hmmm i dont get what you want to do, you can only continue movies by playing a movie, saving a state just before it ends and then loading that state (before the movie stops playback). unless you know hex-editing you can't "paste" movies together... here is how i'm recording adventure island on fceu: 1 - load the game 2 - then "file" - "record movie" (record from reset, choose a proper filename) OR: 3 - if you want to continue recording (usually to continue the work in progress by doing the later levels), go to "file" - "replay movie" and choose the file you recorded. Watch the movie to the point you want to continue recording, slow the speed down and save a state. i use state #9. (hit "9" and save). and then load the state hint / must do:have your file manager open on the folder where the movie file is, and constantly make a copy of the movie file (i.e. everytime you finish recording a level) so that if you load at a wrong point you won't lose all the work you did after that point, it's a VERY common problem, so it's a good thing to get used to doing backups. 4 - save state "9" at the start of the level, use states from 1-6 to play the game, and finish a level. 5 - make a backup of the file, close the movie, open the movie again, but mark the "read only" option. now load the state "9" you saved at the start of the level and check if the level was played correctly. in case it was, save state "9" at the start of the next level. 6 - use the frame count feature to know exactly what is faster to do. (map hotkeys to your liking) 7 - put the WIP on the proper forum and discuss the game with people! but do some searching because the game might have been tried already, so you can maybe find something about it on the forums. and, most important, good luck and have patience! :)

One question though: When I frame advance, I have to press the '\' key at least 3 times before a frame actually goes by. Is this normal?
isnt that because the game looks like it's 10 frames per second? so it's 3 equal frames, then next 3, and so on...

hmm the game gets even more interesting as it goes on :) theaxeman is right, the farther the better. i've discovered some things about the game, after i'm finished i'll post them so anyone who would like to improve the run can have something to start with. i've reached 7-1 in 25:30 minutes, but 6-4 had a desynch i'll have to remake it. here's the WIP to the start of 6-4: http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/FODAAdvilnd1WIP.zip

yea well it might be interesting to exploit the glitches in the game and.... wait a second... the game is MADE of glitches!! yucks! you're gonna have to make that cheetah go upside down because the game is BAD, and the music!! if you can keep shooting or something so that the music isnt played i think it's for the best. this game is not a hack, it's unlicensed, i dont know if it's in for publishing.. i would watch it though, because i could never get past the first level, i never figured if the plataforms are enemies or vice-versa O_o

i was watching it on a different rom and it went desynch at 3-2; watching your run i couldnt help but compare with the one i'm currently making :P - have you tested if shooting makes you lose speed (because you have to release B)? - if not, then there seem to be some enemies you ignore, while others you kill. maybe they could be killed? it's going good though, i have no real complaints :) i think adv island should be done by killing as many enemies as possible, it looks better on a straight-forward game, i guess. unless it's really hard to avoid the enemies. it isnt so hard to avoid the enemies on mario 1, so maybe you should really kill all you can ;)

i've never shipped to out of the country, and these things are big and heavy, it must be expensive to send them, i would sell each NES game for ~$3, and each snes game for ~$6 (that's about how much they are worth here, going at a low price) but if someone wants to get a bunch of them at once i would of course make it cheaper, i just dont know anything about shipping to other countries.

i think it's in the site guidelines that only official versions of official games should be accepted..

ok i dont know how old is that movie, i'm just stating that it can't be counted as a timeattack as we know, it does look like a legit run to me... :S
hmmm i'm sorry if i insulted anyone, but this is not a legit run site, so i dont care who made the movie, i'm talking about the *movie*, not the player. i think you're taking it personally, i'm only talking about the file. // about the game, i've gotten to level 5-3 and still under 20 minutes mark, the game may be done under 37 minutes. maybe it could be published then? i'm doing all i can to make it look humanly impossible (i.e. doing things like jumping or shooting at the last possible frame).

i've finished level 4-2 on fceu, and i have a tough question, let's see if someone can answer. i've realized that it's a good thing to get the eggplant (that bad guy who drains energy) because then i can get fruits and milk, but that's only to add to the score. but now that i have made 15 minutes of movie, there was one eggplant on level 1-3 that i didnt take, do you people think i should go back and make everything again? it's just score, but it just doesnt look right that on one level i take the eggplant and on the other one i dont... (i took it on 3-4). there were no other eggplants to get, only on those 2 levels. i dont know if i should re-do everything or just keep going. btw, the game is not 13 levels, it's 8. wonder boy is 13 levels. so adventure island should be done under 45 minutes, i guess. here's the wip (fceu with blip patch) http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/FODAAdvilnd1WIP.zip

i am recording on FCEU and i realized i had to go back to the start of the level, so i stopped the movie, loaded themovie again marked the "read only" option, and loaded the state i saved at the start of the level so i could watch only that level instead of watching the whole game from the start, but to my surprise it stopped the movie, and when i played the whole thing back, it erased everything i had done from that point!!! so i guess "read only" doesn't work???? it made me lose 70% of a level work.... will i have to watch my movie from the start every level i finish? i dont like recording madly without watching everything on every level to make sure it have been recorded correctly or if i did any mistakes....

is it possible to jump in mid air and go UNDER the plataforms on that level where you fight a fliyng man? i mean, you go ove rthe plataforms but if you can jump freely in mid air i think it would look much cooler to go under! i just dont know how hard would it be to do that now :P

agreed, // The recording should be stopped as soon as player input can't make the avi shorter. // this is the rule i think is the best, maybe in other words it would look cooler, but the idea is that.

Awesome, i thought Lezard's run was very interesting to watch, but since his isn't around anymore and the run is on my old computer, i can't watch it. Cheers for giving it a go dude ^-^
i just watched it, it wasnt done by lezard, was done by melfice. my run is much better, it's like he did it at 100% speed with re-recording only in the level-betweens... i could do the first level faster than him on a real NES :S

even after touching the axe, the watcher can still pause the game, i dont see why should we worry about watcher input, it's so much simpler to allow competition for shortest movies possible.

Left+right and up+down are possible on a console...it may require certain types of controllers, but it's doable. I recall someone (FODA?) saying on here that he uses it to make stage 11 of Battletoads easier. That's the whole reason these glitches are OK for timeattacks, IIRC... -Josh
I opened the controller, removed the plastic part of the D-pad (leaving exposed the rubber part which is the real contacts) so that i could press the directions sure that it wouldnt press 2 directions at the same time. But it can also be used to intentionally press left+right or up+down.... :S
