I had serious desync problems with my Road Runner movie as well. I could solve them by setting sound rate to 48000Hz (necessary for audio to sync to video, as 32000Hz isn't implemented properly) and turning "flexible sound sample mix" OFF. I use 1.43svn123 and 1.51svn113. This option may be called slightly different in other versions. The sound will be worse while playing, but it won't make any difference in the final AVI (or MKV or whatever).

We chose the wrong route right at the beginning. Here is the proof. At least 1500 frames faster. (Not 1700 frames, because I collected many shells, which will cost about 200 frames later on, at least I think so.) 1400 frames come from the different route. Edit: Lua script removed, you will find it in one of my later posts.

Maybe I should add "manipulates luck", because I do so in at least 3 places first boss, second boss, and the penguin part.

... Yeah, too many flaws, but I won't create a new one. Doing all those thing is effectively the same as redoing everything again. (Yes, it used the guide, but for some reasons, the duplicate frame removal part didn't work.) EDIT Shortening the encode at the beginning and the end should be no big problem as long as it doesn't need reencoding, just PM me where I should cut. Anyway, the run was good.

TASeditor is somewhat right. Here's the proof that 7 equals 9 (and thus, by the rules of classical logic, every number is equal to 0 AND non-equal to zero) 1, 2, 3.1, 95, 98, me, xp, vista, 7

The movie should be labeled "minimal (button) presses TAS" explicitly, and there must be a "total buttons pressed" counter in the encode. Otherwise it just looks like a bad speedrun. And maybe some additional counters for sections like bosses. Problem for the last idea would be that this will always be chosen somewhat arbitrary. I found it interesting how different the boss fight looked from a normal playthrough. If we say that "minimal presses" is a good goal, then it should be "minimal presses ingame" for this particular game, as I don't see any point in waiting for all those menus.

Do we have such lists for the other consoles as well? Searching through all the topics over and over again is somewhat overly complicated...

Yay, dann können wir die deutsche Version von TASvideos aufmachen anstatt nur ein kleines Subforum, nennen wir dann WASD-Aufnahmen (Werkzeug-Assistierte SchnellDurchlaufs-Aufnahmen)

Encode is already there (the "avi" link in the submission text) Voting no as this game is just a shorter version of NES Air 2.

Guten Tag allerseits... Warum eigentlich "Mituser" und nicht "User", "Mitbenutzer" oder "Mitglieder"? Ähnlich unnötig wie "Kaffee to go", der mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit nicht aus Togo stammt...

Welcome to TASvideos! Game choice might be bad, because

How long does it take to complete the game once? If it's more than 15 minutes, this is possibly too boring to watch. What you have done so far looked OK for a testrun. Complete it once in that way. When you finished it, go looking for more details, for example:
  • sometimes you stop after jumping high, sometimes you don't.
  • taking damage can save time. I recommend you to test both types of run to see what is better.
  • at around frame 2250, it might be a good idea to run a bit more to the right than necessary. when you then jump to the left, you will have a higher speed, gaining a few frames.
In any case, post your testrun here again. You may also post it in the WIP thread once you finished the testrun.

Thanks for the votes so far. Which game should I try to TAS next?

If you're just going to have some fun TASing this game, go with it. But if you want to submit a publishable movie, I highly recommend you to choose another game (preferably not Mario). All the good Mario games have been TASed to death, and this game just has some changed graphics, nothing else. And your name indicates that you want to use Famtasia... This emulator is not allowed anymore for publication.

Too bad... I lost my 100% yes votes. And I don't know why.

The normal levels have way too much autoscrolling levels involved, at least in the warped version. Super Mario Bros 3 has the same problem, but it's much more popular which makes that acceptable. If most of the other levels are not auto-scrolling, I prefer a warpless run instead. It would also show more of this game. I think the Human Laboratory World will make a better TAS. It looks sufficiently different from the original game, and it's short enough. It will need much fine-tuning though (for example jump before falling).

It's really simple as far as I can see it TOnguE, BoURNE(S), ... I think you can add any letter in between the right letters, add some spelling mistakes, and forget some letters. And I think that it is sufficient to give just one word of the right answer, though I won't test that. I would recommend to test each variation of it individually. Afterwards you can think about giving strange and funny answers...

Actually it was much more difficult to manipulate the second boss. For the first one (starting at ~123), you just need to do some random action in between the hits to manipulate the ghost so that it doesn't stay at the top too long. Basically in such a way Hit one frame late, lose another five frames. Hit 10 frames late, win 50 frames. If you find some "better" random actions (maybe even intentional lag), you might be able to save some time. I won't be able to give more details about that, otherwise you would see it in this movie... The second boss (starting at ~347) is much more evil - You need to hit both enemies once. - The switch should be hit as early as possible. - You must manipulate the upper enemy in such a way that he will fall down wben you hit the switch. If you try hitting the switch at some random times, you will most likely fail to get the enemy down to the bottom part. I failed in about 49 out of 50 attempts.

Thanks for the encode. I just don't know how to embed it into the submission text.

Nice little game, nice music, fast-paced. Yes vote. I captured the audio of this game. It was recorded using Windows "Stereo Mix" with Audacity. ReplayGain recommends +12,37db so the volume might be bit low. It may contain some small artifacts. You will most likely have to edit it a bit to sync it to your encode. Get it here.

The run would look better if it is abused in some more levels... I'll give it a meh.

I would really like to see a complete run for this game. As far as I have seen until now, no one has considered the following things yet - All the videos I have seen here ignore all non-mandatory enemies (except when grinding). If there are enemies on your way that take less than one second of extra time to defeat, it might good idea to do so. For each section, you must calculate if the extra time it takes to kill the enemies is less than the time you need in the next grinding session. (Example If one hubble ball in tower one gives 2 exp and it takes 6 extra frames to kill it, this equals 2*60/6 = 20exp/s, that would be better than leveling at the parasite which only gives ~13exp/s.) For the same reason, it might be a good idea to use some magic rings or pins to kill large groups of enemies if you're too weak to kill them otherwise. Even if it doesn't save time in the end, it will make the run more exiting, so that might count as speed / entertainment tradeoff. - You can use at least one death warp. When you die, you're teleported back to the last spot where you saved. For example save when you're in Freedom, and die when you are in Storkolm for the second time (should be easy because you won't waste time to improve defense). It takes ~1 minute to teleport and walk to Freedom, saving in Freedom (and leaving afterwards) takes ~20 seconds, so it will be worth it.

NES Donkey Kong got published after it was done absolutely flawless. But this one has two big disatvantages: It's two times as long, and the game isn't as popular... Maybe you can find one more bug. I don't really know this game too well, but have you tried throwing Moses into the exit of the level? Or throw him on top of the spikes, or put him somewhere in a way you can repeat the bug of level 4?
