Ok I think I will actually do this. I'll be restarting from the beginning and grabbing Yoshi at YI2 for some corner boosts. Also, this is a TAS in which Mario "does not run", not a TAS in which Mario "does not press y/x." Running is defined as pressing x/y+forward while on the ground. This means I can do things such as swallow enemies with Yoshi and swim while holding items since these dont change your ground speed. Saying that Mario never "runs" also rationalizes picking up keys and mechakoopas, since you can do these things without breaking the rules (you dont have to be on the ground or be pressing forward to grab a key/mechakoopa). This makes the rules more clear and eliminates any exceptions. EDIT: Quick change in the rules. Pressing a direction+x/y is never allowed, even when in the air, because that gets you up to 37 speed.

YI3 is done. This level had a few close calls with the moving yellow blocks. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3323/thegreginator%20walkathon%20yi3.smv Does anyone actually want to see this completed? Because I wouldnt mind doing it, I could churn it out in about a weekend. If anyone seriously wants to see this, say so and I'll start over to redo YI2 since I wasnt trying for entertainment or corner boosts the first time. Also, the opening menu isnt optimized.

I took the liberty of making this awesome WIP. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3322/Walkathon%20WIP.smv Walking speed maxes out at 21, whereas running speed maxes out at 49. Theres a big difference between walking and running. The chuck gave me a boost up to 32, but most levels would look like the beginning of YI2, with 21 speed hop glitch for the whole level. Pretty exciting, huh?

I think antd's pure speed run (so far) was very entertaining and had a real shot at being published. It is vert well optimized and is more exciting than comicalflop's run IMO. Just look at his Pikachu fight. Antd, you're almost done, you should fninsh this run up and submit it.

Sorry this is a bit late, but I know I've heard this somewhere before (maybe a TV show?). Where did it come from? I'm going crazy trying to remember.

If your doing non tool, since your not doing hop glitch theres no point in jumping anyway :) .
Of course there's a point to doing the jump off the message block at the beginning. Whether or not hop glitch is involved, it still saves time. Eiskalt-Ger: This jump is possible without tools, it just take a little practice. Try doing as short of a jump as possible at the last possible second just before Mario gets to the block.

antd, someone mentioned somewhere that it was possible to get Pikachu to do his up b off the edge right away to get a time of 2 seconds (falling in the gap to the right of the main area, between the buildings). Could this work in your video for a faster time?

I agree that an "all BtT and BtP" run would be quite nice.

Small-only is done with Special World.

Rest assured Oddity, the small-only run has almost no glitches in it. Although midair jumping would be quite helpful. :)

antd I anticipate positive feedback for your run because of the clear goal. The only thing they might be mad about is repetition, but its so fast it doesnt matter.

I'm voting yes because I was entertained by this run. The one problem that I have is, as others have stated, that the goal is pretty unclear/unusual. I think that if this run is to be obsoleted, it should be done so by a higher score, even if it's much slower. Since antd is already doing a pure fastest completion, having time as a factor is pointless unless it adds to the score, which it usually doesnt (waiting for the Pacifist almost always makes up for time lost doing so).

Submit now. I also think a drill of the Master Hand would make a good screenshot.

Oh yeah, I dont know what I was thinking with that 10:51. XD. 10:35, maybe even 10:34 (by SDA rules) sounds about right.

SkamastaG and I have not given up on the console run, we are just putting it on hold because we're working on the TAS right now. We'll probably get around to doing it when the TAS is done, but if you want to try too go for it. The time of 10:51 is a bit outdated, I would say the ideal time for us now would be about 10:48-10:49. We had strategies for every level figured out, it was just a matter of recording the run. P.S. If you do beat the current record, that might motivate us to finally start officially recording this run so we can have the title. ;)

For race to the finish you should be able to gain a little time if you do Kirby's dash A at the very end. Also, are you sure you got the the ground as soon as possible, like in 50 seconds on the timer? Maybe you could manipulate the Pikachu to do something else so you can get to the ground faster.

At first I kind of wanted to see the Ness fight, but now that you mention it, the fight would take a way from a nice solid ending. So count me down for no on the Ness fight. Also, any chance of an AVI/YouTube for Samus and Metal Mario?

Yes, for optimal damage you would probably do the aerial down a several times followed by some juggling with up tilt a. Stone would be a bad idea because that sends him flying so you have to go chase him to do more damage to him. I would guess you could beat him by: down drill, down drill (maybe third down drill), up tilt juggling, then hit or spike him inot the lava, star finish.

an 8 second of Fox pacifist is going to, I guarantee, be more entertaining than a 30 second of Kirby goofing around waiting for Fox to get Arwing-afied.
I would actually say that watching 30 seconds of insane damage-dealing combos would be far more entertaining than just watching Fox kill himself. For your second run/redo of this game, I would give more thought to getting a higher score at the cost of time in some places such as Fox. I can understand how boring Yoshi Team would be, but there may be other places where going for pure score can be more entertaining than you think.

Are you gonna redo your BtP comicalflop? I think you should at least be able to tie the realtime record. FYI doing the stone is not the fastest way to move downwards, thats one of the places you lost time. EDIT: antd, is there a video for the 30"43 BtP?

I don't want to do it :P hope you understand The aerial + trickster + yoshi's rainbow is 71,000 points, and in a much less time so this seems more ideal to use.
So are you saying that your method actually gets more total points than the total points you would have for a pacifist strategy? If not, then you might want to reconsider getting pacifist (even if its hard) since your goal is score not speed.

Isnt there some kind of glitch that involves pausing the game a certain way to get a time of 0.00? This could give you more points if it works.
