CommonTricks - newbies, inter GameResources - everyone ListOfIdeas - not very usefull, maybe for newbies, but can be deceiving GuideLines - important. BossFightingGuide - newbies EmulatorHomepages - important UsingEmulatorTools - important CodecProblems - important, but i prefer using xvid so we dont have codec problems at all. PasswordGenerators - cool. could add gauntlet, with permission of the guy from gamefaqs. Rules - important HexEditing - this helped me GenericTips - for newbies and inters and people who think they are expert at TAS, but aren't (like me hehe). Helping - its good as it is Users - never found a use for this MostActivePosters - nice page Recommended movies - its nice as it is, very good page Movie history - having the record is good And since we're suggesting here, i'd like to have a unassisted speedruns page, but that could be complicated and not the goal of the site. but it would be just a "fun" page. dunno.

yea, hopper, xebra was being sarcastic. But i enjoy nes games because i know how to appreciate them, not because of some deja vu feeling. Maybe i just dont know how to appreciate a text based game, you tell me what's good about it.

Text adventures aren't more than mere novelties, the kind you replay for 2 minutes and never again.

Kinda hard to take the "shortcut" while using the skateboard, but good luck. Even though its a shortcut, i think it is faster to just go under, because theres a really long time needed to get up there. You may want to measure that.

haha thanks, but those mistakes were decisions i made while i was making the run, again i didnt really plan anything. and no way i'd reset it on world 6! everything was going perfectly! but i didnt know anything about the gold ship, so you taught me things i didnt know (like it being the hammer bros transformed, and it giving the same prize). about the clouds... yea, now i know that :S but doesnt matter anyway because next time i play it i'll please the audience by finishing all levels.

Yea thought about it, and i think this game is very complex for a timeattack, which is good and bad. I'd like to see parts of flying without the robot ("naked") to more easily get through stuff.

I lost 1 life at the first castle (ship) Lost 1 at level 2-3 Lost 1 at 6-9 Lost 1 at 6-10 SUICIDED at world 7 first small forstress because i couldnt figure where to find a freaking leaf!!!! lost huge time here, then skipped the level with a cloud. Lost 1 at 7-8 (went there once, then went sucesfully for the 7-7 route which i should have used in the first place) Lost 1 at world 7 second fortress, then used a cloud to skip it. I entered the gold ship in world 6. The good side to this is that i got a cloud on it. I tried to use the cloud on the tank! but didnt work lol.... could have skipped one extra level, what a waste... I was attacked by the 3rd hand at world 8. I killed bowser the way hes supposed to be killed: fast! >D So, overall this was well played, but the route is still really full of mistakes. If a route was to be really planned this could be 5 minutes faster still, playing at same skill level i played. here it is http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/smario3-foda-fluteless-v2.zip

The only rule is "dont use a flute", which means you can grab the flute in fortress 1 as long as you dont use it. Anything else goes, you dont need to do all levels, just the ones you think are necessary, its allowed to use the cloud to skip level, etc. My time under these rules was 1:30:17 EDIT: just forgot to mention that while i made this, a weird thing hapenned: i was in world 7, so i beat first level and the "N" memory game bonus appeared at the "start" square. I went for it to get some items, got some but didnt clear the puzzle, and when i exited, it reappeared and pulled me back in. That kept hapenning and i was afraid to get stuck so i tried to move just before i was grabbed again, and i could escape. The bonus stood there. Is this a known glitch? here are the details: before entering level 1 i had: 10 x lives 10 x coins 0814760 points a flower bonus lotsa items after exiting level 1 i had: 10 x lives 18 x coins 0828160 points a flower and a mushroom bonuses lotas items The N of spades bonus appeared so that i could enter it 5 times in a row... It didnt matter if i win or if i lose, it just appeared 5 times. I tested beating all 5 of them and it was possible.

Actually, it was the first to emulate correctly the OoT, for me. About needing a controller, thats no problem. I have one and there are many for sale, they are cheap and usefull for any gamer, so nobody would buy it just to make n64 TAS. The real n64 range is probably an estimate of the physical limitations of the analog stick (the plastic around it that doesnt allow it to go further). Not using it would be as much cheating as using left+right becasue one can go beyond the "real n64 range" by opening the controller.

I would like a programmer to add re-recording to MUPEN64 or fix finalburnalpha instead of doing "fine tuning" tools for already working re-recording emulators.

Nice tool, bisqwit, but how do you know which buttons are pressed and which ones aren't? does it display on screen? The only trouble i have while making 2 player movies is that my hands hurt. I use right hand to press ALL the buttons in the gamepad (player 2) PLUS the arrows in the keyboard (player 1) by positioning the controller by the side of it. Right hand also press pause (ENTER). The left hand is responsible for frame advance, p1 buttons (except arrows), and savestate issues. Before i notice, the controller has slipped far from the keyboard and my right hand is doing some acrobatic movement to reach both at the same time, and i'm so 'entertained' by the action on screen that i only notice it 3 or 4 minutes later after serious damage lol

You might be in the middle of a jump and you have to find the earliest possible frame when you can let go of A and still land on the other side of the pit. You might have to shoot an enemy and you have to find the earliest frame to shoot so that he'll be vulnerable by the time the shot hits him.
I think this was the main issue in his post, right? At those cases it helps to do a lot of jumps with slow speed (no frame advance), and when you feel confident enough you try to understand the situation better, like: "i have to run as fast as possible to the right, go left as soon as possible for as little frames as possible, fall from the ledge, grab the item and then run right again". Understanding that makes it easier to get the final result right.

Suppose you're running towards a door, and you're holding down the buttons B and right. First you get somewhat close to the door, maybe 2 or so character widths away, and pause the emulator. Then you click on something in the menu called something like "frame search". Then you enter a combination of buttons being pressed that you're going to be switching to soon, which in this case would be B, right, and up. Then you click "search", and starts playing the game automatically at full speed from where you paused it, pressing up immediately. Then once you see whether or not you entered the door, you can press right to go through and test each frame. If you press right once, it'll rewind to the spot where you originally paused it, but this time wait a frame before it starts pressing up. Each time you press right, it'll rewind, start playing at full speed and start pressing up a frame later, and you can also press left if you want to go back to pressing up earlier. You can speed things up even more by making an estimate and pressing right several times to quickly get close to the correct frame, and the press left or right to find it exactly. Once you find the correct frame, you click "exit frame search", and it brings you to the first frame where it pressed up and pauses it.
I'm not sure if i understood this, but.. that kind of simple search is too easy to do and such a tool would require some work which wouldn't compensate, i think.

When i have to stop doing something at a specific frame and then the result of "worked" or "didnt work" only takes place a long time after, i play the game at 100% or even 200% speed, pause, frame advance, save, unpause. didnt work? pause, load, frame advance, save in different slot, unpause. and so on, it doesnt take long.

in order to do small jump you need to not be pressing B. in order to run you need to press B. the rest is easy to figure :) the probem with this submission is that it doesnt work with the good dump but i won't have time to remake from 6-4 and it would be a lot of work for it to look the same in the end and i don't know if it'd be pusblished so i'll leave it to the judges

like i said, try loading 10 roms located on the hard disk so you can erase all history, maybe you copied it from some place that had loaded something from a cd-rom, dunno.
