Doesn't this game always take the same amount of time to complete? There is a perfect run on YouTube.

This was an awesome run; the warp glitch by the piston was really surprising.

Agreed, but they're all over YouTube anyway. Beans is one of the funnier ones.

Yeah, it's a shame the gameplay is so bad since the graphics and music are really nice. Part 3 - Ynt Mines, Ynt Weeds, Ynt Eggs, Glenn Yntis, Monk Rushmore, Soar Head The most entertaining part is Glenn Yntis at 7:57. Movie file.

maTO has an incomplete test run of this game near the bottom of this page.

I probably wouldn't find this run interesting at all if I hadn't played the game a lot back when it came out. The game is pretty repetitive, and it's long too; I think a full run would be just under 40 minutes.

I'm working on a test run: Part 1 - Science Center, Monkey Shrines, Hard Boiler, Sno, Skullmonkey Brand Hot Dogs Part 2 - Skullmonkey Brand Hot Dogs, Joe Head Joe, Elevated Structure of Terror, Ynt Death Garden Movie file. mz plays the alternate version of Sno here.

I can't even make the freeze move in real time. :/
Try hitting left and right quickly, then delaying a moment and hitting up. Here's a play around with Thumper in Antarctica.

Some quick tests: Thumper Twister Mr. Slam These aren't fully tool-assisted because I'm not sure how to do the freeze move (left, right,up) in frame advance. Thumper probably has the most powerful special, but it takes a while to recharge. Twister's special recharges very quickly. Mr. Slam is good for ramming other cars, which will become important in some of the later levels.

Here is the first 8:40, everything that I've completed so far. It goes up to the middle of Rainy Turtloid's stage. Movie file. Here is what beating him would look like. EDIT: It turns out you can skip the cutscenes. This will be edited later.

mz: If you can get this X6 movie to sync at all, it might help you to track down a desync problem. On my computer it has about a 50-50 chance of desyncing or playing correctly. Playing correctly: At about 5000 frames, X enters the second boss door walking Playing incorrectly: At the same point, he "floats" through the door - this is because of an extra frame sometime before. I've set the movie up in a way so it should recover from that desync and if the movie "completes" it should desync in Rainy Turtloid's stage.

I've completed a test run of the intro stage. Youtube and movie file. Now I'm wondering about route planning. Infinity Mijinion supposedly has the shortest route to the secondary boss room. I also apparently need to get a special weapon to beat High Max. Are any parts worth getting?

Would someone mind re-uploading the lua script that fast-forwards cut scenes and door transitions?

Thanks for adding input display, it made a huge difference. I'd continue, but I can't get the colony to blow up. EDIT: I restarted from the beginning and improved the movie by several seconds. I was hoping that I'd be able to blow up the colony, but it still didn't work. Youtube and movie file.

I decided to try again since mz added input display. The Sigma fight is much better this time. Youtube and movie file.

I hope you don't mind if I upload your movie to my YouTube channel, as I'd like to have as many TASes there as possible to get more people interested.
Sure, that's fine with me.

No worries, the glory is all yours. :) I posted this in the hope that one of the Mega Man TAS experts would get interested in working with mz's emulator.

I did a quick TAS of the intro stage. I was going to go further, but I'm not sure how to manipulate the destruction of the space colony. You can see it on Youtube or download the movie file.

Nice! A couple of questions, sorry If I have missed the obvious. PCSX turns off the GUI and repositions the window when playing back. Is there a way to change this? How do I resume a movie? Even with the read-only toggle I can't seem to get a movie to resume recording.

Someone named Paul Kuliniewicz added a genetic algorithm to FCEU a while ago. It might be useful if the algorithm can make changes to a pre-existing movie instead of starting from something random. Here is a post on his blog about it. The source is available on that page. Here is a video of it playing Dr. Mario.

Very nice. Is the cart better for a TAS than the CD?
