ah, i see... when I TASed this, i felt like after i got the tripples junctioned, everyone died with pretty much just one hit (except some bosses with one renzo), so it feels like it would be unnecessary. it would be useful on the last boss though, because that one (ultimecia) has a lot of health, that i don't think it even died with two renzokukens. i think renzo is faster than irvine's limit break.

The canister ammo is used for Irvine's limit break. It has a much higher power rating than the normal ammo.
it seems a bit slower than normal shot though, and i'm not sure there are so many boss fights where it would be needed, so i'm not sure if it would be a good idea if you have to get into an unnecessary fight to get it, but you probably know better.

Didn't seem much faster. The magic animations take some time. When you have 138 HP, wouldn't it be faster to do a critical hit with Quistis? It might be good to have the HP as 1 for future fights to get the rough divide every time, but when it would waste time, I wonder if it can be prevented when the HP is so low.

Recording from current memory cards was a little different than I remember it being the older PCSX versions. When I start recording from current memory cards, it switches the current memory card with "movie001.tmp" which is empty, so I have to select the correct memory card (Mcd001.mcr) from the menu while recording. Seems a bit strange, but maybe that's how it's supposed to be. Well, the important thing is that it works. I think hardest difficulty is usually the most interesting to TAS. Most games are TASed in hardest difficulty. After looking into it, it seems like I 'only' have to run the game twice to unlock the hardest difficulty.

Awesome, it works now :) You fixed that one very fast. What do you judges think about starting recording from a memory card btw? Is it acceptable? It's the only way to access the hardest difficulty in this game (except save state or beating the game like 5 times).

Works both ways.

Can you play the game at all in PSXjin? If so, let me know how (steps) to get it to work.
The game works just fine, if you enable the CPU fix, but the playback of movies doesn't work.

I mentioned drawing the fire earlier in this thread (page 3). Since you missed that you probably missed what I said about renting the car too. That could also be useful if money doesn't become an issue. Demi is very useful in Diablos, yeah... though I think it was still the longest fight in my TAS. I noticed you had a video about NORG on your channel. Have you started doing Disc 2 yet? Would be interesting to know how much faster your run is. I had 3:22 ingame time when I accessed the menu with Zell in the prison.

Have you tried enabling it via the hotkey? It was set up to trigger inside the playback of a movie via a hotkey, and that is actually recorded. Let me know if that works for you, otherwise, I will look into it further.
Tried it. Still crashes.

The crappiest, sickest, longest and strangest video I've seen on youtube so far: Link to video I don't understand why someone would waste time doing something like this. He must be bored out of his mind. He also had a video where he read the Bible for 20 hours. This guy has some funny videos though, like the PSP sucks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ned-PbNo19U

I'm not sure what save states you mean, but I think Wyster has save states for some of the levels he did.

I think the one which loses less time would be best option. Probably #2... I don't know how much slower the loading times in #3 is. Watched your video. You could try a combination of both laser eye and renzokuken. Squall would almost become critical if you just laser eye him once. I think getting critical hits was hard in this game. Is it just a matter of right timing? Have you tried if it's faster to take down the HP by drawing fire, because with luck you can do 150 HP damage? I did that in my TAS.

How can you change something that doesn't exist? It doesn't have video plugins!
Would be nice to have the option though, like in mupen64, because other plugins like Pete's DX6 D3D (or one of the OpenGL plugins) looks much better for 3D games, because you can have high resolution and anti-aliasing for polygons. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8nUGfQSpjw&hd=1

Is it possible to a Parasite Eve 2 TAS with this emulator? The game doesn't seem to work without the CPU fix in the Configuration > Options, but that automatically gets unchecked when you start recording a movie, and if I enable it while recording, the emulator crashes then if I try to play the movie later.

Also, you should note that Darkwasabi used Fastspeed CD option on his PS2, so while you have the exact same ingame time, yours is much faster, by ~20%, from what I gather.
Yeah, I vaguely remembered that there was something like that, so I mentioned it in the description. The Fastspeed CD only makes the loads between screens faster, right? But given how many there are it could still add up a lot of time. I noticed that the sounds went all wrong when I uploaded it on youtube, so I'll upload a new version if I can get the sounds right.

