Classic music has been used in video games quite a few times. Watch the Captain Comic TAS.

Incredible run! Question: isn't it possible to avoid the tournament fights by releasing roadkill so he finds an exit? i've read this somewhere.

When we "remove" the lag in the emulator, we do it the same way as we would do if we were on the console. It's not our fault if the emulator is innacurate, it's our duty to shave off the frames.

How does emulator lag work? For the star times competition I've timed strategies on a console as well as emulators, and the emulators were faster because of the console lag.
The emulator is programmed to work as close to the real hardware as possible. if it lags in the videogame but not in the emulator (or vice-versa) that's a flaw that should be fixed.

That makes sense, but when you do the BLJ in BOB, do you press A every frame the elevator goes up or every other frame? If you press A every frame, the game thinks you're holding A so the BLJ doesn't work.
correct. every other frame is the fastest button mashing possible.

Games only know that you "hold down" a button when you press it for consecutive frames. This is because it doesn't continuously process instructions. It does so once per frame (this is not exactly how n64 works, but in general). It reads the input, then calculate then draws the screen. So if you released the button while the emulator is paused or not, it means nothing. The game can only read input when it goes to the next frame.

Yes, it's hard to notice the lag while you're making a complicated run as this. Only when you watch you'll say "oh s***!!". Unless you were also planning to be careful with that beforehand, which wasn't the case for either of us.

? frames are repeated in lag, so it's the same. it goes by the real time the emulator takes to run it. if it lags in the emulator, it counts as time. even if it didn't, that should be fixed. it's obvious what we want to minimize is the real time, nothing else.

It costs seconds... How many depends on how much lag he let in. I completely redid my Dire Dire Docks 100 coin route because of lag.

I think the minimalist run of mario 64 should eat frames for dinner, but it's your choice.

Something that always bugged me is CTRL+C closing the rom. this command should simply be removed. I use CTRL for frame advance, and C is the C button (zxc = abc). No, i shouldn't use other keys, this is what i use for all other emulators. The emulator should be configurable.

Any coins enemy drops move ramdomly and would desync (already have when someone hex-edited it for me, in LLL 100 coins it desynced on the first coin).

I encode the AVI beautifully before sending to youtube, so it uploads faster. I just thought it's less of a hassle to watch it online than downloading a m64 so you wouldn't have to fiddle with files / emulators. I thought i'd please everyone using youtube, I guess i was wrong. When i make a testrun of RR i'll post a m64 wip and that'll be the last one before submission. Right now i've finished TTC with a mistake on the 2nd star which i'm not gonna remake because it doesn't waste much time and there was heavy luck manipulation on the later stars. So i have 110 stars done now.

I always try to be as comprehensive as possible when naming my submission files, as I too think it's very annoying to not find the movie file amongst my thousand other movie files.

The walls probably aren't constituted of small blocks anymore. It must be just a straight continuous line.

Bag of Magic Food, that happens with me too if i open mupen64 + some h264 videos on VLC and other stuff. When i close those things and then restart mupen64, it stops giving me the errors. But it's a rare problem here. Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6 N-Rage`s Direct-Input8 V2 1.60 Jabo's DirectSound 1.6 RSP emulation Plugin these are my plugins, and i always run the emulator in windowed mode

I'm glad we think alike (almost) because i went on a production rampage and finished snowman's land already, along with 3 tick tock clock stars. About your comments: 97) yea, that was terrible, but it's much faster now, the star is 11.2 seconds according to sm64.com timing. 98) i've fixed that. after i push him, i do some jumps i don't even need to turn, i just do 2 jumps backwards and i'm right below the star when it appears. 100) yea, it worked nicely. great idea. 101) that was just a testrun, it's hard to optimize angles while thinking of other stuff 102) a) i've completely changed the route, but i still have a lonely snowman giving me 3 coins. i don't see how it would be faster to get that box inside the igloo, it's too much out of the way. b) humm different route? i must've missed this. but now i do a wallkick after jumping over the goomba, it wasn't slow at all. c) butt stomping to get the cap. exactly what i did :) d) collecting the last coins: i've done it with just 2 jumps now, it looks fast. the whole 100 coin is 45 seconds shorter than sm64.com speedrun record. On Tick Tock Clock i'm doing basically every star with the clocks hands pointing down (ramdom parts behaviour). This is conveniently what happens if i reenter the level as soon as possible, and it allows me to manipulate things inside the clock. Also, i'm using the red coins plataforms route for every star too. it's just so fast.

What's the point of this video? every pillar is hollowed, we're not gonna show mario inside every and each one of them are we. Anyway, i'd like some comment on the 100 coin route of SML, i'm at it now. 101 stars already done.
