If it's so annoying, why does post edits have to be mentioned on IRC?

what? are you on longhunter already? post some wips. i'm not sure i understood your post, but were you actually able make that jump to the last key on level 2? that would be a pretty good time saver but i never managed to do that.

Can the last key of level 2 be wall jumped to from any point below (ie get to the key without diving down the long cavern that leads to the leapers)?
I've played around with this one some and haven't found a solution, but can the key above the level portal on level 4 be wall jumped to?
is there such a thing as grenade jumping in this game?
Also in level 4, can the checkpoint right before the second key be avoided at all?
i haven't been able to do any of these. but how can i ever be sure that something is NOT possible?

10 seconds vs. 30 seconds. hm..... I say skip the cinema, Joanna's humor isn't that great, and that's a cinema that I'm not particular fond of.
all cinemas in this game are great because they're so bad.

I can't even use a keyboard when I do a 2D game run because I'm not used to... use a keyboard.

It would take probably 6 hours of letting the emulator run through, and then triple that to encode to a manageable size.
Why encode it several times? Just encode the avi directly with x264 and it will 'only' take 6h. With quantizer 26 it becomes really small.

In Goldeneye guards can go through doors if you're not watching them.

good Shit, wyster! in addition to blowing yourself through the glass, you could have warped the door before the 3 guards and used 2.3 to open the elevator door. you might have got 4:02. post your wip of caverns if you want.
Shadow Byrn wrote:
So why are you doing this from these levels on? Why not start at the beginning and make it a full real deal and not just individual levels?
because wyster is a the-elite player, and they always play them individually. it's annoying to play systematically. it's better to do the level you feel like doing at the moment, instead of playing many boring levels just to do that level.

Seriously, I don't understand why they had to screw up this game. It's like they only did it because they felt like they should change it somehow to make it different. upthorns genesis TAS was still quite interesting though. funny glitch after beating the first robotnic :)

why do you fear getting personally flamed? what's bad about that? isn't "personally flamed", and "bad", just a bunch of words on this computer? just some combinations of letters? so what does it matter what this binary-code called nfq 'writes'?

automobili lamborghini is weird because it's only 4mb in size, all other n64 games are at least 8.

It's strange that I need the save states because I remember L4yer said that he didn't need any. I guess I'm just noob. On Statue I think it would have been a little faster to take the flight recorder from this spot: http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/813/frvn0.jpg

Your avi's are way too big, you should use much lower bitrate, compress the audio and lower the resolution (320x240). It looks really cool though, I've never seen supersliding before, and you must have insane patience to be able to do this with all those desync problems.

Here's the 86 frame improvement: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3231/TUROK_DINOSAUR_HUNTE%20%28USA%29.m64 After the teleport I don't know how optimized it is, I didn't try much. somehow i also made this deformed fusion cannon (although it has nothing to do with anything really): http://img350.imageshack.us/img350/539/deformedfctq4.jpg http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3504/deformedfc2uq0.jpg

Considering the positive response from everyone who saw the first run, as long as I make my run look clean and it shows some improvement, it should get accepted.
My run would have probably been accepted too, although I only spent 10 days on it. Many people seemed impressed by it.

I may get around to starting my new run in the next week, so in the meantime, anyone who wants to help, go through my current run with a microscope and find where I can make it faster.
You didn't do the "walljump 6" the way it was supposed to be done. You can save more time than that because you don't have to push the button at all. The stone thing doesn't have to be lowered, you can just walljump over the whole thing. But you have to remember to lose enough health before. You shouldn't use that pulse rifle guy to minimize your health. Maybe you could even start losing life on level 1. Because you don't use an analog controller your movements are often quite "digital" which loses time in some places. Most people do a testrun before doing the real run. Too bad you (and most people) have such little free time. I would have infinite time to do a TAS if I wanted to.

You should try and get as close to perfection as you can.
But not too close or you'll get tired of it and lose motivation and start deforming fusion cannons and stuff.

but overall it has been clean and well thought out.
well thought, but not well executed. i tried a little on the first level and was able to improve your run by about 80 frames already when i went to the first teleport. but i have no motivation to run this.
