TRH is the one who seems to need moderation. It only shows the kind of maturity that goes in the speedrunning community, in general. If they want to make their runs more different than ours, they can start labeling their runs as "legit speedrun" on every avi they make. That's a good solution.

Isn't that an accurate description of what an emulated superplay run looks like? I don't even mean that in a bad way. I myself think it's both accurate and cool.
No it isn't accurate. have you tried making a TAS yet? at super mario bros you don't fight bowser there because you're not playing the game. You're playing by other rules. It's like a completely different, strategy game. It's almost a puzzle. In making a TAS you are presented with a chalenge, then you think and find solutions for it. The tools are merely part of the rule. As in playing with a controler is part of the rule to speedrunning super mario 3.

I still think that cyborg resembles more a robot than a human. Why not call it "steroids speedrun" i like that more. edit: sorry to bring it up again, but this thread has 11 pages of discussion over what these things should be called.

I think tool-assisted speedrun is the most accurate term. "Cyborg run" is depreciative, in my pov. Why because it has nothing of robotic in the runs. They are made by humans who think for themselves. Only the rules are different. Making a tool-assisted speedrun involves thinking only. If you say that "thinking" isn't a human atribute, then it gets philosophycal. TASes are as human as it gets. Some will disagree. So we can't get into that spec. If you want to name them "theorethical speedruns" i like it much better. Because that's what they are. Possible, but unlikely. I apreciate you coming here to talk about it, but it has been discussed over and over. I hardly ever see hatred from the TAS community over the speedrunning community, so i don't see why there should be the opposite. Many people i know prefer speedruns over TASes, so there you go. Only those who want to be fooled will be fooled. We write with all the letters "this is a tool-assisted speedrun" on the AVIs. You can't help if people are ignorant and can't read. It's not like they have to search for the info, it's SHOWN to them that it's not a legit speedrun.

This isn't like circus charlie at all... I'll see what glitch you found. hummm that's more like the bad physics of the game. although you could try to explore it to make it usefull in some way.

This would be good if the emulator emulated it perfectly, which it doesn't. Not only it displays an intro screen, it also has to remove a lot of lines of pixels which is totally undesireable (but understandable since it's the gba screen resolution)

TAS of Four Swords? Did you mean that?
No! that's a 4 players game. I didn't see the country teams idea going too far...

I think it loops forever. It's better to wait for final burn alpha emulator and do a TAS of the game Elevator Action Returns.

The idea has been brought up on the Team Canada thread. It should be an 1 player game.

i had played those games in shareware version back in 94. didn't like jetpack much, i was more into dangerous dave, electro body, dynamo, jazz jackrabbit, bats... but this squarez deluxe is actually good. jetpack reminds me of lode runner, which i had played too much already.

like i said, any player who wants to participate can sign up for the voting. Then who will participate should be decided by voting. Some players might not want to participate, so there's no use to vote for them if they haven't signed up yet. so, i want to sign up, so does bag of magic food. that makes 2 players :)

I think it would be best if the chosen game was a complex, but not long, 1 player game. So that everyone on a team can work on it alone, and the team would only do some talking and exchanging movie files. For the people to compose the teams, I suggest it could be done like this: - Players who want to participate would "sign up". - If more than 8 people signed up, then it would be made a voting to choose 8 people from those (choose the 8 players that you think would deliver a better quality TAS). - Then from the remaining 8 players, 4 would be chosen ramdomly to form 1 team, then the other 4 will be the other team. - Then the game name is revealed, and everyone should be aware to not talk about that game on the boards (leaving all the thinking to each team). - Set a final date for each team to deliver the finished movie (i think 2 weeks is good, so not too much time would be taken from the players, this is for fun afterall). When both movies are delivered, we can compare what was done, how much different the movies are (this can be very interesting) and probably someone merge all ideas from both movies and make the final version for publishing, unless one of the movies is considered perfect. well i like the idea :)

I agree, do whatever is fastest. Who would have thought it would be faster to die at some point? it's unexpected, which is good.

Yes but he let some of the scenery to be destroyed last, so he had to wait for it to crumble before doing the victory dance. That's what it looked like.

i think the goals were these: 1. Takes no damage/deaths 2. Destroy all scenery 3. Uses no warps/passwords (there are none) 4. Beat the game as fast as possible Unless taking damage, or not having to destroy all scenery would make no difference. But i see some time was lost destroying scenery. So that was a priority versus beating the game as fast as possible, not the oposite. Did you end the recording as soon as possible? it didn't look like. You input your name and then you go back to title screen to finish the movie. Should have ended upon entering last letter, i think.

hmmm i remember entering the object corners like that, but when i did it, mario got stuck (could only release it by jumping). did you do anything special so he would zip through? or was it because of the pipe? or is my memory just getting worse?

i think it makes no sense to visit all rooms, it should be just "gets best ending as fast as possible". yea i too was kinda hoping that you would finish it... maybe you only need a break from it. do it like they said, play through normally without slowdown, just to decide what is the best route. that shouldn't take long. then you start over and do it optimized.
