Mechakoopa i still disagree with your "stopping the movie way before reaching the goal" because that way the car reaches the goal late, you understand? you can make it finish faster. About taking hits i think it doesn't matter, this game is easy to play normally without taking hits, so perfection is not there, it's in acceleration. I'm gonna vote "no" too because, despite the author efforts, this adds nothing much to the other submission. I think this would need a major change in gameplay, perhaps "kills all oponents, except trucks" would be a good goal, but still, there are better games to do.

Yea but sometimes i feel that judges don't think there's anything worth publishing on the queue while some runs are clear major improvements over already published runs...

As discussed on adelikat and angerfist's megaman 6 submission thread. I can agree with both sides there, as i had submissions that were improvements over older movies which were clearly publishing material but never got published, so i learned to see that this site is run by people who work a lot to make the site work but sometimes use personal judging for whether they should start encoding a submission or not. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just how things work here, so what i did was create a dirty little webpage so my runs can be viewed when i want to link to my friends etc. That's all, i learned to live with it.

That's how i did this trick, i was trying to get there, but i can only jump to where the coins are, and i can get the star if i do a backwards longjump and grab it below, but that is all 2 seconds slower than spezzafer's way. This one going to the boss is 3 seconds slower.

Now that i think of it, it can probably be used in the 100 coins star to get those 8 coins there.

Yea that post is really old, i'd have to re-watch it to see what i was talking about :) I think my first pointed "mistake" is that you could have knocked down an enemy by doing a head butt, but you did a kick combo, which was slower (he already had hp to drop dead, he only needed to be knocked down, which is faster to do with the headbutt, i think). But i don't know how i checked that... I may have been wrong there. I probably meant the chins at stage 3 yes. I've also managed to make one of the abobos disappear to the right of the screen at the end of the forest stage (just before entering the cave), when playing on my NES... he simply started walking there and never came back. I killed the other abobo and then i could enter the cave...

The tv displays 60 half frames per second (interlaced). What the emulator does is transform each of those half frames a full frame.

Isn't it faster to backflip from 2nd to 3rd treasure?
I did a backflip + B button and it was slower because mario has to do a little hop later, so i figured it'd be faster to stop and turn, but maybe a simple backflip would have been faster (big maybe).

When you begin running forwards, can't it be sped up by doing a Z+A jump? Because the running in the start looks slow to me, but maybe it deceives me.
I didn't do that because i thought i'd fall in the water, and i tested now, in fact i do, but still in time to do another longjump.. I measured how much faster it is to do with longjump and it's 10 frames faster, so, remaking everything would make it a little more than 1 second faster, which i just don't plan to do. That's an example of something i could have easily done, but there are many more ways to improve this that are very hard to do like more direct swimming... But it's too hard for me to make a perfect play of an analog stick. I try to make it the best i can, with the time i've got. But the reason i'm not gonna remake is because i had already released a "final" version and nobody pointed out anything, so i thought it was ok. I plan to release optimized wips and remake them only once, this is gonna be a very long movie and i don't have so much free time..

But while there's only 1 character on screen it doesnt lag, right. It takes a second or two for him to comeback...

That was just crazy. First i was surprised at how it worked to save time and then i couldn't find any mistake on the later levels. very nice. At the mine cart level there was a lot of lag that could be cut if one of the characters died, but you ran out of lives, so i don't see any problem with the run. yes vote!

Ok ok, 8 stars, all of joly roger bay done, i don't ever wanna see this level again! http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/mario64-foda-120starstaswip-v18.zip It's 1:15 minutes faster than the testrun, and it's 992 frames faster than my previous "final" wip... Next stop: princess secret slide.

When you jump out of the water the vortex pulls everything else but ecco. How do you plan to reach the top of the screen if there's that trigger before reaching it?

I like going through the game Capless myself, well, as soon as I can lose my cap in the Pyramid Level. I feel a Capless run will be truely interesting, since Mario would take double damage from everything, thus forcing the player to optimize their movements and actions. ;3
In a TAS, damage makes no difference. The 70 star run will have to wait untill the 120 one is finished, i think...

Must have been a password? Because that's exactly how you get into the tube, by jumping in the air on that very same scene, but later on in the game after going back in time with more powers.

I think it would be insteresting to see the fastest time possible to end a round in super street fighter 2 if player 2 is willing to cooperate :)

I believe it has frame advance, what it needs is record from power-on.

Doable in 1-2 beginning with leaf power, crucial component for speed is luck manipulation. Not very impressive, repetitive rather fast, and laboursome to do. (I've done it in real time on real console (well, at least until ~70 lifes before stopping voluntarily), so it's not a super impressive tool-assistead feat either.)
bisqwit, i think it's faster to do it in the fortress with those turtle skeletons

They change the roms names quite often, so if you have an old emulator it probably won't run new version of the roms. We would need a latest version of FBA and patch it (fba still gets updates? or not? if not i don't know how to proceed..)
