Oh yeah, I agree with you. If it's entertaining, I'm happy. I was just giving the reasons that SDA will likely not start accepting input files any time soon.

On a side note, I REALLY hope SDA will open their arms to replay input files someday. There's gotta be a way to verify legitimacy with some emu tools.
Not really. Information regarding rerecord data is easily changed via hex-editor, so unless a speed-runner took uninterrupted video of the actual run being played, with the screen and controller in view at all times, it'd be impossible to verify whether things like slowdown, frame-advance, or savestates were used.

uses a European ROM without a reason for it
By the way, I forget now why the U version is preferred over the E version of games, unless there's a good reason to use the E version. The rules don't seem to state what the rationale is.
Primarily it is one of consistency. Previously, the rules were "whichever ROM is better" (or something equally nebulous), which led to a lot of arguing, etc. (in case you don't remember, reference the JXQ et al. vs. Phil RE: Bionic Commando). In general, it's easier to have a preferred region choice for a ROM, and have the author present reasons why a (J) or (E) should be accepted over the (U) version. The (U) version was chose to be the default in that most of the community reads English as a primary language (ruling out J), and NTSC is preferred over PAL (ruling out E).

I really think the screenshot should be of that level transition screen with the leather-bound S&M dude. Just because. As for the run, it was a bit repetitive because of the glitch, but it's not like pit-fighter had a ton of variety to begin with. And at least there were elbows to the crotch.

Now, how to practically implement this.. I think the government should subsidize (hope this is the right word) certain foods, to make them cheaper to buy.
I can foresee a lot of difficulty with defining which foods to subsidize, particularly due to the amount of processing that is possible with raw foods (i.e. an ear of corn being define as healthy vs. high fructose corn syrup being unhealthy). Ironically, raw and/or fresh food is already cheaper than processed food almost everywhere, because of the incurred costs inherent to every step of processing. The more hands a food product has to go through before it reaches the consumer, the more that product costs. So encouraging people to buy bulk raw ingredient should be incredibly easy from a cost standpoint. I think the problem occurs due to the time commitment of cooking, and the lack of knowledge about how to cook properly, tastefully, and healthily. For instance, making a piece of fried chicken at home, when you know how to do it, will be cheaper, more flavorful, and healthier than buying it at a fast food chain (most people are unaware that fried foods are not particularly unhealthy when done properly; very little oil gets absorbed unless the water content of the food drops below a certain level). However, this does take time for preparation, cooking, and clean-up. With the busy lives most American's lead, I really believe that lack of convenience is probably the biggest hurdle to overcome, even if you educate people and make it cheaper.

Didn't we just go through all the movies about 9 months ago to pare down the amount of categories, so that searches wouldn't return one or two entries? Or do you mean something different?

I vote no.
I vote for codeportalofsymbolicpixelgoroundxrainred to stop and think before posting, especially since JXQ hasn't shown any interest in TASing for the past 2 years.

Thanks finalserafin! I haven't updated my copy of SNES9x for quite some time, it appears. I'll check to see if it syncs with an updated emulator when I get home. And thanks to the author for updating his submission text with some more information, it's very helpful.

A TAS of a hack has to be quality in two areas: The run, and the hack. This is clearly a well-done TAS, but to a casual viewer, the hack wasn't great. It wasn't bad by any means either, but I was put-off by the constant back-tracking and the somewhat amateurish looking room set-up. I'd like to see if a few more people have comments on this run before making any sort of decision on it. EDIT: Overall, I give it a meh

Before this can be accepted for publication, I'm going to need this section to be elaborated on. U version is preferred over JPN unless there's a good reason. What's the reason?
I'll just bump this for the sake of reiterating: We need some more information regarding this run and the SaGa 3 submission. I'm going to send a PM to the author to see if we can't get this resolved.

I still cannot get this to sync. I have tried downloading the .smv again, and tried both 1.0 and 1.1 of the ROM. And with umpteen million versions of SNES9x, I'm not about to try and hunt down the exact version that the author used, since he's been missing in action since submitting. I'm setting this to "Needs more info" for the time being.

Could you post a picture of a ferret seriously injuring a cat? I would cast a strong yes vote in favor of that.

I vote "weak no" as a sign of protest to Ferret Warlord's picture, as it is not a picture of a serious ferret.

I moved all the posts regarding low-glitch runs to this thread, please keep all your conversations about upcoming runs contained there instead of here. :)

I may have missed it in this thread, but what's wrong with just saying "Glitch-less"? If enough people want to see more of the game, what would be wrong with just skipping all the glitches and going from there?

Part of me thinks that forcing a specific vote to be tied to a specific post might be a good idea. A post must be made to vote, and the vote must be tied to the post. It probably isn't trivial with the forum software, though...
This idea was tossed around the last time our voting system underwent an overhaul (remember my entertainment/tech score rating that tanked? yeah...). IIRC, it was generally disliked the last time it was discussed, although I can't quite remember why. I believe it was because of non-native English speakers having a very specific roadblock to expressing their vote.

mz; Unless you find a way to control the content created by all the other users on this site, there will continue to be people that want to work on those same Mario/Sonic/Metroid games. That doesn't make their work any less or any more worth publication than movies of new games. And stop exaggerating, it only weakens your (somewhat understandable, if completely overstated) point.
