The videos must be uploaded by someone with constant contact with the site, so that if there's any new run improvement, that person can update the video. Sadly, someone else uploaded the old smb3 video with no description, and i doubt he will ever remove it from there.

nice... now we could think of other games :) I've put 2 videos on top of each other like that, but it was mario 64 so the effect was different (i was comparing one of my stars to speezafer's). But this is cool.

I agree that there should be statistics for the amounts of times the input movie file was downloaded too (not just the AVI). Just mentioning because you didn't comment on it so maybe you missed it.

i was thinking, maybe you press "forward", then the game moves the bounding box only, and if it is in invalid position, mario doesn't move there, but that would make a 1 extra frame delay in movement, which doesnt seem to occur.

that doesnt explain why mario can't go to out of bounds areas. How does the game know mario can't go there if he's too far still? if i'm pushing against the outer region of the level, mario will keep pushing and won't go further, even though his bounding box is dozens of meters far from it.

Oh no, guys, don't worry, i already tested that it's faster with the trick :) It worked like this: - BLJ with enough speed to be able to get to the rolling balls area (if i didn't build enough speed, i'd appear at the white slope...) - Jump to try to reach the ground where mario would start running - If i am too fast, i can't turn fast enough, so mario goes flying through the tangent... - the way i found faster to lose speed was to do all that hoping while waiting for the rocks. I tried to hop a little more so that i wouldn't have to push against the wall near the warp, but i couldn't. I'll obviously try many other aproaches, but it'd be perfect visually to not stop the whole way up, even if it takes some extra jumps below.

According to my calculations, these 4 stars can be combined in 3 different ways, and here is the total rough time it took me to get them (it doesn't count castle time, its the summed level gameplay time): KTQ, MWTTS, 100coin + 8RC = 4:48 KTQ, 8RC, 100coin + MWTTS = 4:36 8RC, MWTTS, 100coin + KTQ = 4:23 All are improvable, but they seem to have a pretty big margin between them, so i'm positive that the last one really is the fastest.

29 on that avi Up to 26 are optimized, the last 3 ones aren't (27th is impressive, 28 and 29 are rough testing of the 100 coin route + KTQ race). Unfortunately, i don't think that method of going up the mountain to fight bob-omb king is the fastest possible... ordinary gameplay should go faster.

The gray bars are tiredness indicators: the more gray bars you have, the longer it takes to do each attack.

oh well that again :p you need to mark "read-only" when playing back the movie. since you didn't, you just erased the whole thing. try downloading again please.

I disagree with you all, the game looks very nice i don't know what's the problem with it (besides being a corporative advertising game) but hey it's got nice graphics, music, level design, gameplay... what else do you want? high-five! About the run, it seemed to me that it could have been better optimized, but a 55 seconds improvement isn't to be ignored, i'll vote yes. Also, i liked the playing style, it wasn't boring at all to watch.

Oh forgot to ask, how do you longjump to the island? i can't do it either from the top of the mountain or from that little wooden bridge near the top.... the island is too far

Nice ideas there. This is a rough route then mixing up all these ideas. Keep in mind i can't use the cap/cannon/warp during the race or else KTQ says i cheated and won't give me the star. the file comes with a savestate (slot 8) http://rapidshare.de/files/12649945/supermario64-foda-120stars-wip-v57.zip.html About the bob-omb king, i am almost 100% sure that simply climbing the moutain the old way (wall kicks up the shaft then warp hole) is faster than all that BLJ, but i'll test it out to be sure.

I can take coins before talking to him or i can take coins after getting his star. There's no way to talk to him, then get 100 coins star (which can appear anywhere on the level where there are coins) and then getting the KTQ star at the top of the mountain. I need to take the 100 coin star before the KTQ star, because the 100 coin star is the only one that doesn't exit me from the level. So there..

BLJ in TTC will be totally useless as it's a vertical level. At least that's what i think, but MAYBE it will be usefull on some really small fraction of it, which i seriously doubt... About the KTQ yea it's been suggested to me by Itstoearly on the IRC channel that going for the poles coins might be a good idea, and i agree. Problem is the 8 coins rings by the flower bed near the falling bubbles of water.. They were in the path from the poles to the metal balls area. I don't think i can skip them completely because there is no little koopa for me to kill and get a blue coin, so i'm scarce on coins in this level. edit: Hello Dom Dunc! welcome to the boards :)

Yes he is the slowest star in bob-omb battlefield. well except for 100 coins itself... he will slowdown no matter what route i do : / because i have to go to those 4 poles and spin around them, that's nowhere close to his racing path, so he'll slowdown.

sounds like a lot of moving. finishing as fast as possible is not the best way to go. to get 100 coins it takes way longer than the time waiting for koopa there.. so IF i do KTQ + 100 coins it would be: - talk to bob-omb - talk to koopa the quick - get as many coins as i can, far from the top of the mountain - finish the race - get more coins, get the 100 coins star - get the race star

old old topic. Ok i made a test movie that finishes it in 7:32 it uses a little glitch that is only seen in the last 5 seconds of themovie, but it saves 3 minutes. But it's just a test movie, it's not optimized. It would be cool if there were more shortcuts to be taken, then it'd be pretty interesting for submission. http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/captaincomic-v4.zip

test24 is the complete testrun that gets 120 stars. It was made even before the v1, i made it to test the route through the castle. Anyway, it was kinda impossible to get 100 coins + KTQ race, so what's left to test on that race is if it's faster to finish the race and then come back to the begginning of the level to talk to the bob-omb. That will be quite simple. What's giving me nightmares on bob-omb battefield is these stars: - 8 red coins - 100 coins - mario wings to the sky On my sloppy test attempts, i tried these two routes: - 8 red coins + 100 coins and THEN mario wings to the sky - mario wings to the sky + 100 coins and THEN 8 red coins both routes were pretty close in length, so i guess i'm gonna have to optimize both of them to be sure which one is faster...

Yea that's what i'm doing. At least for bob-omb king. About KTQ, i'm not sure if it's faster to do 100 coins + KTQ or 100 coins + 8 red coins. I'm testing both routes...

It seems that you were so impressed then that the main character was probably a paladin but only had a club that you kept that memory for a long time.
