I thought you could bounce off the boss vertically and hit him on the way down, making the hits closer together. Think of a trampoline. Unfortunately it looks like his invincibility period is about 8 frames too short, so when I tried I landed inside him and died. Thanks for the explanation. It looked simple when you did it.
I see. Even if he wasn't invincible anymore, he'd just defend. And thanks :)

Can you manipulate the red dragon to pop up in a better position so you could hit him earlier? Also, can you hit the fat guy boss (in the machine level) faster by bouncing vertically off him, like you did on the last hit?
the dragon boss isn't manipulatable. about the fat boss: bouncing vertically? i'll have to re-watch to understand what you mean. ok: when you bounce off an enemy, you can choose to bounce high (hold down the jump button) or bounce low (don't hold any button). It makes no difference. You meant that i could be in the air so i could move faster? mickey accelerates faster on the ground than the air. Maybe you (and mostly everyone here) doesn't know how that boss works: - when you're far from him, he jumps closer to you, which takes a long time to happen. - when you get close enough while you're in the ground, he smiles and tries to hit you with the hammer. that's your only chance to hit him. - if you get close to him while you're in the air he defends himself with his arm, and it's impossible to him him. - so, in order to hit him, I had to move close enough (but not too close) so he started smiling as soon as possible, and that i could hit him in as few frames as possible after he started smiling.

I suggest that this shouldn't be possible for New pages, or minor edits merged with New page creations.
ohh oops I didn't realize the new version had it O_o doesn't matter much anyway. I'll research it and see if there's anything that would improve the movie. btw, I've found this useless glitch: http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/3196/mickeyglitchds8.gif

I don't see no reason to argue. The movie is tagged "Aims for fastest time". It's only natural that a faster movie is automatically better. It's not like the new movie was just some hex-editing. The author stated that every movement was done aiming for more acuracy, even if it doesn't change the movie length. Also, these players (Phil, Randil) usually aim for frame perfection, instead of trading entertainment for speed. The competition is perfectly normal.

REally. you have to touch ground to reset the counter or you just gets loads of 1ups. so you can actually do that and get back in position? i haven't seen it doen anywher but on a stair in smb1, in smb2j you hop higher on stomps and it's easier i think (but harder to find a setup!)
it wasn't done on stairs. throw the turtle shell at a far away wall and wait until it comes back. jump on it so it stops and on it again so you throw it back at the wall. repeat for 3 minutes.

Slow game, and nothing much happens. Substituting bosses with the pizza eating "game" is the worst... Purple idiot in bunny costume: I will eat... 2 pizzas! Red idiot in bunny costume: But I will eat... 3 pizzas! Purple idiot in bunny costume: Drat. I should have picked a higher arbitrary number. :( I vote no.
lol I agree the pizza fights are really dumb: - hey pick a number from 1 to 6 - hummm 5! - damn I was thinking 4, you won. But the thing about the pizza battles is finding the items during the levels. that is the items "II", "III", pepper and red pepper. Some pizza battles are impossible to win without proper items. And most of these items are hidden (you need to hit the air at the exact place to reveal it). This is one of those games where, if you haven't played it to some extent, you won't apreciate the TAS. Anyway, I wouldn't really mind if it got rejected, like I said, this isn't a TAS for everyone.

Simple rules are best. 1 life, nothing banned. Turtle stair all you want. Only valid for original NES version, not DX.
nah, not fun, each level would take 3 minutes. I could get over 100,000 on level 1-1 by repeatedly throwing the turtle shell at the wall for 2 and a half minutes. I agree that simple rules are best, which is why I haven't done a full run of it.

1) there should be separate hotkeys for different savestate slots (it's MUCH handier to load them with one buttonpress each, not to switch between them each time);
1.50 allows you to use a different hotkey for each savestate slot, but just "pick". Do you want also one "save" and one "load" for each slot too? Other emulators use this, but i never got used to it, i always use "pick" and then "save" or "load" to current.

Esc is not the pause key. There's a pause key. Go to config - speed options. - Ok, while it's paused, it actually saves and loads, but doesn't change slots. - if i hit alt+tab, the rom crashes. Even resetting the rom won't work, it needs to be reloaded. (the emulator doesn't crash) - "addams family values" just crashes as soon as the game starts (the rom crashes).

Are you sure it doesn't change the savestate slots while it's paused? I bet it's just that it doesn't display the messages because it can't refresh the screen. Did you actually test that?

Zurreco is right, i hate it when the total improvement isn't clearly visible in the submission text. i'll edit in 20 minutes with my impressions, but 7 seconds faster can't go wrong :) edit: wow, there were some smart moves there. I agree that it looks very polished. What's the total amount of re-records? It's over 29 thousaaaaaaaaand!!!

I see, so maybe 8 minutes! I guess that's a little more than I would watch, unless it's really fast paced 2 player action. Why don't you make a first stage for us?

Thanks, Trask! There's only one pizza battle which required 3 turns to win, and that was unavoidable, unless someone can find an extra "III" before that point. The rest of the battles are done in 2 turns :) I've put the video on youtube, with proper disclaimers and information. It may help the judges and voters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuT9gQnv1Ho

I think ending the movie as soon as it starts looping concludes it as "finished".

I think it would be hard to define the fastest path to reveal the coins, but i wouldn't mind watching a TAS, unless it's 50 levels long. I guess my patience would go as far as 20 levels tops. How many levels are there before it starts looping?

It has customizable hotkeys. It's just that they scattered throughout the different emulator menus. I would prefer "configure input/hotkeys" in a single menu. I didn't notice any difference in how heavy it is, to me it's very light, but I got a pentium 4.
