Nice ideas. I haven't put much thought into how practical it would be to TAS like that, but it sure can be useful for example to try to manipulate luck DURING movie playback by pressing some buttons that don't affect the movement. Maybe you could play with "Append" AND read-only both turned on! That way you could even play against a recorded movie on street fighter over and over without having to pick a backup of the file every time you restart from the savestate, or play some game in co-op mode while trying not to make the other player desync too much! There are probably better uses for this "player vs movie" idea. Maybe a challenge "who can keep up in real time with my movie in this coop 2 players platformer". Mode naming suggestions: Insert Inject Complement Overwrite

Well, the workbench forum is the perfect place to say things like "I liked that!", so please do, if you have the time.

Interesting. We don't see many people talking about tases other than "hah!!! you're cheating, that's too easy you lazy suckers, I wanna see you play like a real man". I wonder why he chose to lurk?

I'm terrible at this kind of thing, but I did discover a flaw in the quiz: you can use the back button after getting one wrong to keep going. :) I spent most of my time on consoles, growing up, and these days arcade games are generally too transient an experience to keep me involved, barring the occasional urge to play Metal Slug games.
Wow... That's some real flaw.

This movie is f***ing awesome!!! Seriously, it's brilliant, and it's one of my strongest yes votes, since it obsoletes a run by a large amount of frames and entertainment. I love it how you can just barely get back in the elevator after opening an adjacent door. I love the elevator glitching. The movie was overall funny because of that. Humm I hadn't read the whole submission text and it sure is funny. YES, please add subtitles to insert a little story telling on each level. Congrats, Guybrush.

Great, I've tried it once and got 53. But 90% of them were guessing.

No at all, what determines the time of each segment, is the moment in which you kill the last enemy, once you do that, the rest is trivial.
- I don't think that was the case, the next screen appears when Max goes past the right side of the screen. I felt like that was the most glaring mistake in the run. - There was a moment on the beach military base level where you fight 2 women and many weak motorcyclers where you gave priority to killing the ladies and then there were many bikers to kill. Wouldn't it have been faster to focus on the bikers first? - I enjoyed the run, and I can't compare it to the published one, but I was turned down by the abuse of knee stomping on the last level, I was hoping for some variety there.

It seems to be the spot where the screen starts scrolling.

Can we make a list of pros and cons of piracy or would that be impossible? for the author: Pros - easier advertising - it can generate a better profit if it's a very good product Cons - it can hurt the profits if it's a mediocre, or bad product for the end-user: Pros - cheap - can try it out before commiting a big investment Cons - you don't usually get the whole product - no technical support - no warranties - you "may" get caught (nah)

I agree with adelikat's "n players" suggestions. Labels I think are relevant, because they go away from the obvious "as fast as possible", or because they do things other than the basic TAS rules (often being inperceptible). - Starts from a previous sram - Starts from a savestate - Uses a password - Uses a cheat code - n players (as in how many characters are controlled) - Warpless - 100% completion - Doesn't use [this glitch/feature] (game especific) - Takes no damage - Aims for fastest in-game time - Trades time for entertainment

This is one of the things moozooh has been saying. It works sometimes, but not always. What I meant is that, in practice, there is a law that people can choose to obey or not, without worrying about a direct consequence to the self.

So the problem is that people get away easily when the crime is piracy.

@moozooh: Now, now, I see some laws here that don't always make sense like the "it's a license instead of ownership" thing, but come on, when you say that you can give away pirate copies to anyone, I'm sorry but that makes no much sense either. If you could buy a "blank car" for 100 dollars, buy a ferrari for a million, and then keep your ferrari and copy it to your blank car and give it to a friend, would that be fair? Do you know how much work went into designing the ferrari? DVDs with content aren't the same as blank DVDs. What's at stake here isn't the physical disk, but the data in it. You can do whatever you want to your BLANK DVD, but you can't give away a copy of the data you've purchased and still use that same data. I can see where you're going if you're honestly "trying it out", which is still an illegal act, but it can help the artist/author/company. But when you just copy, enjoy all of it and move on to the next game/movie/album, there you're hurting the industry. So what do you want? The right to let your friends try out the things you like? I think you should do that by lending the copy you've purchased instead of distributing copies. Now, back to the Ferrari analogy. What if your friend is poor and he can't afford a Ferrari. He would still have a pirated Ferrari for 100 dollars. Perfect world? Well, I don't know! One thing is for sure, he wouldn't be getting the cheaper cars. So in this world there would only be big elite manufacturers and mass blank cars manufacturers.

Oh, that. Yeah, that's crazy. I put it on the same bag as "if you're watching this movie outside of [put country name here] you're involved in a crime".

If by sharing you could give say levels 2 and 3 to a friend, and keep levels 1, 4 and 5 to yourself then it would be the same analogy :)

Imagine if people could copy cars, televisions... They already "can" copy some other stuff.

Warp: yeah, I've read about that and it's incredible that there is a party that defends such a position. It's insane that they just say "hey, everything should be free" without actually presenting a viable solution for that to happen. Kuwaga: that's kind of what I tend to do too. But I twist it a bit: I spend all my money on games. I spend it on games that I feel that deserve my money. But I want to play more than I can afford, so I try some games first for free. Sometimes I buy games waaaaay after I've played them to exaustion (age of empires 2 for example, I've finally bought it after years of playing), just because I've felt like it deserves it. If only everyone could do this... I've heard people who actually love videogames say "hell no, I will NEVER spend money on games, because they are available for free!" with a lot of pride on saying that, because it would be really stupid to pay for something that is free. That is how piracy is encrusted in our culture.

My only concern is that it should always be explicitly stated that it isn't a normal play, and it should have some direction to understanding more about that (preferably a link to this site). I felt that speedruns.net lacked that approach, so I never gave it attention. However, it's good to have someone willing to support TASes, so good luck with the uploads!

Maybe obsoleting now and then only accepting runs on the US version if they are truly glitchless.

With so much control, couldn't you make him sing the game's most famous song or something else?

That's like a New Super Mario Bros DS TAS obsoleting all published Mario TASes :/
No because it isn't the same game. It would be like that GBA super mario 3 remake obsoleting smb3 on the nes and snes. Btw, nice run. yes vote.
