Thanks walkerboh, but nitsuja has worked a lot lately he deserves it much more than i do ^^ I am surprised at how many movies he made in such a short time and also he has time to work on those emulators, i totally agree to make him a ninja!

1) Mario Wings to the Sky This one is a paradox hehe 5) Somewhere Over the Rainbow 6) 8 Red Coins on the Clouds level well these really seem impossible, unless we find out how to double jump in the air or something 2) Eye to Eye in Secret Room 3) Collect the Caps... 4) Into the Igloo yep these have a chance of someday becoming a cannonless capless star your page is very nice, i didn't know about the hidden extra life in whomp's fortress' tower! you can do a funny move on that hole if you duck and do continuous backflip inside of it :) BLJ doesn't give extra speed though, the ceiling is same height as the plataform to the right of it. i also didn't know about that teleport... edit: sorry about this edit, myles might miss this one but... the post count is increasing too fast in this thread. ok anyway, how do you count in seconds the times for speedrun, where exactly do you start to count? because i'm watching a video by Myles of "to the top of the fortress in 0:18" and it looks way slower than the TAS... i counted starting from the last frame the screen is 100% white untill the first frame mario touches the star. But come to think of it, the TAS being 0:15 maybe it's the right way to count.

I did the best i could on that stage, remade it a lot of times already, i don't see the point of going back for it. This is a movie that is close to 2 hours long, it has to be completed some day i hope not too far away. The strategy on that stage wouldn't change, so the change wouldn't be noticeable by anyone anyway so i don't see a good cost/benefit factor on this one.

what are those TAS times you are refering to? E: anyone who read this what was standin here before:nevermind watched your run. damn nice!
I'm comparing to the best TAS time known (my time). Those are the stars i went for so far on my optimized run. FILIM0NAS: yea.. impressive times there i wonder how many i'll be able to beat. Why didn't you include the secret aquarium star on the hard list? My star seems to have been slower than the best known time. Anyway. Nice chalenge, me likes it :)

No it's showing a time horizontal axis disguised as pirates. The only graph i've seen was the one i made in the battletoads 2 warpless thread.

I haven't stopped to count my star times yet, so that page really is not usefull to me but it sure will be interesting to compare after the run is done. Also can you name the star you think will be the most impossible to beat (should be a really short time star i suppose) and i'll see what i can do about it :) edit: At the cage star, using that page's timing, my star is 1075 frames long or 17,91 seconds. I plan on remaking it anyway since i didn't take an optimal straight path when flying.

I might take a shot at it on the emualtor later. BTW, how do they "dump" his movie or even record it? huh?

Holy crap! I can't believe you didn't blast away the wall. Just so I'm clear on this, using the owl to get into the cage was only faster because you didn't have to open the cannon?
I guess so. I didn't try the cage star without opening the cannon on that same star.

Don't get your hopes too high, this was a burst of productivity i have tons of stuff to do untill march, i don't think i will make too many more stars untill then. Hey i just read in gamefaqs that ameba2 read my blast away the wall discovery and he could reproduce it on his console :) that was quick hehe

The test run is 2 hours and 10 minutes long. The way i did whomp's fortress would make spezzafer's run 16 seconds faster. edit: it's 1:42.7 faster than the test run so far. Guybrush: i put a link there to a new savestate. sorry for the trouble.

http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/supermario64-foda-120stars-wip-v38.zip Only missing the 100 coin + 8 red coins star, i'm posting this because i've made every star faster than spezzafer's + the "blast away the wall" star is now officially a cannonless star. thanks blublu, here is a working savestate (slot 9): http://rapidshare.de/files/11686142/sm64savestate9-v38.zip.html

This movie is better optimized than all of my movies, i'd say it's rockman style optimized, that's why the high re-record count. I wanted a feature that i thought would look cool in the video but would waste like 10 seconds so it was voted that we shouldn't add it XD that was getting 999 coins :P well, we were aiming for fastest completion so there was no room for "taste" entertainment, so it was natural that we needed to be frame eaters. But there are still imperfections in the run, it's probably gonna be remade for submission.

1) You can long jump some frames earlier in the very beginning, so that you have more space for the backflip
Well, this method wasn't slower than spezzafer's, the thing is it doesn't matter when i jump, because i will touch the plataform as soon as i reach it (the height of the longjump barely fits there) and the backflip is only doable after mario stops sliding. I'll try changing it a little to see if if it's faster some other way.

2)You miss the bob-omb buddy
How so? i fall from the longjump between him and the cannon.
FILIM0NAS wrote:
3)Try to get to the top of the fortress using your method. It may be faster, because you can reach the moving platform faster. If it is equal to the previous method, use yours instead. Or use my method: Triple jump up to the slope to get to the platform with the whomp.
Humm, yea didn't think of that, it may be faster indeed, thanks

4)The 100 coins route: a)See if you can get the blue coins first, then do your trick up to the platform with the coin ring and then find a way to get up to the whomp. b)You leave in total 7 yellow coins in your way. Leave the first 5 coins and get less coins from whomp by jumping on him. If you get the blue coin from the piranha-plant you may leave the coin-ring in the water which slows you down.
Good stuff too, thanks!

Thanks all for quick replying! let me see if i can answer everything: - About the princess secret slide, yes it would be overall faster to do double turning, but then i wouldn't be able to set a world record. Since i need to go there twice i had already planned to do both strategies. - About the 100 coins, thanks for the tips i'll try those next time. For that plant i don't get the coin i think i'll do like curtis: i'll kill it, get that red coin above the thwomp, then come back for the blue coin and then go to the islands. So that way i can jump straight to the red coin at the start of the stage directly from the islands. We'll see how that goes. - Savestates are huge, yes it's safe for you to make a savestate contained in the previous WIP because i didn't remake it. I know it would be good if i could provide savestates, but they are 1,5 mb maybe if i use putfile or something. edit: thanks dehacked for providing the space for the file here (it's savestate slot 9, right at the start of whomp's fortress) http://dehacked.2y.net/mario64-foda-wip-v30-savestate-9.zip

http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/supermario64-foda-120stars-wip-v30.zip this WIP plays whomp's fortress stars except "blast away the wall" which would be exactly like spezzafer's. In fact, most stars there look like spezzafer's. But i think i found a way to use the "up the slope" trick to get the "shoot into the wild blue" star. What i have trouble here is the 100 coin star. The route seems very complex and hard to tell if it's fastest or not. I have 7 coins in my way that i don't take (1 from a whomp, 2 from the arrow shaped island and 4 from a rotating island). If i could find 1 more coin then i could skip some place with 8 coins, or change it somewhere else. Well, i'll remake the whole whomp's fortress later, and will leave the 100 coin star last so i can remake it one more time if we find a better route.
