A recent test and digging resulted in a discovery that Lil Gecko's FF9 runs will not sync on Bizhawk 2.0 for the following reason: Lil Gecko's run appears to one of the late builds of version 1 (1.9-1.11) of Bizhawk, with both memory cards and both controllers (dual shock) plugged in. Due to the implementation of waterbox in v 2.0, the timing for loading memory cards/controllers in the system boot up has changed. Since the initialization of the RNG table is dependent on the system clock (0x1F801120), this means that it is impossible to sync the old run on the new version of Bizhawk. It is interesting to note that when no memory cards are inserted, the two versions of BizHawk agree with regard to system clock time. Different results are produced based on the number of controllers plugged in and whether or not they are game pad or dual schock, but it is consistent across both versions and does not appear to affect the frame count (unlike the memory card). This could be an interesting avenue of RNG exploration if another pass is made at the any% TAS of this game.

One request for much later next year when you are looking at GBC. Can you try and get whatever improvements were made in https://github.com/Dabomstew/gambatte-speedrun available so that we can get console syncing Pokemon Gen 1 (maybe even gen 2) runs?

It is only desyncing every version recently because there were several versions that updated to new versions of mGBA to fix bugs that wouldn't allow us to TAS certain games properly. Current version should be stable for quite some time.

While the game itself is not that exciting, I am impressed with what you managed to achieve and watched through the full video. Yes vote from me!

Congratulations on finishing this ThunderAxe! I know you spent a lot of effort putting this together, and it shows in the results!

Yes, the above happens to me as well. And as a result the emulation speed goes down each time.

So recently (not that recent, but like a month ago), Dolphin reimplemented its eject disc feature. Are there any plans to support this in future dtm movie files?

test run on bizhawk 2.1.1 Better than the previous TAS (beamcrash's one, not the one in the above posts), but slower due to loading times.[/movie]

Good find, although I wonder if the Japanese version will still be slower due to text differences...

More accurate emulation due to the removal of the deterministic save state hack.

Since I helped resync the movie to the correct BIOS (it was originally made entirely on the debug BIOS), I can try and fix this over the weekend.

Well, one thing that is clear is that my movie should certainly not be published; look at Takanawa's (second) updated movie which is completed in 3:44. I'm not sure what the signficance of it not syncing on BizHawk is, but it certainly seems publishworthy. The only reason I'm keeping the submission on the workbench is because I fear that if I remove it, the other movie will not be submitted and will not be published on the site.

Seems like the RTA community has found some glitches that could be useful for a new run: http://www.speedrun.com/ps3/thread/j4hnt And since the old TAS is over 10 years old... might be worth trying to obsolete?

Yes, I have an improved version that I just uploaded which is under 12 minutes. It is still not optimal though, however, because I tried to experiment with a different, more exciting route (rock route), which I though would save time with all of the new lag reduction tricks. However, it seems that it is still 1.5 to 2 seconds slower than the normal route... and I haven't had the motivation to redo it that way yet. Maybe just update the submission with the given file in the meantime?

I'm using the Japanese version. Will take a look at your notes. EDIT: Ah nice, there is the encounter rate! Wanted that so badly for my lua script but Trace Logger/Debugger broken on BizHawk.
