Interesting glitch... may be more useful in other places maybe? Have you tried exploring using other dashes and stuff to see if they work better? This may end up with someone finding a way to zip in this game! Hell ya... will vote YES on this if I could LOL

Good work. I loved it. Although using version 16 caused a desync, so I had to use version 15.
Weird, for me both 16 and 15 desynced on the Hardman stage. Was forced to use 12... but who cares, what was important to me was that the run was improved ;)

ARGH, the music was like super badly midi-fied classical pieces, those killed the whole experience of the game! But anyhow, I thought the run was pretty good despite the music... almost made it look like a autoscroller. Enough to get my YES vote

I noticed that there isn't much talk on German, isn't it supposed to be quite similar to English in some ways? I heard my friend say before that 1 good thing about German is that each vowel is pronounced always pronounced in the same way, which sort of eliminates those promise/compromise kinds of confusion.

Woohoo, very nicely done! Great to see my favourite NES game improved once again :) Give yourselves a pat on the back! My only grouse is that too much of the music was glitched away (the music in this game is like the best in NES history!)... but oh well, sacrifices must be made for TAS...

I guess I'm in a way obligated to sort of clear any doubts on Chinese... so here goes
Truncated wrote:
Each character in chinese/japanese writing does not represent a picture of the meaning it conveys (but this is indeed a common misconception).
Hmmm, this is a tricky one to answer. I guess AKA and Truncated are both right in a way. Well, to sort of clarify this, I would have to talk a bit about the invention of Chinese writing. Historians identified the earliest form of writings as "Oracle Bone Script", which were closer to representation of pictures. However, over the few thousand years of evolution, most of the characters have been simplified, so much so that the original pictures in them aren't as distinct as before. For example, the character for 'rain'.
Truncated wrote:
The absolute majority of characters contain a component hinting the meaning, and a component reflecting the pronunciation.
This is true about 50% of the time in Chinese. A Chinese character can usually be broken up into several parts, namely the side component and the main component. The main component of the character usually dictates how the word is going to be pronounced. With this, one can roughly guess how the word may sound. But for the other 50% of the time, the words with the same main component may be pronounced with much variation, sometimes pronunciation may differ by just a consonent, but occasionally, it may be totally unlike what one may expect it to sound like. Also, as mentioned earlier, there maybe multiple pronunciations for a single character, so it is not exactly safe to assume that there is always a component reflecting the pronunciation.
Truncated wrote:
It is very unusual to memorize characters visually, the overwhelming majority of people remember them by which components make up a character.
Characters are seldom taught to people visually, due to the fact the there are just too many characters to remember (unless you have a super photographic memory). The beauty of Chinese characters lies in the way they are made up of components (sort of like alphabets, but with more strokes). While the main component usually drops hints to the reader about the pronunciation and meaning of the word, the side component dictates the context the word is used in. The side components may be a "hand" component, which is usually the case for actions related to the arms, or maybe a "metal" component, used in characters related to tools and stuff like that. This makes words much easier to remember, since once you know which context the word is going to be used in, you can already guess half the word.

What? Is there any language without semicolon? In portuguese it works just like it does in english.
In all my years of doing Chinese, I've never seen or used a semicolon, so I doubt they exist in the language. In Singapore, it's compulsary to do 2 languages in school (usually Chinese and English) and because of this there are often confusion in the way grammar works in both languages. Just take for example punctuation. In Chinese, the colon, is used as a lead in when starting a conversation Eg. xoinx says:"hello" (Chinese) xoinx says, "Hello." (English) Also, in Chinese, there is a special punctuation to separate items when listen. This is in addition to the comma already present in Chinese which is used to segment sentences. This is another very common error when it comes to written Chinese.
Boco wrote:
Chinese completely isn't harder at all. There's no morphology, each character is read only one way, etc.
Not exactly true, in fact quite a number of characters in Mandarin (the official dialect of Chinese in China, Beijing) have up to 3 maybe even 4 pronunciations, though where I come from most people aren't quite particular about using the right pronunciation in the specific context. I guess Chinese is not a very hard language to pick up as many have said, but in my opinion it is one of the most demanding languages at a more advanced level. The challenge comes in memorising characters. There are easily over 10000-20000 different characters, some commonly used, while others are quite obscure (kind of similar to old English). And while different characters may be similar sounding, they can either be used only in certain contexts or paired with a specific character. With all that said, I still think its one of the most meaningful languages, especially with all the very figurative expressions. If any of you can find the time, I highly recommend learning it... afterall with China on the rise who knows if you might find some good business opportunities learning it LOL