Nice way to handle the Garden fight, nfq. I didn't know that all you needed to do was visit the Library, Training Center, Infirmary and Quad.
thanks. i have a memory about possibly being able to skip the infirmary too, but i could be confusing the memories from the testing i did there

A TAS I made of this game a few years ago (CD1 is missing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o513qzk4dLA sound desync fixed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHgJ8x2V3rc Proper Playstation TASing wasn't available yet so I was limited to using save states (one slot), slow motion and autofire, which is the reason why menus and such things don't look very TAS-like.

I have no idea how this happened. I can't seem to reproduce it.
Darkwasabi, the one who made the best unassisted speedrun might know, I think he also managed to skip that at least once.

I would have enabled the "force bilinear filtering" to get better non-pixelated 2D icons (like the mines, bullets etc). Also, the edges seem to lack antialiasing, but otherwise it looks good. Isn't someone going to upload this to youtube btw? Would be interesting to see all the comments like 'omg, hax'.

Didn't this get accepted on SDA because some things like the gun is modded? Very impressive hax in any case... just kidding. Impressive run (looks tool-assisted), and good game also. It reminds me of the movie Cube and Hypercube. I especially like the level design after the test chambers and the large deserted/empty areas. I bought the orange box a couple of months ago, and just finished portal for the first time yesterday. It took me about 5 hours to finish. Haven't tried the advanced challenges etc yet. I should have bought hl2 when it first came out though, because it would have looked more impressive. It still is though. When I was playing this, I thought this might be a fun game to TAS some day, but after seeing your run, I feel like it's already as impressive as it will get. Only the insane quality torrent has seeds... I would have taken the high quality because 3.43GB takes hours to download. Awesome ending :P I'll have to watch some of the commentary vids, to make more sense of what happened. Funny when the AI says the next test may take a very, very long time, but you finish it in just 3 seconds :P

Finished one of the extra levels: WAR! - Perfect Agent - 0:47 6 seconds faster than WR. Normally backstrafe is slower, but I used it at the beginning so that I would be able to boost without losing much life. If more doors would have been open, this could have been 46 or 45, but I don't know if some doors can be open like in some of the normal speedruns since they may not have time to open them if I go too fast. I used Napalm so some graphics are better, but Rice has the best looking text as you saw in my 25 WAR.

However, does this also affect the running speed, or does it only affect how many frames per second the screen is updated? (In the vast majority of 3D games the framerate does not affect the playing speed.
It probably affects the playing speed. I noticed once when I slowed down the game that I walked much slower. Wyster or someone could easily check this with the speed RAM address... just walk without lookdown first, then load a state and walk the same thing with lookdown, and see if the speed increases.

About the run i found that the level progression is decided pretty early in the run(after speech skip roughly), which is bad since i'd have to redo most of the level(again...)
i went to the end of the level after you threw the bug and it went to next level without any problem (i didn't use the falling glitch though, because it's annoying to do), so i don't see any reason to redo anything. and going to extraction shouldn't be any problem because on your previous TAS i was able to get the game to go to extraction without reset if i just manipulated luck at the very end of defection. there could of course be something i'm missing though.

Ok, I got it to sync now, and the resolution didn't have to match yours. People always complain that mupen is annoying because the plugins have to be correct for movies to sync, but with Napalm even the settings in the plugin have to be correct :P

I noticed that you're using v1.1 version of the game. Any reason for that? On tasvideos they usually prefer v1.0 unless the other version is better somehow. It could be worth testing if the v1.1 or the European version wouldn't have the problem with advancing to the next level without reset. Edit: cant get it to sync... maybe some of the settings (like the resolution, framebuffer emulation etc) in Napalm have to be the same as yours.

I think the native resolution is 320x240, but I've heard that on the menus it's a little higher.
