I never played it, but i think it makes more sense to play in-game time units.

Hmm, i just did it on expert mode used a couple of credits, it was my first try speedrunning it, and took 44 minutes and 24 seconds. Sounds like a lot, but the game is really hard and long, i'm happy with just finishing it and having 3 credits left. At least this one can be used as a basis for planning a timeattack for this game, or anyone else trying to speedrun it. - expert mode - wizard - 44:24 completion time - uses continues :P - http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/kingofdragons-foda-speedrun-v1.zip I think i should have used magic more, especially at the start when wizard's weapon was weaker. Those skeletons took the flesh out of wizard's bones. Should also have grabbed less money, but i was trying to level up. Honestly, i didnt think i would finish the game, as in earlier attempts at expert mode i couldnt finish it. I would really like to see someone trying this game, especially because there's no timeattack yet.

I think soft reset IS, most of the time (if not all the time, save the cases where it doesnt do anything at all), intended to behave differently than power on, i.e. NES battletoads where soft reseting after starting a game allows one to skip the intro sequence. Excitebike though, has a weird music difference, kind of contradicting what i just said :)

make it clear: the obvious advantage of doing a hard level first is that if you mess up you can restart.

i got a time of 22:38 (with destroying silas volkmire spaceship). Actually, i finished it and then took about 3 seconds to stop the recording. So it can count as 22:35 i lost a life on level 2 and 2 lives on the dark queen fight. the biggest time wasters were the last level, the dark queen fight and a bug that happened on the snake pit which made me lose some 30 seconds. try to download from here... http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/battlemaniacs-foda-speedrun-v2.zip

very good :) good job i have one question: cant you save a second or two on the last boss if you dont go for the power up, and go straight to the boss instead? tradução: só tenho uma pergunta, será que não dava pra ser um ou dois segundos mais rapido no ultimo chefe se você ignorar o bonus e for pra cima dele logo?

ok it took me 31 minutes to finish it (31:49) thats because i died on levels 8, 10 and 12. too bad. too much backtracking, its better to go slow and not die than trying to go a little fast. i lost my first life on level 8, so i'm assuming if i train well i can not lose any life at all (except on boss battles, which is no biggie anyway)

So, anyone wants to try it out? i can easily get to level 12, but thats the one that needs training for me. I dont know the current record (if there's any) but i'd go for a sub 20 minutes run. I'll try it when i get home.

i would like some competition but with some different game, maybe battletoads :P heh... i somehow suck at megaman. i tried to play megaman 3 these days and got really bored at dying and have to go all the way back. maybe i wasnt made for this game.

I meant that the music that was supposed to play on level 1 plays on a different level, and the music that was supposed to play on another level plays on level 1. i dont know what levels have thw wrong music, but it sure isnt few of them. The game is excellent, i'd say its the best straightforward castlevania ever.

This timeattack took me one and a half month to make. I started planning to break the 8 minutes mark, and did everything possible to cut time and get through the levels as quickly as possible. I take hits for speed or to get through hard obstacles without wasting time. This is the third version of my timeattack, i think i'm getting it near perfect! Here's a detailed description of the movie: - Level 1: Sliding as much as possible. Notice that some enemies die when hit by the sliding tackle. The coolest part of the movie is when i use a bug in the game to skip the first mini boss. Unluckly, i couldnt get to the stage boss without getting killed while using the bug, so i take Hiryu to the last point possible and restart by getting a shurtcut, so i can skip a part of the level. The boss is killed very quickly because of the long sword acquired a bit earlier. - Level 2: I blast through this mini boss. This is necessary to gain some time right after when climbing the walls. The first encounter with Solo is also really quick. Only 3 hits and he is out. I use Dan's technique to gain time on the way down. I think i did a good job on the little flying ships part... Sometimes i even get out of the screen, the game just cant keep up :P I kill the ninja girls and the pilot of the big ship quickly. - Level 3: I get hit at the start to same some time. After the cannon i managed to jump past the plataforms and same some more time. The work on the following plataforms give me some extra tenths of seconds. I get hit by the spear on the gravity section to save time (again). On the big main room of the spaceship, at the orbing part, i get hit. That way the gravity has no effect on me anymore so i can hit the enemy many times. Nothing special for the rest of the level. - Level 4: This level takes place in Brazil! I use the plataforms to jump really high. Getting hit by the sphere saves half second. If i could i wouldnt kill the amazons, but they stay in my way throwing axes! To those who played Strider, be aware that brazilian indians dont make totems like those found on this level. That is typical of north american indians. Apparently the Capcom designers didnt make a good research. This boss, the Golden Dragon, i hate him, i wish i could find a way to not have to confront him on the game.
This is too big and kinda pointless, i will continue to translate later. My advice to neofix is to be more straightforward on the movie description. People want to hear the tricks and time savers. You dont have to keep saying all the time "to save time" as if it was an excuse for getting hit. It should be obvious and the movie description already says it. Dont describe the whole level by text, we can see the movie. Describe on the text things that are not clear. 80% of what you wrote is seeable on the movie. the text above in portuguese for neofix: Meu conselho pra você é que você seja mais direto na descrição do filme.

I think this idea shouldnt have any restrictions. I support the idea of recording reset commands at any point on a movie starting with power on. It's creativity.

i suggest using nintendulator for this one because fceu has a background boss problem (the boss is not shown on screen, even though he is there and beatable). nintendulator should run fine. i have done a test run long time ago in famtasia and i believe i opened a thread about this game let me search: the werewolf thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1090&highlight=kick+master the kickmaster thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4125#4125
