this is the route i took: i don't know how going the other path could be faster. and to skip frames the only way is to load a savestate (while in read-only mode)

1)I take the other route for the maze star for the record (41 sec) in the star times competition. If i timed correctly your way is about 38 sec long. The way you get down to the maze from the hole is better in the 100 coins star (kick in the air). Not sure how much my record would be TAS'ed. Did you try it? I don't know what is the route you took, i haven't such video. I took the route that seemed fastest to me. 2)The Amaze-ing exit seems to be slower than 11 sec. I am sure that double jump up to the platform and long jump to the star is faster (like the 70 stars run from LeCoureur). humm i didnt know that route.. it's to be tested out. 3)Rolling rocks doesn't seem oprimal. It may just be me. Generally long jump and backflip is faster than triple jump. Instead of diving you can long jump and then backflip up to the star. I guess you may be right 4)I was surprised that you took the same route (minor differences) for the red coins. It seems we think the same way! ;) It need some optimizations though: Avoid the poll. Try to land directly on the platform after the wall kick. Wouldn't that hurt? Same as above: long jump after the 5th coin and backflip to the platform with the 6th coin (not sure if you get high enough). That doesn't go high enough You can long jump from the 6th coin right up to the platform with the eye! This will save 2-3 seconds! oh wow You can also manipulate luck and get the spider right under one of the boxes (maybe with the 7th coin), so that you don't hurt falling. This will save another 1-2 seconds. how would it prevent from getting hurt? i'm butt-stomping, would get right through the spider and get hurt anyway. also, manipulating that would take waaaaaaay too much time.. 5)The 100 coin route is good. You wait a sec or so in the platform with the eye. There must be a reason for that... if i tried to walk, mario wouldn't turn around at once, he'd start running the wrong way Can't you manipulate luck for the blue coin, so that you don't have to wait for it to fall down? didn't i just? you mean make it fall faster? On the way up with the platform can't you wall kick twice to get up faster (one off the wall and one off the celling)? Same for the maze star. which wall? the same i used? and then the ceiling? i guess that would be too slow, the elevator doesn't go up that slow, its usefull to avoid that extra movement. And finally down in the cave you dive in the water. Can't you use the slope where you dive (make your last jump a little further) to make Mario gain speed and get closer to the platform? that slope isn't headed towards the island. the longer i stay on it, the more mario turns away from it, and would be far off if i jumped from it. so i tried to trade a good distance/direction advantage there.

well, if you take a map of the maze you'll see it can't be helped!

In watch for falling rocks, doing the sliding over the central pit wasn't really faster because after the jump over the pit, i wasn't heading straight to the star (i had to turn around), which excluded direct longjumping/diving moves. Also, the rocks' randomness was getting in the way. If you watch closely at the first zipping, you'll see that i don't want to go farther, but the complete oposite? if i go farther i'll end up closer to the metal cap door, which is why i totally changed the direction of mario's velocity during mid-air. I could have landed on the ground instead of water, but mario would get hurt that way and that was much slower, so i landed near the land and then jumped in.

71 stars WIP total time: 1 hour 03 minutes slot 8 savestate from exiting Lethal Lava Land (rapidshare) comments are welcome. i don't think the zipping part can be done any better, because of 3 factors: - the velocity at the elevator needs to be so high in order to get through the wall - the angle at the elevator can't be too high, or else mario falls to the side of the elevator before going through the wall. - there are a lot of pits flying in the air after i launch from the elevator (from the sections above). if mario touches any of them, it's instant death.

what you are doing is speedrun. read the FAQ completely again edit: are you saving once only before each level or are you saving several times over a single savestate slot throughout the level?

Mazzic: that's taipion, already mentioned in this thread. There have been a lot of discussion already about this, for example here (youtube) and here (google videos). I can't believe nobody mentioned these links.

this is similar to Nach's game. amazingly low re-record count... and it doesn't seem sloppy at all but i also wonder what's the point of this... sure, an avi would be like 6 mb, but is it worth the trouble? i fast-forwarded through 80% of the movie

I didnt understand much that happened, besides the long boss fights, the run was good and fast due to your discovery. Voting Yes.
My discovery was that it's possible to finish the game without the sandals, plus a lot of little tricks and shortcuts. But the fact that left+right has effects had been brought up somewhere when zelda 2 movie was made (or being made, can't remember well). Also, Morrison had recently "discovered" the left+right trick too, which may have triggered their intereset in seeing this done. I only started the run because I bought the cartridge and finished the game for the first time. Then i watched Arc's run and saw it was improveable.

have you tried making one of the characters low on health, and then try to kill him, and then get out of the way so the move hits the boss instead, like i did on rat blarg in level 5 of my battletoads run? i think it looks good speedwise, i would only have liked more action on the waiting areas of level 1. Levels 2 and 3 on the other hand were quite entertaining.

100% chance he is brazilian. anyway, you have made a speedrun, this site is for tool-assisted timeattacks. read this: http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html or this, in portuguese if you have orkut: http://www.orkut.com/CommMsgs.aspx?cmm=1251364&tid=2456929124632312449

It won't be hard to do it, and yes, it'll be very usefull. The elevator in whomp's fortress is useless because there's gap between it and the wall, so i can't push against a wall while it's going up...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4573776281201886113 needless to say, it's unassisted. 131 kills after a loop had been reached on 95. then i started to play around and got killed. i'm posting this here because i had a lot of trouble to kill even 30, and then i found that the tatsumaki senpukyapu clone is a great move to play safe, so this video may be interesting to some people having same trouble getting ranks better than "C".
