the arrows required magic when i tried it with project64 and gameshark. however, i didn't have them on the B button. the light arrows don't require a bow, but they may still require since it seemed impossible to find arrows anywhere if you don't have the bow. i tried to buy them in the bazaar shop but the game/emulator screwed up. might be different in mupen64.

On facility, you could use four mines for boosting, one mine for the tanks and shoot the remaining tanks with KF7 and/or PP7.
What about this: http://rapidshare.de/files/23588197/backstrafe_boosting.avi.html
About your lookdown test, how can you be sure it was a fair test? Did you play exactly the same way both times? If you lost a second when not using lookdown, how do you know the lag caused that? Maybe you lost a second because you played differently.

Did you try to do 37 with the tank, that might have been easier. Maybe you should test if looking at the ground saves ingame time since many people seem annoyed by that. It obviously saves frames, but because this game lags so much, the frame counter doesn't seem to match with the ingame time.
I made avi's of Facility and Runway
You can make your own save states if you want.

there's a way to save like 2 seconds on dam:
Ramza0071: for the lock
Ramza0071: use kf7, waste like 10 bullets at you pass by the lock
Ramza0071: guess what happens
The Illu: door is open in the tunnel =-O
Ramza0071: yes
The Illu: omfg
Ramza0071: that door before you tag the computer
Ramza0071: that slow ass door is wide open
Ramza0071: it works almost all the time
Ramza0071: problem is
Ramza0071: at least 1 or 2 guards more are in the tunnel

philipptr, your first emerald... the beginning to the emerald room was about 10 frames faster than mine, but you lose 90 frames because you jump. i fixed it for you, now it's 14 frames faster than mine: http://rapidshare.de/files/22698566/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_all_emeralds_edit2.gmv.html
on the 3rd special stage, the mistake is that you bump on that ball.
We fall behind JXQ a bit because we can't do the spike trick, that makes 46 pretty hard.
Already tried it.

The sky looks better with Jabo's older graphics plugin (uniform color), although then there are some other small glitches.
But why would lag affect -your- speed? Why would Bond "lag" more than the rest of the game. The lookdown saves time, but the question is how. One thing could be that the ingame timer sometimes screws up when the game lags. I've seen that happen in Perfect Dark. Another thing is that it allows to make more precise movements.

I made an avi of the wip: http://rapidshare.de/files/22152131/WIP1.avi.html
There are some little flaws, mostly the beginning where you don't walk in optimal straight lines and you don't align yourself instantly. When you open doors, it might be good to face yourself more straight towards them to open them further away.
I'm pretty sure his placement is decided at the moment when you drop down from the vents, it won't change after that, so just manipulate that beginning and go check if he is in the right place until he is.
I have a trick that might save a second in Facility: instead of opening the door with the door decoder, shoot with KF7 to attract guards from the other side to open the door.

I know, I just meant your last hit, but you improved it now anyway.
The damage trick doesn't save that much time, you might lose more time if you get the shield, but there's also a shield near the moving platform in the beginning.
Yea, you just need to be faster. When collecting the rings we lose some frames, but I think it's possible to be fast enough. If not, get the shield.
JXQ got a damage boost right when he had 19 rings :/

enable frame counter so you don't have to use background markers. except the robotnik last hit and the switch, you also lose 12 frames in the beginning because you don't jump at the first possible frame.
i think it was xebra who originally came up with that strat.

btw, no one probably noticed but i found a small 20 frame improvement at the glitch place on act2.

but the special stages aren't fun cos they're hard and annoying!!... . i only like collecting the rings...
maybe you should study the levels more... marble1 should definitely be on the list, you can get 50 rings without losing almost any time. watch JXQ's run and count the rings on each level!!
lol, you're kidding... it can be done a lot faster, did you notice my first special stage was like a million seconds faster than yours!!
