Hasn't this been TASed and rejected before?
It has been TASed before, but it was submitted by a banned user, and this submission is slightly faster. I still don't think that this hack is good enough.

It might be exactly the same run. The Youtube videos are 955 + 945, the last movement on the 3rd part happens at 524. I think the title in the Youtube link tells you the last boss hit rather than the last input frame.

Nice run, especially 4-3... This run might also be a candidate for an Atlas encode like I made for HappyLee's run. This run offers more than the warped walkathlon, and it was thought to be entirely impossible to do. Yes for the run, yes for obsoletion of the warped walkathlon.

It's time to continue this project... I found a completely new strategy for the first boss. It just needs a little fine-tuning. TODO: - I haven't tried to improve the Penkino fight. I was unable to concentrate on so many bosses at once... And: At this boss, I think it's possible to die after defeating it. Who knows, this might have some strange side-effects... - Some parts of Venge Thicket are slower than in the old movie. - Still many more levels to go...

Yeah, so this trick really works... Well, it might make sense to put some kind of countdown into the encode, otherwise the viewer might get bored before even seeing the first non-demo action... By the way I will definitely not attempt to do a TAS on this game, because I'm most likely unable to beat this game in real-time... However, I hope to see a TAS which uses the new trick. This might create a new category for this game, but I'm not sure about it. This game is just so insanely-slow-paced, so removing most levels will most likely be a good thing for entertainment.

I was surprised how different this game is from the N64 version. The run was really interesting. Yes vote. This will generate the desired layout: (I can't encode this one because my limits are 200MB or 15 minutes.)
orig = AVIsource("sm64ds.avi") #++ AVIsource("part2.avi") ++ ...
up = orig.crop(0,0,-0,192)
stackhorizontal(up.pointresize(up.width()*2, up.height()*2), orig) #maybe lanczosresize is better
#pointresize(width()*2,height()*2)

A quick look into AVIsynth reference showed me "MixAudio" will do the job in AVIsynth. However, I recommend you also to: - resync the two movies at each new room transition, maybe also at the start of bosses. - disable the "music" channel before dumping the second movie.

There might be some small improvements like this one (if it's possible... wall jumps are quite tricky in this game). So this is one reason to vote no, but... there are a few hundred reasons for giving this one a yes, so I voted the same as everyone else. My preferred screenshot is (insert a random number between 1000 and 330000 here).

I was surfing around somewhat randomly, and this game happened to be in the list from mmbossman. I'm not sure if the following is a cheat or a bug, but it wasn't mentioned anywhere in this forum... The following text appeared literally on at least three different websites:
Warp to 8-3 Enter the Options screen and switch the controls to A and C for Fire and B for Jump. Return to the title screen wait for the demos to begin. Watch the demos until you see an extremely dark level. The demo will run for a while and then pause. Press Start to unpause and enter the game. You will die and begin at the Volcano level. Keep spitting to light up the place, otherwise it will be totally dark.
Does this classify as a bug or as a cheat? If it's a bug, it would be a huge timesaver.

Making a good encode is a completely different task opposed to making a good TAS. And as long as you don't have 100MBit upstream, it can take quite a long time to upload the video, and it most likely requires you to register at Youtube or Dailymotion or (worse) Megaupload or some other filesharing host. The submitter might not like the idea to be forced to register somewhere else beforehand. You could possibly just implement a small "link to encode" in almost the same way as the "submission file" thing. This wouldn't require such hacks as the "[video" idea. If no encode is ready, it might be noted in the title of the submission thread automatically.

Wow... That was one of the worst ports the worst port of a Megaman game I have ever seen. Technically, it looked good enough. Entertainment-wise it fails miserably... Well, a video that displays NES Megaman and DOS Megaman side-by-side (or alternating) would entertain more... You would now see even better how bad this port really is.

Yeah, these cheats are really useful for playing around with the stages. They must not be used in the final movie of course, but you're free to use them for all the planning, and strategy tests, etc. Game genie codes can also prove useful (if they exist for this game) because you can find RAM addresses with them, but they must not be enabled while making the movie... The safest way is to always delete all those codes before recording. The movies I have seen so far are really good, so keep on!

I've tried Overlay on some transparent picture, and it adds black around it.
Use a black image with white text on it, but be sure to disable anti-alias in your graphics program. Gimp and even the newest mspaint use anti-aliased text by default... You'll have to use exactly the right font size, otherwise this will look quite horrible. Or maybe use a very small font size, and afterwards pointresize() the whole image. Then you can use the idea from nanoglyth and use
layer(src, subtitleimageclip.mask(subtitleimageclip)

this would start the macro when you press F11+frameadvance or numpad0 + frameadvance. (I haven't tested this code, but it should work)
function press(param)
    local temp={}
    for _,s in ipairs(param) do temp.s = true end
    joypad.set(1,temp)
    emu.frameadvance()
end

function macro(param)
    for _,t in ipairs(param) do press(t) end
end

while(true) do
    emu.frameadvance()
    keys=input.get()
    if keys["F11"] then
        press{"A","B"}
        press{"A"}
        press{}
        press{"B"}
    end

    if keys["numpad0"] then macro{{"A","B"},{"A"},{},{"B"}} end
end

Voting no because this submission is shorter than Desert Bus.