3) using a crazy glitch in the moon level discovered by HHS to glitch past half the level – approx 3000 frames!
I was like WTF when I read this, and I was like MEGA WTF when I witnessed it! Crazy glitch! Nice improvement on the video!

Hmmm, the 3 frames of improvement was barely noticible to my eyes. Obsoleting of a concept demo, has it ever happened before? I am not sure what to vote.

He may have been talking about this, how do you do this by the way? I don't think that is possible unless you are coming back. (hotlinked straight from "Sites" 'Obsolete screenshot collection').
Hmmm, from which run was that taken from? Or was it intended just to be a conceptual time saver kind of thing? Looks like manipulating the enemies into that position may take a while... there are 3 imp thingys there, meaning the player has to wait for at least 3 bird spawns. And to get them to be in the right positions to bounce the player to the top of the screen, maybe someone can test it to see if it is indeed a time saver, that is if you can walk to the other side.

Hmmm, for odd reasons I quite like this movie for most parts. I feel that it is well done and entertaining and deserves a YES from me... though like NecroVMX i don't think the movie will get published. That aside, I enjoyed it, and I have to admit given the constraints of the (stupid and ridiculous) game, it was well TASed.

Hmmm, I think the movie was done quick enough, so it wasn't too boring for the whole length. Knocking the opponents around the screen was hilarious, but i guess the strategies in the later levels were too repetitive. On the whole, good job though. If you intend to check out a dodgeball game on SNES, try 'Kunio-Kun no Dodge Ball Dayo Zenin Shuugo'. It features tonnes of super shots, though they have to be purchased. But still it may be cool to showcase how each kind of super shot could like humiliate the CPU :)

Whoa, this is a great run for a first submission! Very well done... though I didn't quite get why the re-Gator wasn't disposed immediately with the shouryuken. Great job anyway!

I think it should be added that its a 100% item run, though as mentioned before getting the shouryuken is in its own right a mega time saver.

zefiris: your method is sort of an induction right? not sure about your notation(function?) mod; when you use it, the value it presents is the remainder of the quotient, am I right? Nice solution though. I like how you make easy work of our questions haha. Alright, let's now take a break from all our brain wrecking math, and chill with some math humor. Enjoy :)

So, unless someone spots a new strat for a specific field, this isn't going to be beaten, I believe.
In a way I am surprised that a run done so quickly relied purely on inhuman manuvers and not bug/glitches. Correct me if I am wrong, but aside from the U + D ladder glitch, there aren't any known bugs/collision abuses etc possible right? I think unless some guy comes along with a knowledge of some new bug, this run should be pretty safe...

That's an interesting solution... yay i finally can submit my assignment haha.
but (k^(1/k-1)) when increasing k goes to 1 from above, and the ony integer value it takes is 2 (you can build graph (y(x) = x^(1/x-1)) and see yourself)
Though I personally hope that there is another way of working around this. It doesn't really look very convincing, unless of course i use graphamatica. Any other solutions? Thanks zefiris anyway, you showed me how to proceed past a=k^(1/k-1) :)

Oh, I got a question! Found this in my math text and couldn't quite solve it even until now: The positive integers a and b, where a<b, satisfy the equation a^b=b^a Show that there is only 1 possible value for a and one for b, and find these values. Couldn't quite do the first part, though the second one came almost intuitively. PS. for the answer of the second part: a=2, b=4 edit: the answer was still quite visible on tiny, so I coloured it out :)
