think I would have preferred having longer bosses as opposed to mountains of text, but I also like the idea of starting with a clean SRAM more. Eh, guess we'll cross that bridge if it comes. I was also very entertained that from frame 30,000 onward you seemed to be killing everyone with a giant crayon. :-D

The comparisons between this game and RCR are inevitable, so I might as well start them off. If this game had objects to throw at enemies and more things to bounce enemies off of, I think it actually could have made an entertaining movie. Unfortunately, for me it was like watching the same fight being repeated 20 times. I didn't see very much variability in the style or technique, and overall it just wasn't very entertaining. I did like the level with the river/waterfall, which for some reason was the only level not repeated 3 times. Sorry, I'm voting no.

Since the last time any serious look at the emulation of this game was at least a year ago, I was curious if any of the newer plugins that have come along can fix the boss battle that caused BoMF to drop this run? I watched it again recently, was re-entertained, and figured I'd at least ask in hopes of seeing a completed run someday.

In reference to your first post, I keep getting a "Your saved data is corrupted" message. In reference to your second post, there's a Mario 64 topic for a reason.

I was just curious because I don't want to start a run someone else is doing, but if you lose interest I'll probably pick it up at some point in the near future.

Very well done, and quite entertaining. Although he only knew about 2 dance moves, that white boy can sure boogie. Definite yes.

Well your understanding of physics is more than likely greater than mine Warp, so I'll take your word for it. I guess I never really saw inertia and acceleration as connected before.
