Soulseek? Isn't it basically useless now? Ever since people have started using Bittorrent all good people seem to have left. :/
It's not useless per se, but you're right: all the good people are now on What.CD, Waffles, and other closed trackers.

This is a good list. Some of these skills, like life budgeting, are indeed close to extinct nowadays, which made some of the awesome genres once immensely popular (shmups, run'n'guns) wither and only carry on thanks to the comparatively small amount of loyal and devoted fans. Games where you die in a single hit are now referred to as stupid and too hard, while back in the day it was the norm everyone happily agreed upon.

Some general recommendations for game choice.
  • Good genres are platformers, adventures, and bomberman-style action/puzzle games.
  • It must not contain excessive luck manipulation.
  • It must not be "hold right to win" simple.
  • It must not be too complex.
  • It must be relatively short (definitely below 15 minutes for estimated completion time), but not too short.
  • It must not contain emulation errors or require using a feature-incomplete or notoriously problematic emulator (PCSX, Mupen, FBA).

A much faster run was rejected for bad game choice. [EDIT] I stand corrected, that run completed only three stages or four.

Has anyone ever been prosecuted for publishing a game video as a case of copyright infringement?

If you're neither smart nor hard-working, there are only two ways for you to get quick cash: good connections that can offer you an opportunity many others never get, and criminal deeds. Incidentally, these two ways have been prevalent in Russia and many other places since who knows when.

There is a grey area in regards to DMCA and similar laws of digital copyright management that is shifted between infringement and fair use by the intent of the "author". Naturally it allows paradoxical situations when content is coped via illegitimate means yet, of the acquirement of said means goes unnoticed, further usage cannot be claimed illegal unless/until it breaks other laws. It doesn't pertain to digital media. For instance, distribution and storage of illegal drugs is prohibited and is a criminal offense — being under their influence, per se, is not. Same with certain weaponry. In regards to TASing, the companies have no real ways to establish the ways the players are using to get access to ROMs, and thus cannot prosecute them for that (a situation similar to hypothetical SDA player using a pirated game to make a speedrun, something that cannot be traced). But creating TASes using the ROMs, by itself, is not illegal and cannot be prosecuted or claimed as copyright infringement since the act of TASing or releasing a video of a TAS is not an infringement in any way I know, and, largely because of that, the companies just don't bother with the likes of us: there are no solid legal reasons to close such a site, and even if one site is closed, another two will pop up in its stead. Getting ad revenue falls into this grey area as well, but there is no doubt it does shift the author's intent away from fair use. It shouldn't still be a solid ground for C&D'ing the site, but it can drag the administration into a legal debate that will ultimately cost more than what might be covered with well-placed ads.

Yeah, I don't really know what I am doing when it comes to tags. Probably stems from the fact that I am terrible at coming up with key words when searching for things myself.
Let's start with "mario, castlevania, zelda, metroid, megaman, sonic". You can also add something like "game video" just to generate more contextual hits.

I would like it imbedded on the site. Perhaps the homepage, perhaps our why and how.
Yes. Using it as a showreel on the homepage is something I wanted to suggest myself.

Also, I'm considering making it a torrent download as well (high quality version).
Yes, please (although this is low priority due to limited use).

Also, perhaps adding it to other streaming media sites that we don't have an account on.
Might be a good idea. There aren't many of them that are really popular, though. I guess I can only name Vimeo and Metacafe.

I'm spoiled by top-of-the-genre games and jaded by stupid game design ideas, that's all. However, that doesn't mean I dislike all casual games. For instance, Canabalt is pretty sweet until you get fucked by bad randomness.

Yeah, it's best to avoid any connotations to unassisted speedrunning in the context of the intro.

Make sure you watch the DailyMotion HQ version (select it in the dropbox if it's not on). It has better soundtrack, though still speedmetal.

Haha, wow. This game is actually a munchkin RPG in disguise. I played it to act 12 to see if it gets better, but it has pretty much every staple of bad game design, including but not limited to: — no replay value whatsoever; — every difficulty you meet along the way can be overcome by grinding; — the ship's hitbox for enemy collisions is 1.5 times larger than the sprite; — overheating weapons (now THAT'S a great idea!) that only serve the purpose of another purchaseable (read: grindable) upgrade; — extremely poor enemy movement/shot pattern design straight from 1985; — meaningless gauges for the sake of meaningless gauges (level up fuck yeah! Achievements woo!); — long and boring cutscenes that take several seconds even if you skip them; — enemies spawning on top of you mid-stage; — screen violently shaking and flashing each time you get hit (read: a lot); — et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. That's not counting the awesome stuff that happens if your mouse cursor leaves the boundary of the screen mid-battle. But that's an inherent platform disadvantage the authors have no control over if they want the game to be enjoyed by casual Internet audience. However, five minutes of playing Mu-cade is enough to realize all this and never go back to this game again. Thanks for reminding me about it. (Did I mention that Mu-cade was developed by only one person? Yeah, there's no excuse to do worse for a funded development studio.)

About 9 times faster than T1 potentially, but it's not really that much.

WiMax is already implemented in Moscow. It's becoming pretty popular as well. Connectivity and speed/packet loss really varies depending on a trillion of different conditions, though, so it's still too early to make conclusions.
