I'm not trying to grab the award or anything, but i really think contra 3 has very few impressive places (like climbing fast). The rest of the action happens everyday on zbattle.

No, the snes game is much better. Its like a remake of the nes version, (i have never played the genesis one) but it has a lot of improvements, not only graphically. Btw, the japanese version has a debug mode and i couldnt find the damn code anywhere on the internet. I used to own a japanese cart 10 years ago, and the magazine gave the instructions to the code. I only remember the first part: - go to password, input "SPECIAL" and click OK. you will hear a different sound, then cancel, start the game. in the game, pause and enter the sequence. This sequence is what i dont remember, but it was somthing involving almost all snes buttons, without repetition, almost like the capcom street fighter 2 code. I remember on that debug mode there a sound test, and there was a music that i coulndt find anywhere in the game.

Finished level 3, i got a lot of points and lives on level 2, also made the toads fight each other on some places. Looks good i hope. At end of level 3, the movie is 13.5 seconds faster than the 1p warpless movie. I'm not worrying too much about player 2 amount of lives, because i can always kick him to oblivion later, but anyway, i try to give the extra lives to player 1. http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/bt-2p-warpless-foda-v5-level3.zip

Here is the complete level 1 file. It goes 8.5 seconds faster than the 1p warpless run. I dont know how many levels will actually save time, and i dont remember right now how many seconds are lost because of 2 players bug on level 11, but i think it may be possible that this is faster than the 1p warpless. http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/bt-2p-warpless-foda-v5-level1.zip I also got the upwards and downwards headbutts correctly. Left+right is needed for it to work. oh, and, i made level 1 slower 2 frames so that the last part didnt look so boring.

This makes no sense, i reached the boss at frame 3852 but now he shot the ball at frame 4149!! ok thats 30 frames faster than what i had, but i dont want 30, i want 256 :S Ok i guess i know what happened. I got the bat earlier this time, so the bat uses less repeating frames when theres a hit, and these frames cut down some time but the boss doesnt count repeated frames on his loop sequence, or something like that... So... i dont think the bat lag should be taken in consideration in the first level. EDIT: freaking Whoo hoo! with that lag thing in mind i finally got it!! reached him at frame 3851 and he shot the ball at frame 3922! i can finally end this level, now only 11 to go :)

I dont own any new videogame because: #1: its super damn expensive here in Brazil, i'd rather have major upgrades on my PC like putting 2 more GB of ram #2: playstation failed me and that was part of the reason i searched for older games.

Never ending games dont bother me. As long as they actually get hard at some point.

My passion for older games started becasue of nostalgia, but i aprreciate new and old games, even if i had never even heard about them, as long as they are good games. I think that people who dont have a nostalgia feeling from older games are less likely to have an open mind to accept them as being good. The usual thought is: old game= bad

Just making it short: If i can make it 4 frames faster, that will make the movie more than 4 seconds faster, and with no waiting time. Phil got it on frame 4310 on his 1p warpless movie, and the boss fired the ball at frame 4441, so, i did something 6 frames faster that triggered the boss attack count 6 frames sooner...

hmmm i must have made something wrong on that math lol, 4114 - 256 = 3858 that means i only need to make it 4 frames faster to get it the right movement :S here is the movie file. it reaches the black screen before the boss at frame 3862, i must reach that screen at frame 3858, any help is appreciated. http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/bt-2p-warpless-foda-v3-3862.zip

The boss in the first level only launches the first ball at frame 4179. I have reached the boss at frames ranging from 3862 (when the screen goes black, my fastest) to frame 4114 exactly (that is the last frame before he changes patterns). On all frames between those frames, the boss will launch the first ball at frame 4179. Reaching there earlier than fram,e 4114 means waiting at the boss screen, because he will sit there and do nothing, or just move around untill he can shoot. If i wait past frame 4114, he launches the ball at frame 4435. 4435 - 4179 = 256 frames! weird number for frame count this is the interval at which he shoots the first ball. 4179 - 256 = 3923 this is the frame i was wanting the boss to start shooting at. 4179 - 4114 = 65 this is how much time went from black screen to the boss shooting the ball, this is the best frame amount. So, 3923 + 65 = 3988. This is the frame the screen should have gone black to give me a good movement for the boss. But i reached way sooner than that and he still didnt give me what i wanted so i give up for this level, gonna kick his ass and move on to level 2, unless someone has a better idea. I really dont see how it can be made any faster. edit: fix, its 3923 - 65 = 3858. this is the correct frame for reaching the black screen.

Its not that bad, really, the problem is it wanted to be 3d in the 3d videogames era, but as a game its not that bad. The good thing for timeattack is that there might be many unprogrammed shortcuts on it.

As soon as "computer" data is no longer stored in 0s and 1s, it will be easier, untill then, stick to dvds or vhs

I already told him to focus on 1 game at a time, he has more chance to get a movie published if he focuses in 1 game instead of making lots of movies, none of them will be published.

Alright, i think i've overdone myself now. 22:40 run, level 5 route (its autoscrolling, levle 4 isnt, so, even on a timeattack level 4 being 30 seconds faster, i dont think that its a good choice for a speedrun) I lost 3 lives total during levels, here is how much time i lost by having to backtrack due to lost lives: level 3 =~ 15 seconds (1 life lost) level 9 =~ 16 seconds (1 life lost) level 12 =~ 45 seconds (1 life lost) Also lost 1 life at boss of level 11, one life at dark queen, and 1 life after dark queen fight (after stopped recording). But its hard to measure how much time was lost there, so i'm not counting it. So, the way i played the time would have been 21:24~ if i hadnt lost any lives. The most improveable place is level 12. I dont think i can make the other levels much better (besides some missed punches). Here is the video: http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/battletoads-u-speedrun-foda-v4.zip

I beat battletoads its not big deal (see speedruns forum) Ghosts'n Goblins on the NES is a hard game, but i've beat it as well, and the snes version. I've also beat Adventure island (massive use of continues). Also beat batman, punchout, ninja gaidens, rush'n attack, super pitfall. (just mentioning some games that i find quite hard and are on that list, even though there are easy games on it. My votes to hardest games go to: Ghostbusters (NES) Gauntlet (NES) Holy diver (NES) (sure some of the difficulty belongs to the controller failing, but still a hard game) Rolling Thunder (NES) Top Gun (NES) I have never seen that last level for those games, and believe me, i tried, except rolling thunder, thanx to the timeattack heh.

that depends then on what people would like to see. a no damage run or a "use all resources" run. i think its complicated to not do a damage run on the arcade version as you get to choose how many lives to start with. I'd do a no damage, on hardest mode starting with 1 life. But i guess it'd be OK to lose energy by using magic as long as energy is refilled later instead of getting killed.

The workaround to that is loading the movie as "read-only", loading the savestate, saving a new state where you want to re-record, playing back without "read-only" and loading the state :P Yea thats a lot of trouble heh

Yea, that may be good. If it looks like the toad will hit the pin but avoids on the last moment, than it is good.
