I guess since Randil is going to make the revisions to his version (with help from me whenever he wants it), I may as well show my run off. Like I said, it was only intended to be a rough draft, so it's not optimal (duh). And I may be biased, but I do kind of like my "idle acting" more in some parts, so maybe they'll get included. Especially finding out Goofy has an alternative lifestyle about a 45 seconds into the movie;) My slow version

I would venture a guess of anywhere from 2-5 seconds, depending on where the damage was taken. Two spots stick out in my mind, one in level 4 about half way through, and one in level 5, near the very beginning. But Randil did an excellent job of enemy manipulation in a couple of the other rooms that I took damage in, making it not necessary. It doesn't play a very large part in this game, other than a couple places where maneuvering around the enemies is impossible.

You wouldn't believe this, but I've been working on this game for the past month also, and for the most part, your run puts my run to shame (however in my defense, mine was going to be a first draft, and it was damage taking, which allows for some slightly faster methods for a copule rooms). Despite that, I've found a couple solutions in my run that are faster than yours so far, and I haven't looked at some of the more questionable ones. One room is improvable by at least 333 frames, and the other is improvable by at least 63 frames, so I have to vote no. I can't really describe them here, but PM me and I'll send you my movie file. Unfortunately this game has been a pain in the ass for me to hex edit, so I hope you don't have to do too much of it over (or maybe I could help out, if you'd want the help). Oh, and before I sound like an ass, I was amazed at how much you manipulated the skeletons, that was incredible. EDIT: Just did some more testing, and I've found 5 more rooms where my run was faster for a total of 154 frames faster (although a couple of them rely a little bit on enemy manipulation).

Yeah, this annoys me a lot too. If the Bible is the word of God and must be obeyded, why don't I see slaughtered goats at churches etc.? If you're going to say that the Bible is the absolute truth, you should then really obey it entirely, not just the fun and shiny parts. If God knew that society would develop beyond slaughtering animals and wanted the salughtering to stop when human socities evolved, don't you think he would have mentioned it in the Bible? So, my point is: if it's God's will, why don't people slaughter animals anymore? Isn't that sinning and doesn't that warrant a place in damnation? What makes some aspects of the Bible ignorable and others not?
I believe most modern Christianity believes that the reason Jesus came and died/ rose again was so save us from having to try and all those weird old testament laws. But I'm not theologian, so that's just what I remember from Lutheran school and church when my mom made me go as a kid.

Fabian; Now that it has been roughly 40 days since the beginning of this thread, has your opinion changed at all about the quality of posts recently? Would you say this (or any other thread) improved the quality of the site like you had hoped?

I think the system works fairly well right now. Instinctively, the well known games are the games that will (usually) have the most competition to create the perfect run, thus creating more entertaining movies. So, starred runs should mostly be games that are A) Entertaining and B) Games people know well, with other lesser known games with well done movies thrown in for variety. The only one I don't think belongs on the list is Umihara Kawase because A) I (and some others) don't find it very entertaining (despite the fun physics tricks) and B) It's fairly unknown to most players. But all in all I think there are things on this site that could stand to be worked on much more than what receives a star and what doesn't.

According to GoodGens, the only ones around for genesis are REV01, however there is an (E) version available for the SNES version. I don't know if it's an '88 version or a '93 version though.

As I wrote in the N64 forum, a great yes from me. The longer levels made the wait times much less annoying, and the competitions were alright (although I do agree that the up and down in the halfpipe got a little bit old). I kinda wish I had seen some actual grinds more often, not just a lot of "kissed the rail", but that's just me, since I love to string out massive grinds in all the THPS games. Anyway, well done, very enjoyable, and a big yes.

Short run= Fun. Half that run fighting the same 2 monsters= not so fun. It's broken, which is pretty interesting, but the rest of it lost my attention. I give it a meh.

I apologize, I misunderstood. I thought you were comparing speedruns to TASes, not your longplay movie to speedruns.

In Gens, there's a menu option named "Tools", under that is RAM search and RAM watch. Check out the Gens part of this forum to get some helpful hints. One last thing I noticed that I forgot to mention was the "wobbling" that you did during the waiting periods. Some people don't mind it, some people hate it, but I think most people think that if there's something you could do during that dead time that is more imaginative, you should do it. Just be creative:) And good luck, the first run you do is always the hardest (in terms of learning curve, at least).

Just watched it, a few notes: 1. Nowadays it's generally accepted (at least from my experience) that spamming the start button at the beginning of the movie is highly correlated to a not as polished run. The reason for this is because it is possible to find the first frame to press start in order to skip cutscenes, etc, and by simply having start on autofire, it shows you're not using frame advance, which greatly helps refine your accuracy and polish your run. I assume you're making this movie like many novices start out (as did I), on 5% speed or something like that. Best piece of advice I ever received was to use frame advance. You'll thank me later. 2. 4 rerecords? I am totally assuming that it's an error and the real number is much higher. 3. You'll end up with a very boring movie too many levels in the game mimic level 1. Boosting upwards may be the path of least resistance, but it got old pretty quick, not to mention there's a very noticeable speed drop between boosts. I don't know if the physics behind this game are the same as RKA, but if they are, read up in that thread about bunny-hopping and other ways to preserve speed that are both more interesting and more efficient. 4. See if different attacks do different amounts of damage by using a RAM watcher (GENS has a decent one built in). I'm not sure, but I'd guess the spinning that you use on the first level bosses isn't quite as strong as the boost dagger that's used on the switches in level 2. I think that's enough to get you started, let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to keep this thread in the back of my mind.

Haha... yeah I guess so, huh? oh you have no idea. :(
It is best to not insult those whom you are asking for favors, Monty. Perfection is taken extremely seriously here, and, I would daresay more so than normal speedruns.

I got this tool to work once w/ a game I'm working on, for two addresses, but now when I try it, nothing works. I'm not very versed in programming language (probably like a few others), so a more user friendly version would be a great thing to think about for the future. EDIT: NVM, I never actually got it to work, I was looking at SNES9X's built in watcher.

I watched this last week, and forgot to vote. This is one of the prettier games I've never seen or heard about, and I was mostly entertained, although I do agree w/ Moozooh about his speed being (at times) pathetic. And the stopping after dashing w/ the gray form (whichever crest that requires), gets annoying. However, it still gets a pretty solid yes for me.

This was one of the first games for the original gameboy (yes, the original grey brick one), that I owned. Glad to see it demolished further.

If Bisqwit lived in America, the correct answer would most likely be "You have an 80% chance of being obese (since you live in America), so take the extra few steps since a little extra energy expenditure would do you good". I don't know enough about Finland to know if this response would be appropriate there :\

This is actually the only run I've kept on my hard drive that hasn't been published, and I still watch it from time to time.

Same for me, desynchs on Jafar. Although I did enjoy your attempts to synch the carpet movements with the music, if Dwedit is right and that level can be skipped, I think it would make the run more fluid (not to mention, hopefully faster). I'll wait to vote until the movie file is updated. Edit: just saw your post, and assuming Jafar is the last boss, it shouldn't take very much effort to just redo the last 15 seconds of the run to make it sync up with the newest version of Gens. I know it's a pain, but it's good that it did it at the end boss instead of the first one!
