If you check my Yo! Noid TAS there, you'll find a great quality, while my Trackmania Nations speedrun video is at a terrible quality. It's just that some games' graphics don't compress well, while others do, as it should be expected.

In addition to already listed NES games I add International Track and Field 2. It's easy to like the old konami games because of the excellent music and well sized difficulty.

There's an easy solution, actually: build a new PC from old scrap parts. You can get most of those for free (or at bargain prices at least), as you don't need a powerhouse to make TASes or chatting on IRC.
Thanks, I may get into that when I have the time.

yep, I took it to the office so I can work with my coleagues, which means that at home I can only do what one can do on the wii: browse (and play :)- It means my forum activity will go down, I'll disappear from irc, and I won't be able to make a tas for a while, most likely more than a year. All in the name of trying my own business. wish me luck :)

My tip to you is: try to make a much optimized as you can first minute of OoT and take notes of EXACTLY what you did and post here. We may have hints on what you can do better to use your time. Maybe you're using only one savestate slot? Maybe you're not using read-only toggle? Maybe you're not using frame by frame timing attempts with a savestate when using frame advance to find the earliest frame to do something? We can't know unless you tell us. What JXQ said is true, it has to be fun, right? You should enjoy the results, no matter how long it takes to make them. If you're not enjoying it, don't push yourself, read more first, watch more tases, read the game's discussion topics... And then try again later.

Adelikat wins... Redo OoT is the first thing I thought! The only thing that people complained about was accuracy? Well, do that! About knowing other games: you'll have to read about them on the net, make some test runs (rough TAS just to test the route) and then see what needs to be done, plan, tests, and then make the final thing. For a really long game like OoT I agree that it is easier to know the game before hand, but most games here are 20 minutes long movies, so you can TAS a completely unknown game if that's how long it takes to finish and still come up with a good result. But knowledge IS a key factor, so use it to your advantage. But understanding the ram watch tool is a good way to understand better how games work, so you'll want to try that one on some game (does mupen64 has it? I've been idle for too long)

I believe he had to hold "Y" after the text box appeared on the first video, which was probably telling him to hold "Y" from that point on.

goddamnit I would have never finished this if I had started it, it's wild. In one hand, the run excels at being a TAS, and completely detonates the game, but on the other hand, the game hasn't aged well at ALL, so did I enjoy watching this movie? yes/meh Should it be published? probably! Congratulations on this monstrous work, it looks very tight.

Clever movie, there's always a lot going on, I like the game's graphics and music and I loved the dancing! So yes. About submission text: I'm impressed, Ans. I wish you best of luck with your tool!

Meh vote, cuz I saw all places thousand times already, and this is not so entertaining. Btw, can't this strange speedglitch be used on the stairs which lead up to the upper part of the castle? Because then we could finish it with 0 stars.
haha, nothing personal, Yrr, but we should really start counting everytime this suggestion is made :)

I think speed is just one of the interesting things on a beat em up game. In my opinion, you should ultimately try to be varied, funny, rhythmic and fast, but have a good judgment of what is funner on each specific section of the game (speed/entertainment). Just my opinion though :) If I were to do this movie I'd try to do similar stuff to my Altered Beast TAS, but that also doesn't represent the goals of tasvideos.

NES Battletoads freezed on me on level 9 when having 2 players under incredible lag. Captain Comic resets the game if you go to the space level and jump to the top left.

The people who think we're cheating didn't read to understand our goals. Or they don't have a sufficiently open mind. Many people thought it "finally made sense" when they found out the smb3 morimoto run was tool-assisted, because it looked quite improbable to be played normally. The people who complain may think that we're trying to fool someone, which is not the case.

When we set a goal "to finish the game as fast as possible", there isn't much of a choice, is there?

Wow yes, I rarely read the submission texts, but this one got me going. The run seemed pretty solid, although I didn't like the fast text at the end (because it ruined the music).
