I just watched this, and overall I'd say it's intersting, however I do have some suggestions. You seem to take some unnecessary hits, which to me distracted from the entertainment. I know it's unreasonable to try and avoid all damage, however it looks a little sloppy, the underground section in particular. You get tagged with a couple of shots from behind when you're running down the hallway that could easily be avoided, and I'm not sure but I think you could take out the grenade thrower at the beginning of the section before he has a chance to harm you. I also think it would be beneficial to blow up the crate that contains the yellow key while you're strafing around getting the tribals, since it wouldn't cost time and it would look more cleanly planned I think. Props to the first part of the level (above ground), it looked clean and quick. I think you have the beginnings of an impressive run here, albeit a long one. I was a big fan of this game, but only played through it 100% once (although I've picked it up and dropped it many times). I"ll definitely look forward to any progress and updates

Here's a suggested screenshot, showing off an almost completed hi score, and a headshot on the "final" boss worth 198,000 points. The hi score I got beat the default score by over 947 times, for clarification.

Absolutely astounding, and a great compliment to your first original sonic run. Very fun to watch.

I've never seen a game so terribly broken, that was ridiculous. Waiting for that sub 10 min run;)

That just made my day, but I do feel for them. I used to have room mate that would get so mad at playing RBI baseball on NES that he'd chuck the controller as hard as he could at the wall, tv, lamp... anything that was in range actually. I hope the new remotes are as sturdy as their old NES counterparts :)

lol guess I know your opinion of it

there are multiple times where it makes me wonder why the aim moves around while an enemy is waiting somewhere else to be killed. it looks a bit sloppy. maybe it's due to the fact that pauses are required between shots, I guess.
I tried a first run where I just moved to where the next enemy would pop up and there was a lot of down time and it got boring pretty quickly. With this run I tried to make it a little more surprising for the viewer to see which enemy I'd hit next, so all the excess motion is intentional, while still allowing for the enemy to be killed in the first possible frame (as you said, there's a pause between the next shot I can take, 62 frames to be exact, 123 in between reloads)

As far as I know there are only 3 versions, the USA version (0585), the Japanese version (0767), and the European version (1919). Hopefully if you use the 0585 version it will stop desynching, but if not let me know so I can try and figure out a way to fix the problem.

Thank you both for your support, even if this doesn't get published I"m glad I made an entertaining run for at least two people:) I do hope that some more people vote though, or at least some more feedback, since I'm always looking for areas of my technique to improve.

I have a quick question. I've finished up my run (and I'm going to redo it to shave a ton of time off poorly planned routes and to make it look a little more like a, um, drunk sniper), but I need to know when to end the movie. I take my last shot and there are a few cutscenes, then it says game over, then I'm prompted to enter my initials for the highscore list. Should I end the movie after the last shot or after I've entered my initials?

Hmm very interesting... I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't found out about this site and tried to squash it for copyright infringement. I might try it when the full version comes out though, since it looks a lot like Minish Cap

Alright, here's an updated vbm, which completes the first three levels with an ingame time of 1 minute and 24 seconds, and has a total movie time of around 2 and a half minutes. I know for sure the first, and probably the third level can be further optimized, but I'm almost positive the second level is nearly perfect. I'll still complete the movie, if only for my own entertainment, but let me know if you guys think this (or a polished rerun) is entertaining enough to be considered for publication. http://www.sendspace.com/file/t71cz7

Hey all, I need some opinions on whether this game would make a good TAS. I've run through the first level (with a kickass in-game time of just over 23 seconds), but I'm not sure if anyone else would want to watch (think it's fun to see perfect reflexes, but I know others will probably be bored with it). Here's a link for the .vbm, so let me know if you think I should go on with the rest of the levels (and try to clean up the first one, I was still getting the details down). Thanks for any ideas and input! http://www.sendspace.com/file/3jiexf

Thanks for all the input, I knew about the (poor) quality of this game for a TAS run about half way through it, but didn't know about the forum before I started, so I only read about the 'hard vs. easy' idea and other time saving theories post-run. However, as I said, this was my first try and I certainly enjoyed making it, if only to learn the ropes of TASing. I have no attachment to this game in particular, so picking another game to try is no biggie. I appreciate the critique on my aggressiveness, and I agree for the most part (although due to the lagging controls, it was tough to convey that in this game). In any case, thanks for the comments and I'll try to impress much more with my second run (although I have no idea what game to try yet, gonna wait until Christmas break to really jump in I think).

This is my first TAS, and actually my first post (didn't know the forum existed before I started my run), but here is my finished product for anyone to review and critique. http://www.sendspace.com/file/m228nr Since this was my first attempt, and I'd never played this game before I started TASing it, there wasn't much level planning or precision (at least on the first level), but I'm not sure if it's worth my time to retry before I submit (if I even try to). Have a look and let me know what you think, and please try to be constructive. It is definitely a boss-heavy game, which makes it a little dull to watch unfortunately. Buuuuut the sidescrolling water level might make a fun little stand alone movie, just for 2 minutes of combos and fun. Anyway, let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions for a game for my 2nd try? (if I don't try a rerecord of this one) Thanks all!
