but the time saved by doing all of the DDD stars before entering bowser#2 is so small that if even 1 pole could be used to make it faster, it would already be better to do them after bowser#2

yea i thought about doing that with the 100 coins in KTQ race, but i figured that the red coins route takes longer than the KTQ race. i too believe that KTQ moves faster if mario is ahead of him, but like i said, at bob-omb battlefield i was just fooling around.
i'm not sure, but i think that when you get 1 either star from DDD for the first time, it automatically opens up bowser#2. but it might be just "board bowser's sub", i'll test it.
Yea, of course i'll do 12,4 on PSS, if i can't do better than that. But i think it wastes time overall, because mario has to position than start the race sideways. If so, i'll get 12,4 only once, and then i'll go for whatever is fastest in frames.

he meant racing koopa the quick star.
but about the princess slide, i can get there at least in 12,4. but in order to make the star not appear, would have to get there at 20 or so (i don't remember well). so its not worth it to delay so much

Yea to everyone pointing out optimization tips, don't worry, this is just a run i'm making to clear major route questions like when to get vanish cap, which rooms to visit in what order, etc. i haven't used re-recording or slowdown to get best angles or timing, i'm just "getting things done" so i'll have something to compare to when making the final run, especially the 100 coin routes.
About getting the 100 coin star in WF along with the "shoot into the wild blue" star, i don't think that's a good idea, because that is such a direct path star, contrary to the 8 red coins where mario has to walk all over the level, so merging 2 stars that require walking through the entire level is the fastest way.
I'm currently fighting 2nd bowser now, i forgot to get the 8 red coins there XD so i'm remaking that level now. 1 hour into the game, about 60 stars, all caps acquired.

well, for the test run, i'm done with the main hall rooms. the route was this:
-JRB 8 stars, choose exit inside the hole in the wall
-princess slide 1 star
-whomp's fortress 7 stars
-princess slide 1 star
-tower of wing cap 1 star
-cool-cool-mountain 7 stars
-bob-omb-battlefield 7 stars
-bowser#1 1 star
total 33 stars in 35 minutes.
the bob-omb battlefield stars weren't really planned, it was more like me playing ramdomly with the game, so never mind it's strategies.
but cool-cool mountain was played with some degree of planning so it can be discussed.

they give you 5 coins if you kill them (stomping on their back once). but what i did was get 2 coins without killing him (and he still gave me 5 coins after i killed him).
what happened was this:
i backflip jump just before he started falling, then in the air i pressed Z and while he was falling, mario got stuck on its top surface, then after he fell on the ground mario was sitting on him and that generated 1 coin but i was pushed away to the ground. i jumped on him (without attacking) to grab the coin and that generated another coin. then the enemy got up, i waited for him to fall again and killed him, gaining 5 coins.
oh humm, it seems that they really do give 1 coin each harmless jump on their back... :P

what i do when playing normally is:
- hold forward and press Y = throw the enemy at the screen
- release the d-pad and press Y (close enough) = bash the enemy on the ground.

right.
i've been thinking here, and there are many factors that make an influence in the total time saved by using the door glitch of JRB, but i really think it's faster that way now. because otherwise, one would have to walk towards bob-omb battlefield twice from the center of the hall. That alone would make up for the time lost doing the glitch.

i don't think the door opening animation is THAT slow, so i'll test both
but i think that exiting through the wall in JRB should be like this:
- JRB exit -> slide -> whomp's fortress -> slide -> cool-cool mountain
hmm doesn't seem to make any difference, but at least it doesnt show the same level twice in a row

if you go from whomp's fortress to the slide for the first time, how do you plan to enter the princess slide the second time? that's what i'm saying.
the way i have it, i already go from whomp's door to the slide once. but for the other time i go from the JRB door to the slide. like this:
- JRB door -> slide -> center of main hall -> whomp's fortress -> slide -> center of main hall -> cool cool mountain.
what you are suggesting is:
- JRB exit -> whomp's fortress -> slide -> slide?

the problem is, walking from the center of the main hall to the princess slide is longer than from JRB door to the princess slide, that's how it's related to what you said.
