Btw, you might want to fix the screenshot for this TAS, there's some jagged aliased edges.
Yea, that was due to rush publishing instead of waiting for me. I'll go fix it with the right one now. Edit: Fixed with correct screenshot.
That was the screenshot I was hoping for as well.

Just fyi for you people: I wasn't against publishing this TAS. I was "meh" towards it. I just wanted to secure that the next runners are granted the same privileges this runner was. Meaning the J rom. Since it is clearly a lot faster to use it. And yeah I know that text speed doesn't figure into the judging but it does in the perception of the (very often spoken about) general viewer. It's just not fair for the guys making the next run to compete against a J rom with a U rom. But in the end I probably shouldn't worry. It seems you will accept any OoT run that is reasonably fast, no matter how many rules are screwed, anyway. So if they just do the run on J 1.2 they will be fine. ^^
1. Using the J rom isn't a privelege. It's an exception for a run that wasn't originally created for this site. 2. A new run on the U rom won't be competing against the time of this run on the J rom. It will be competing against this run's gameplay. Of course, I'm only using competition in a loose sense of the word; it's more like trying to paint a better picture than trying to beat someone in a footrace. 3. No one here considers this run an invitation for all runs to be done on whichever rom you choose. It states right in the rules that English is preferable and that the previously preferred rom should always be used unless there is a good reason to switch. Doing the run on the J version just so your final time appears lower is exactly the kind of pride-based motive that this site frowns upon. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only person to vote no on such a run. 4. Even if you decided to make your own site just so you could do your run on the J version, this site will go on. Someone else will pick up the Ocarina of Time run because it's just too popular of a game with too much potential to just have a run sit there with clear improvements. That being said, everyone here still wants a run from Grunz, Swordless, AKA, and Bloobliebla, much moreso than this run, but that run doesn't exist yet. The fact is that this run much better represents the goals of this site than our currently published run. When the new run comes this summer, that will be a flagship run for the site and likely starred, but there's no real reason not to give the site's visitors the best the game has to offer in the meantime.

First, I'll point out before anyone else does that the odd mushroom is not a tradeoff; you need to take it out twice no matter what. I watched the run with the new nicovideo link. This run is much more optimized than GuanoBowl's as well as using most of the newer tricks. Whereas JNX's submission didn't really pass the eye test for pure impressiveness as a TAS, this run passes with flying colors in my opinion. It's true that a better run could surpass this run in many ways, but this run doesn't have any obvious failings for what it is. When you get down to it, I think this run is the TAS that people were expecting to see up until about six months ago. Maybe it doesn't have all the route choices and movement optimizations that would usually be expected today, but it's far better display of the game's potential than our current run from several years ago. As embarrassing as some people consider it to be to have GuanoBowl's run up on the site, I think it would be even more embarrassing to not replace it with this run. Yes, it's suboptimal, and yes, it unfortunately uses the J rom, but it's not every day that a quality Ocarina of Time TAS is made. Someday, hopefully soon, the Zelda TASers will make a great run on the US run that surpasses this one in every way, but until that time, I think this one is a good placeholder.

I didn't know what that meant, but after looking I just found the option. I'm looking forward to watching this in full now. Great run...I don't know how much more time you guys could possibly take off this game, but I'm sure you will someday.

How do I get this to synch? I keep getting into a fight with a Magidrakee that doesn't end. Rom matches, and I even downloaded 2.1.2; I couldn't find 2.0.4. If there is an emulator that should work, can you link to it directly? Is it possible that there is some setting that is off that I'm unaware of? It does seem to be lagging at random spots like inside the throne room already, so maybe it's an issue with my computer.

I just thought of something: if you do plan on panning around the city during wait periods, you should try to show the formation of as many "TOP"s as you can.

Qix, Pengo, and basically most classic games where one level looks more or less like the previous one. Maybe I'm biased, but for me speedruns are for platformers, and anything that is too far from being one, doesn't quite arouse my interest.
I would love to see a Pengo TAS, though maybe more of a playaround with more combos and the diamond blocks connected in every level would be better than pure speed.

I think you should max the levels. I have faith in your ability to do it without wasting much time, and I think leveling strategies are interesting.

Here is a comparison of this run with its predecessors. They are again resynced at each room to avoid some of them lagging too far behind for comparison to be possible, but I will encode a version without that resyncing later. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEJhrU1EAhk Edit: The quality will hopefully improve as youtube has more time to process it. Edit2: Here is the one without room resync: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZtEqONzuwk Not as informative as the video above, in my opinion, but still interesting.
I love both of these. The best parts are in Star World when you can see the older runs coming out of a previous level when on the world map. The dragon coin glitch is pretty awesome. I'm imagining that getting keys that way could play a part in the SDW runs.

Ehm... it's not possible for the game to end after two rounds.
You're right, what was I thinking. Now that I think about it, though, I believe this is a simple distribution of some sort. I think something needs to be clarified, though. If I win, and then he wins one, and then I win, is the game over? The problem doesn't explicitly answer that, but I would guess no. I think the implication is that, for example, if I have heads, and he has tails, we are going to flip the coin until there are more tails than heads, but you are all probably assuming this already.

Would you be able to scroll the screen to catch up to the koopa paratroopa in 5-1 to kick the shell under the block formation and use it on the flagpole, or is that too time-consuming or impossible?

Pay attention people: they had put off the run, but now they are going to start working on it again. Quit complaining for no reason.

There were two incredible parts. I can't believe you actually used Death Mountain Descent in a route. Hard to believe that's the fastest way, but it would be fun if it is. Also, I've never seen the jump out of the water glitch before. Is that where the other bottle is? Maybe that can be worked in there. Really looking forward to this run.

Big-time spoiler alert The vine glitch is awesome! It allows Mario to run way closer to the right edge of the screen than he should ever be able to, and causes an unexpected wraparound at the end of 2-1. It's even cooler in 3-1 when it also causes him to walk through the stairs. It's even cooler in 6-2 when it also causes him to walk right through a Koopa Troopa! I love the progression of awesomeness each time this glitch is used. Easy Yes vote.
I agree with this. You don't expect a Mario 1 run to be so shocking, but this run is almost star-worthy. Very nice run guys.

Here's another vote for unpublishing the two one track racing games. I haven't watched either of them, but I don't think either submission would last more than a few days on the Workbench today. I do disagree with unpublishing movies that are low on the entertainment list. I enjoy many of those movies, and I don't see many good things coming out of a discussion of which ones should be removed. I think a better goal would be to obsolete as many of those movies as possible.

If you get the Bremen Mask, isn't there a bush with 5 rupees in the Laundry Pool?
