Gets sort of complecated here, but I'll try to explain my idea as well as I can:
For all doors that require 15 stars or less, I'll get in them using any method (eg, Lobby Glitch), whenever I want/need. For all doors that require more than 15 stars, I'll also get in them using any method, but only when I'd normally have enough stars to get through them in normal playing...
Hopefully that didn't come out too confusing.
For going up the final staircase, I'm impartial to doing it either way, so when the time comes, we can have a small vote or something...
Anyway, still trying to match FODA/AKA's frame-count for Shoot into the Wild Blue... I'm about 30 frames behind them; but getting a little closer with every try.
Heh, it won't... I probably won't BLJ up the B3 staircase either, for the reason you said, but I will BLJ up the 50 Star Door stairs, in order not to get the door sequence.
Yeah, this is really just for fun, and definitely not as serious as the 16 or 120 star runs...nevertheless, I feel that it would complete the gap in the SM64 runs.
I don't see why I can't BLJ; the point of the run is the significance of getting 70 stars, not how I do it, IMHO.
I tried it, and it seems like an excellent tool...for a 16 star run. Seriously, using frame-advance is hard enough, but adjusting the analog stick coordinates for almost every frame in a 70 star run really seems like too much... I know it looks a little sloppy now, but it'll get a lot better. And chances are, someone will attempt a 70 star TAS not too long after this one is finished, and completely beat this...probably using the TAS Plugin.
Right now I'm trying to match FODA's frame-count for Shoot into the Wild Blue.
Actually, I'm pretty sure he got that from me. http://youtube.com/watch?v=M40TSIiAoiQ
Anyway, incredible job, FODA! It came out almost perfect, so congratulations, and thanks for an entertaining new run!
And I decided to do a 70 Star TAS (a good one, not like that crap one I posted before), despite the facts that
a) not as many people would want it, and
b) I've never done a TAS with frame advance...
Nevertheless, I'm trying it, and if anyone wants any updates, just say so.
Anyway, once again, congratulations, FODA, it came out stunningly.
EDIT: For the 70-star run, I decided to try to do one star a day, excluding really short ones. Here's star 1, if anyone's interested. To my count, it's less than 7 frames slower than FODA, which is good enough for me.
I never check these boards, and I didn't know this thread existed; but if I did know about it, I'd give it a "hell yes!".
Which I still scream after seeing it.
Heh, I never said frame advance was used...it wasn't.
Yeah, the BLJ through the door was a mistake. It was to save time, but I see that it sort of defeats the purpose.
Just finished a 70 star run... This one concentrates more on tricks than time; working on another one that concentrates more on the latter. If you're bored, check it out: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2683/70%20Star%20Run%20-%20V7.m64. My first TAS run, so it's fairly bad; the TAS Plugin wasn't used, just slowdown, so it's nothing like a FODA- or AKA-style run.
Some credit goes to a guy named Swordless Link, who did a few stars in here.
I've been using Mupen64 Rerecording Edition for a while now to take care of my basic household TAS needs, and it's been working fine... But now, for some reason, the fast-forwarding doesn't work at all. I customized the button for "F", and it doesn't work... When I do hold "F", the frames get all choppy, but the framerate stays the same. You can imagine how annoying this is when recording a long movie.
Any help? Thanks in advance.
I'd estimate it only takes about ten seconds more (excluding the star sequence)... First, there's going back for the first red coin, and then long jumping to the platform with the Amp and back. Other than that, everything's pretty much on the route. I'd say B1 is probably the most valuable star in a 16-star run.
It was just a joke...
A hilarious one, at that.
EDIT: Calling my previous joke funny was a joke in itself; I know that it was incredibly unfunny. I will stop making jokes now.
Dammit, I was gonna make a video of that right now… I didn’t know Petey already made one… Anyway, that’s the Whomp method. It’s looks sort of faster, but it takes time to lure the Whomp into position.
