I would like to see the SuperEagle Kreed SaiX2 or whatever its name was back again. It was the best filter. Why has it been removed from newer gens versions? The EPX filter doesn't really look good, even the normal interpolated mode looks better. I would also like to see what state I have selected, so I don't have to go to the menu every time to check it, because I keep forgetting it.

i made a blackthorne TAS a few years ago. i think it's only a few seconds faster than the existing TAS though, but maybe there are some other new stuff there. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/417482927/nfq-Blackthorne%20(U).smv i remember i found a glitch somewhere on level 2 which allows you to skip some stuff... like getting a key. i think it saved several minutes. somewhere on the level you could get hit by a guy while you were climbing on stairs, which caused you to fall through the floor to a place below it. i can explain it better or make a vid if someone needs it if they have gotten that far.

have you put it on youtube yet? i saw your 32x TAS, but the 32x version looks kinda weird because the character looks like he moves too fast.

Got it to sync for 970000 frames, which is probably as far as it goes. It desyncs at the lucky wheels, after it had synced for 160000 frames since the last reset, so the desync is probably not caused by the reset, but by those lucky wheels. Probably because of deleting frames from the movie, it changed the lucky wheels, although it's a little strange that it didn't cause any other luck factors to mess up. http://www.mediafire.com/?5imjrqxy2my When restarting the game, i noticed that it took a little more or less frames each time, so that probably has something to do with the desyncing. I was able to fix the reset-desyncs pretty fast when i noticed that pattern. Btw, thanks for the save states bad potato, i can watch the rest of the movie with them, because there aren't any more resets after the lucky wheels :) But still, I'm very confused why the movie only works for badpotato. It doesn't make any sense.

i edited the movie so that it syncs for 300000 frames or so: http://www.mediafire.com/?hhcnkjijzmj the reset (third one) after airs rock wind dungeon or whatever probably causes the desync (fuck, why did i have to reset so many times :P). if the movie works for you, feel free to continue editing it if you have time. i probably won't have so much time to do it for a while now.

by removing 49 frames from the beginning i got it to sync quite long now... until the next reset (75000 frames or so), so it's probably the starting/restarting of the emulator that causes the desync. isn't there any easier way to fix this than to edit the movie?

yeah, other movies work fine. i tried castlevania circle of the moon and advance wars black hole rising. while trying to edit the beginning with the TAS movie editor i noticed it says that system type is "game boy", but when i try to play the movie in VBA, "game boy advance" is selected by default and it can't be changed. maybe this could cause the desync, but it's weird that it doesn't desync for you.

still doesn't work. i've tried several older VBAs too, and another rom. could it be that you have some special settings on your emulator that makes it sync? it desyncs at the beginning after deleting felix name. it inputs B too many times.

How did you get it to sync? What VBA version did you use? It doesn't sync for me with the latest 1.7.2 v21 at least.

Wow, thanks a lot badpotato! Pretty strange that a converter could fix it. I tried it and it worked :) I wonder if my Golden Sun 2 TAS could be fixed with some kind of converter too. Yeah, the zombie dragon fight took a long time, because of low levels and bad characters. Later when I get Grenseal and Alen, boss fights become really quick because I can do like 2000 HP damage with their combo attack. The bribe glitch works for all bosses and enemies but I didn't use it because it would make the run so easy and boring :P Also, I think it doesn't take away any of your money. It's actually easy to do, even without TASing.

I found a better version of this movie file. It's playable, but it desyncs. Maybe some of you can get it to sync, or maybe it can be fixed by hex editing. Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?zmn4lqwmnyz

I left strafed backwards (c left and down) at the first guy. It makes it slightly faster, but being as fast as possible at the first guard doesn't matter because I can't get the falcon to come up fast enough (sometimes it seems to come up a few hundredths earlier). You notice that I shot Trent faster than the first guy (.65 vs .76), because my falcon is already up. Using R there makes it a little faster too. Hitting Trent in the arm wouldn't kill him, and probably not the first guy either.

Duel - Perfect Agent - 9.13: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5A6UX9ewy0 Pretty close to sub 9 but it's doubtful if it can be done. It's kind of random sometimes... sometimes falcon comes up slightly faster with the first guard, and maybe if you had luck Jonathan could run slightly faster. My previous PR was 9.23, so it's a tenth faster. 0:76 hits guard 2:81 (2:05) 3:45 hits jonathan (0:64) (I've been able to hit Jonathan at 3:43, but I still only got 5:50 when I got to Trent. With luck you might be able to get lower) 5:50 (2:05) 6:15 hits trent (0:65) 9:13 (2:98) I found a Duel save state from my old computer. I uploaded it here if someone needs it (all other levels are unlocked too of course): http://www.mediafire.com/?gyztyzzdtao

For me, I want to see a full TAS of: -Majora'a Mask "glitchless" -Ocarina Of Time "glitchless" And I'm sure that it is a very long run.....
it can be a little hard to determine what is a glitch though, because there are so many in this game. for example, is it a glitch to run backwards, because it's faster?

