I realized a while ago that left+right is not possible on console and that SDA doesn't allow it because hardware modifications are required to make it possible. The controller that I used to figure out the glitch was some weird High Frequency controller that I guess lets you press l+r. I tried it on a normal controller and it didn't work. The strangest thing just happened though. I just did the left + right trick on console using a completely legit and official SNES controller, like the ones that come with the system. I was in the cloud in SW3 and just pushed really hard on the left and right buttons with my thumbs and I saw myself jerk a little. I went to the left wall to test and sure enough I went through the wall. This proves that left+right IS possible and I might be able to use it if I do a 96 console run. It should work on any controller. I will test on different controllers(the one I was using and my friends other controller). I probably won't use it though as people will call it cheating even though I think it is a possible and legit trick. If it only worked on that high frequency controller I wouldn't use it but I got it to work on a standard controller. If anybody wants to try it I just pushed down both buttons and wiggled it a little until I was pushed forward.

I just found a situation where I think hitting a corner will give you a boost. You come from the left and above and as you are falling you hit the left corner of an object. I used a pipe. It is easier to practice with a cape but it should be possible with out it. Mario gets pushed forward the same way he does as with the water boosts. I am curious as to why the supermarioworldtricks page says the underwater corner trick doesn't work with an item. I have hitten a corner in DS1 and it looks like I am pushed forward. Also, JXQ said in his comments for his 11 run that he got a corner boost in SW2 and you are holding a baby yoshi the whole time. unless he hits the pipe in the beginning(I will have to check). Do you not actually get a boost with the item? I just checked and he does get the pipe. It looks like he gets a boost at the end when he is going down below the pipe. Is this not an actual boost?

I JUST DID THE SHELL JUMP OVER THE WATER IN YI4!!!!! I jumped short like Fabian said and it worked. It took a few tries but I finally did it. I will practice until I get it consistent. Hopefully I will be able to. I'm not going to even attempt the jump in castle 1 as it involves many frame precise moves. This will be so cool if I can do the jump and get a 276.

I think I can answer some of those questions. Fabian can correct me if I'm wrong. For the kamikaze questions, it seems like Fabian went for as entertaining of a movie as possible and a couple of frames lost here and there are worth it to show jawdropping tricks. This is just what I am guessing. I am not sure about the short distances at the ending. 3. You need the fireflower for castle 2,4,5. This room is a scroller so it is the fastest place to pick up a flower. Any other place would cause you to slow down. I thought this myself when watching but then the answer came to me and I felt pretty stupid for doubting him. 7. Fabian has made it clear before that he doesn't watch timeunits because they don't really matter for a TAS. I actually don't know why he didn't get a 261 on SW2 as it is possible but there probably is some reason. 10. I am assuming it is because he made that level "awesome" which might have caused him to slow his speed in a few places. Either that or lag at the end had something to do with it. It isn't a full timeunit delay. The number being lower barely affects the overall time. I guess the only question I really answered was 3 and the rest were just theories. Anyways, I loved the run and I will definitely watch it again and again. On a sidenote I have a question for my 11 level run. I was trying to do the shell jump in YI4 and I actually got really close. One time I landed on the shell and actually heard the sound the game makes when you jump off a shell. I was caught off guard and wasn't expecting to hit it so I wasn't holding jump and didn't make it across. I am pretty sure I could have made it if I was actually paying attention. All of my other hundred attempt or so were ruined because the shell was too deep in the water. I want to know how the TAS's have the shell high enough to jump off of it? I am doing everything the same as the runs I think. I jump into the block, drop the shell, kick it then jump. I am usually above the shell but i can't reach it. It would be crazy if I could do this but it doesn't matter that much due to the time it will take to perfect it and how many runs it will ruin. I just realized that the new 96 run is exactly 10 minutes faster than the non-tool run.

I can't find the exact words to describe all of the amazing tricks in this run and I don't want to leave any comment out so all I am gonna say is WOW!!! I love how you just totally demolished every level in this game. A definite yes, a star even.

I do not understand what you are getting at. How does getting a certain amount of stars at a gate have anything to do with the amount of frames it takes to beat a level. If anything this would complicate things by affecting lag. On another note, if normal flight and spin flight have the same ascending speed then I think I might do normal flight in the pipe of DS1 and cape the koopa instead of spin flight. It looks closer to 275 when I do that and I sometimes mess up doing a spinfly. I am curious as to how good of a 275 you(JXQ or Fabian) got when leaving the pipe in DS1. By that I mean was it a solid 275 maybe even close to 276 or was it just a 275 by a couple of frames. I want to know because I have tried so much and can't get 275 so I think it is impossible on console. I'm thinking it would have to be absoulutely perfect and an emulator would be needed to know exactly how much you press left to not hit the koopa but also to not slow down. If you were closer to 276 I might have to keep trying to see if I can get 275.

