Here is a WIP that finishes the bowser stage 18 frames faster than spezzafer's. Looking back at both movies, i think spezzafer's look a little more impressive because he rotates the camera so much (so it looks like there is more going on). It also plays the bowser and gets the key, but slower than spezzafer. He manipulated or was lucky that bowser did a hand attack at the very beggining of the fight, and i couldn't replicate it. This saved him several frames. I must try to get it right, if anyone knows how to, let me know. http://rapidshare.de/files/16672174/SUPERMARIO64-FODA-120starsWIP-v73.zip.html there is a savestate for slot #8 that starts at the bob-omb-battlefield first star. (CHECK "READ-ONLY" WHILE PLAYING THE MOVIE).

Yes, the level of total game domination in this video is so great that it's not only impressive, it's very funny. We now have on fceu a tool for memory watching, thanks to luke. I hope such a thing is implemented in other tasing emulators as well. It's very usefull. I too think it deserves a star because it's so obvious that this is not an unassisted speedrun.

It's a 2 years old post, so it would probably be gone sooner or later.

Impressive discoveries. You just learned how to fly, or almost :) I'm looking forward to a whole run now.

This is the Game Plan - Nintendo 64 - Mario 64 thread. I believe it refers to discussing the TASes. + what asteron said. I'm gonna start a new thread after i'm done with the first bowser and i'm gonna name it better than this one. I agree that "Mario 64" is a bit vague and misleading.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the mario 64 TAS. It would take me just a few seconds to find the castle cannon of mario 64, try searching for "castle" + "cannon" + "mario 64".

I havent beaten the game in so long, or even got more than 80 stars recently, but i cant remember how to open the cannon outside of the castle. The last time ive fully beaten the games was like 3-6 years ago. Im not exactly "pro" so could someone please tell me?
Yes, it's on the internet. Try searching for it.

I think you can use any, but in case you're wondering, I've been using these: Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6 N-Rage's Direct-Input8 1.60 Jabo's DirectSound 1.6 RSP emulation Plugin

I think it's fair. You've put so much effort into maintaining the site, i don't think it's wrong to get some money to help keeping it that way, or improving it. Also, google ads are really discrete.

Phil, i don't remember "strike a pose!" in the SNES version, so maybe YOU should have read more carefully. And genesis doesn't suck, maybe you suck? how about that? If you think genesis games aren't good enough for the site try to convince bisqwit to stop accepting submissions for it. But as long as genesis submissions are allowed, i think that it should get more respect.

I don't know why it's so hard to see it. It's no mistery, really... Only like 20 bullets (arbitrary number, just making a point) can be on the screen at any given time. If you press B while there are 19 shots in the screen, your spread gun will fire only 1 bullet. It's OBVIOUS

K, I've just seen this video and have to ask. Could this be done on a console and is there anyway of doing this without tools besides the recording one of course?
yes it has been done similarly by speedrunners (18 minutes movie i believe). Repeating this exactly is possible, but unlikely because it involve precise control.

If you have trouble pushing buttons quickly just lock your fingers into position and tense the muscles in your forearm tightly so that your arm naturally vibrates. You should be able to hit the button like 20 times a second.
I believe the world record for a human pressing a button many times a second is something of the 20 times / second. My own record is 10 times a second and i considered myself blazing fast, untill i hear about the record. So, i doubt he can do 20 times / second... And it's not needed, especially with the way you need to hold the controller holding Z and everything. I think around 8 is more than good enough.

brazilian? Load the rom and just load the savestate (no movie). see if it's at the point you stopped watching. Maybe you're loading the wrong state slot number, or someone has saved a state over your state while not watching the movie.

Thread update. Detected what affects the type of pizzas the enemy gets at the pizza battle: - the types of pizzas change every 64 level frames (that is every level seconds). But the enemy may choose these pizzas in 2 different ways, which happens every 32 frames, explained later. - the hundreds and thousands of the score also affect the pizza cards set the enemy gets. I didn't check the ten thousands, but the tens doesn't affect it. So, with the same score and clock, and the enemy will get always the same pizza cards set. How he picks the cards: - each level second is divided into 2 parts of 32 frames. If the level finishes in the first one, he ALWAYS tries to get the 1st and 3rd column of his cards set. If the level finishes on the second set of 32 frames, then the enemy will ALWAYS try to get the 2nd and 4th column cards. - the enemy shows an animation of the hand passing through all his cards once, and then he starts the real card picking at the top row, first chosen column (1st or 2nd, depending on the 32 frame rule). This is a slow animation, so picking the top row cards is much faster. - when the enemy says "the area champion goes first" you have to press "A" to continue. This is how we can control which exact card he will get, by delaying the A button. Every 2 frames delay, he will pick the next card, and so on, untill repeating in 16 frames. - The only way to make him pick the card that is not in the chosen columns, is by making him pick a card that has already been picked in the chosen column. This way he will skip to the directly next card on the next column. ----------------- Jumping or using magic as soon as the level starts is possible. ----------------- Due to this more in-depth pizza battle manipulation i've decided that killing some enemies would be best now, since i'm going for fastest time. But it's getting kinda hard to determine which score is the best to get for the amount of fixed time i take to finish each level. ----------------- savestates from Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru work (kinda) with yo! noid and vice versa :) i've been thinking of trying with other similar games and see what happens.

I haven't watched, but i'm almost too sure that 2 player is slower because the both players don't start on the same position on the level, so there is always someone behind, compared to the 1 player. or i could be wrong, if the new player 2 starts ahead instead of behind. Also, famtasia has different timing and less lag, right? that could be part of the cause.

I don't know i didn't watch rad racer. I've never played Rad Racer. I'm a F-zero player, and this movie is obvious.

"and also some minor optimizations that'll impress the F-Zero run/speedrunner (the contact with the walls, some of the odd lines, etc.)" this doesn't impress me at all, it's the obvious