Does someone have a save file of PD with the Duel level? I'd like to TAS it a little, but it's annoying to get because you can't even get access to it with gameshark cheats using another emulator, because you have to collect all guns from all levels and then beat all the shooting range training stages.

yeah, subtitles would help. for example, i didn't understand what was going on at the bonus stages, because this game is so hard that i haven't even come so far, lol. voted yes. good game of choice to TAS, because bruce lee himself was so good at martial arts that you might think he was TASing. it's a little strange game though, because the fights last so long even with the fastest mode.

Just a thought here, but you are aware that changing settings will also change the bitrate? That is, to get equivalent quality at different settings, you need to also change the birate/quality factor setting. Just comparing the sizes of different settings won't do... x264 isn't ideal. Just changing some settings to better won't automatically reduce the filesize compared to worse settings. It may bloat the size, even. However, the encode will have higher VISUAL quality. But awesome tests, nevertheless.
since they use the quality setting (CRF), it should produce the same quality regardless of what settings they use. the difference will be in size/compression. if you used the bitrate setting, the difference would be in quality, but it's hard to compare quality, so it's better to use, uh... the quality setting, so that you can compare the bitrate/size.

Awesome improvement, man. I didn't really understand where you manipulated luck though, and I don't think "plays at the hardest difficulty" makes any difference in the bonus stages..

I made a Golden Sun 2 TAS (draft) 5 years ago, but I lost it because the computer broke, but yesterday I was able to 'recover' it using a program called testdisk. The vbm didn't work though because it's corrupted or something but maybe some of you know if it can be fixed, or if it's at least possible to know how long it was (would be interesting to know the framecount, but i think it was over a Million, so maybe 5 hours or so... june12edit: actually i found out that it was 6:30, and 6:01 ingame time). Because it's an insanely long TAS, it's 2.6mb, so I couldn't upload it to dehacked's microstorage: http://www.mediafire.com/?ndqm2nn5n4z (edit: the movie link in the post below is probably better) If you view the file in a text editor, there's some strange text like: "š?ÀØýûñ&cK GòÀÊ&m ¸¢n6g that zip believes the file to be text or binary, respectively; but if the file is encrypted, zipinfo notes this fact by capitalizing the character (`T' or `B'). The second character may also take on four values, depending on whether etc." I don't know if that's in all vbm files or just in this because it's been deleted and thus messed up somehow. There's also a bunch of stuff like " B B B R R R R R R R ’ ’ € € € € ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ "

What do game emulation settings have anything to do with MPEG-4 video encoding settings? It's a completely different issue.
lol, don't take it so seriously... i just think flygon seems like a good encoder, so i wanted to ask him, even though it's a little off topic.

As some may have noticed, I've been advertising that I've been encoding movies with a specific script that I've claimed is literally as tough as possible while having no quality loss.
good. so maybe you can make a proper encode of my Turok 3 TAS. the currently published movie has sound desyncs and lacks antialiasing and anisotropic filtering.
It's incredibly slow, but as far as we (The several encoders that I've discussed this with) are aware, it is the toughest possible attainable encoding script using directx264.
too bad we can't use another codec, like the msu capture codec, which is specifically designed for old videogamish content. it probably encodes 200 times faster and produces smaller files. have you tested if there's any difference with using "tesa" and esa? personally, i didn't notice any difference, except sometimes tesa even produces larger files (strange, i know). you also have subme 10 in your script, but i'm unsure if it's actually better than subme 7. i think the me range is too high too. 64 is usually enough, except maybe for really fast motion games.

That's actually a very interesting point and a slight coincidence, I will be making some test footages in the future demonstrating how well various settings works across certain types of footage (Shadow of the Beast being a notable run for these sort of tests, in my mind).
a lossless test movie of heart of the alien (http://tasvideos.org/1305M.html) might be good too. the game has such low textures and low framerate that it will be a lot smaller in lossless. the encode is 12.46mb, i made a lossless with that weird msu codec and it was 7 mb, but x264 will probably create a little larger file.

I found a cool thing that could have been used to skip the Opisthor boss on Level 3 (since it's a long boss, it would save over a minute), but the game crashes when I do it. By getting close to one of the bosses so that it hits me, I can be thrown over the wall to the place where I can enter level 4. The boss dies instantly when I go there even though I haven't shot it, but when it dies the game crashes for some reason. I wonder if there would be any way to prevent it from crashing?

NO, my life is perfect!!!!!! So why the fuck are you coming to this forum and saying that my life sucks just because I like TASes?! Oh, wait... you didn't claim that... you just asked a question, I apologize for reacting so strongly. Honestly though, I have to admit that think real life is unfulfilling, but so is unreal life.
Do you have a tendecy to avoid problems?
What the hell are you talking about? I don't avoid any problems.
Do you look for ways of escaping from stressful situations?
No, I don't you fucking aaa....... uh... actually I haven't had any stressful situations in years.
How long is the average speedrun?
From 2 minutes to 2 hours.
Why do you speed run?
It's a little fun sometimes, when I have nothing else to do it's a good way to kill some time.
I'm currently doing a paper on video games and would like to gather from data.
Yeah, sure you are, we all know you're lying and you're just trying to piss me off! Just kidding