That is pretty weird Jimsfriend. Thegreginator could't get left+right to work either. I am not too sure why it works for me and not others. Have you tried up+down because that works too. I just press down the center and that works fine. How do you allow left+right on snes-9x? I thought there was a menu where you turned left+right on, but I couldn't find.

I think the SNES game Claymates is a good example of a weird game. I can't remember the plot exactly but basicly some evil guy comes down and turns you into a ball of clay. You roam around very odd backgrounds and you can turn into different animals by jumping into a funnel. There is also a random bonus stage where you bounce around trying to light up boxes. I agree with JXQ about Uniracers. It is a pretty weird idea for a video game. You race as a unicycle(just a unicyle, no rider) through many brightly colored tracks loaded with crazy flips, twists and some strange purple goo that slows you down.

I got a time of 1:45:53 last night. I am pretty happy with this time as it is 14 minutes under my goal. I didn't die once the whole game, but I did lose my cape/flower a few times and had to go back a bit to get them. I also lost lots of time on a few levels, namely castles and fortresses. I think it is very possible to beat Jason Baum's time. I know many tricks in this game and can beat most of his level times. The INCREDIBLY hard part is executing everything in a run. For this I respect him greatly. I have no clue how he kept his cool and still performed risky tricks at the end. I think with route changes(I use VIPer7's except for a few places), tricks such as FoIgh, a few units saved on each level, and a better Bowser fight(I can save at least 10-15 seconds) I can beat this run. Maybe even sub 1:30 is possible but that would probably be a perfect run. A new run won't come any time soon(from me), but I am going to perfect each level and do a run-through every now-and-then and I should be able to do it within the next year or so. I am not going to devote myself to this, but I will practice. I have a question on Castle 2. In my run last night, my time was 30 units slower than Jason Baum because I just couldn't quite fit through this one part. Does the movement of the walls depend on when you enter the door or are they the same everytime? I get in the pipe faster than him so I think that might be the problem. If the time affects the walls, I think I will just enter the same time as him.

I disagree with you andrewg. Playing the whole game through is actually quite difficult and not boring at all. It isn't as simple as just flying through every level. Lots of levels are difficult/impossible to fly through. If you think flying is boring, then try to see how many enemy you can bounce off of. I avoid staying above the screen. I like to fly in the middle of everything to keep it more entertaining. If you have beaten this game in an hour and a half then you might want to try to beat the record. It's 1:31:30(non tool). I going to do a run right now and hopefully it is at least sub 2 hour.

I just tried a 96-exit run and I am pretty disappointed in it. I want to eventually beat the record but I didn't even come close. My time was 2:02:55. I died about 12-15 times. It's not too bad though because it was my first 96 attempt in a couple of months so I wasn't used to it. I still beat my old time by around 10 minutes. I knew this run wasn't going to be the record or even close to it, but I was hoping for at least sub 2 hour. Oh well. The good thing about this is that it made me appreciate how much easier/more fun an 11 exit is.

Hello all. I am working with thegreginator on a console 11-exit speedrun. I have recently come across a cool new trick. If you hold left and right at the same time while riding lakitu cloud/p-balloon, you can go much faster than normal and you can move through walls and certain blocks. Using this method I can get a 277 on tubular. The current TAS just jumps across the level with a cape and gets a 274. This movement is must faster than walking, and it might even be as fast as running or flying but I am not sure. I tried to perform this trick on an emulator so I could make a video, but it wouldn't let me press left+right at the same time. Hopefully you(Fabian) can do this, as it will gain three time units, unless you already do something different than the current run to get a better time. I'm not sure if my method is slower due to fadeout lag or somelike that. I know you already did special world and don't want to go back to fix a little problem, but I think 3 timeunits is a lot. Hopefully this won't desynch or something like that so it will be easy for you to edit. The other use for this is more for jimsfriend. It is only beneficial if you have to be small for this level. I can get a 187 on this level, and in his small topic at SDA he said his best time was 186. What I do is get in the cloud but instead of going to the right, going through the gap and jumping off to get the key, I go straight up after getting the cloud(to the left of the wall), do the trick to go through the wall, jump up and get the key in the hole. Sorry if everybody already knows this but I just wanted to tell you all because it is a very cool trick that is helpful. Thegreginator was actually the one who first did this on accident. We never knew how to do it but it would always happen when we didn't want it to. I finally took the time to figure out the trick after I had trouble with tubular jumping across and wanting an easier way. I told him how but he still can't get it to work. Hopefully you can. I am also very sorry for the many run-on sentences I used and the NUMEROUS commas I put in. I hope this helped. EDIT: That middle paragraph torwards jimsfriend is about Star World 3. I thought I originally put that in but apparently not. Sorry about that.
