Just curious, but have anyone discovered any glitches or perhaps animation/movement/velocity cancellation tricks? Perhaps it would be a good time now to explore the possibilities that get sonic to a complete halt in perhaps a frame or 2 so that spindash becomes much more useful...

OMG, you pwned the game so bad it doesn't want you to carry on :S But apparently if you just keep holding turbo, eventually it will end and bring you back to the select screen... still this is very odd

Make sure you are using a similar version of the emulator... if you are using fceu-0.98.15/.16 on a movie made on fceu-0.98.12, it tends to desync.

Hello all, According to speedruns.net, we now have a re-recording C64 emulator! You can find the download link and a tutorial on the main page. However, I don't see anything in the tutorial about a frame-advance feature. If you try this, please let us know if it's there or not. So, what TAS-worthy material is there, anyway? Great Giana Sisters, Turrican, and Last Ninja spring to mind - I know very little about this platform, though, so there has to be far more! Time for a new subforum, perhaps? -Josh
I see you missed out this thread in the Other Emulators section... Anyway about frame-advance on the emulator, I doubt it has been implemented. http://www.c64-longplays.de/ may be a good site to check out if you are really interested in C64 demos, not much of a speedruns/TAS site, but it's the closest we get for now.

As for floating upwards -- when you hit the Start button when Megaman is receiving damage, the weapon box will normally be brought up. However, if there's one of your weapons at the screen at the same time (bomb, magnet beam, any projectile), the weapon box will not appear, and instead, Megaman will appear to receive the damage again. When Megaman receives damage, he bounces up a little bit. This was simply repeated multiple times. Also, each time he receives damage, some sweatdrops are generated. In Bombman's battle, the number of these sweatdrops is intentionally increased above the maximum limit so that when Bombman's bomb denotates, the object table, which can only contain a fixed number of objects, is overflowed, and as a result, Megaman's data is overwritten, causing some glitching.
I never knew that was how the glitch worked... This is insightful

Interesting... the first DOSBox run ever made in TAS history :) Just wonder if it is possible to upload the run to Youtube or something so that it's more convenient for viewing...

Wow, savings of 75 frames on the first level only? This will be good :) Will view the WIP as soon as I get a hold of my computer. EDIT: Very nice, it looks very tightly optimized now. Somehow the greater use of jumping makes the run look so much more pleasing to me... probably due to the fact it makes Peter Pan look so much more acrobatic as compared to the mundane running. Good job, can't wait for the next WIP

Uh-oh... you just broke the rules of the forum by posting a rom link... And anyway, why not try making the TAS yourself. You sound to know the game quite well, and if it really is one of your favourite childhood games, this TAS project should be pretty enjoyable for you. Like what ZeXr0 said, you could post your WIPs here and we will all be more than happy to give you comments

I just noticed this, in the NES movies page: NES "4 Player" Nightmare On Elm Street (USA) in 16:15.75 by Gonzalo Espinosa (aka. chupapi). NES A Nightmare On Elm Street (USA) in 14:32.88 by Johan Södling (aka. Randil). I think the editors ought to rectify this so the movies would be grouped together, cos at the moment, 1 movie is displayed at the top of the page while the other is somewhere in the middle.

Anyone ever told you that you sound "a little" like Phil? Anyway I'm going to give your run a watch to see if it matches up to what is being said... Btw, please provide the GoodNES rom name next time... EDIT: Just finished watching it, I'm wondering why didn't you take damage to bump yourself forward for most of the side scrolling? I mean your health is almost always full, so might as well make use of it to save time, no? The bosses look quite well done in general but just one question: during the green T-Rex fight, why do you keep moving back instead of standing still, letting it walk through you and spamming the crap out of it from behind? Will hold my vote till I hear from you again

Bump... any progress since then? Chanced upon this Jap Blog which links to many TAS/Speedrun videos hosted online already (quite a number of them are from here too). Anyway, I saw this very interesting link: SGnG completed in 35m40s. I haven't managed to watch it yet (cos the stupid AmebaVision refuses to play the video stream but only plays the audio), but if it is a full completion without cheat codes, it can well set a new benchmark for the people working on this run. PS: I have absolutely no idea who made the run... maybe someone who can read Jap can shed some light on the topic. EDIT: Found the run hosted in parts on google videos. According to the description, the author plays through both loops! Going to watch it now to see for myself

I've been playing the GBA remake for a few hours now, and I've got to say it feels damn different from the SNES version. In a way, it feels almost as though I am playing ToD, with the ToP script dumped into it... but anyway, here's what I like and dislike about the GBA remake: LIKES - Sprites look much better as compared to SNES version - Battle system now features more basic strikes for example upwards slash - Sprinting - Diagonal movements on the world map - EVERYTHING IS IN ENGLISH! DISLIKES - The environment is too brightly coloured that it looks ugly - The game suffers from lag in some places - Battle screen is much slower than before (due to lag?) - The voice acting is utterly disgusting - The enemies are too bloody hard at the start (bees take 4-5 hits to kill, and bugbears can counterattack very quickly after they get hit!) I know that alexpenev attempted a run for the SNES version but it couldn't be accepted since it used DeJap's English Translation... but now that US version of ToP is released, would anyone be interested in doing it?

I just got my hands on the US version FF6 Advance... and I've got to say it look damn sweet. Menus now look much better, and item & spell names are more complete! For those who are too used to playing the SNES/PS version of FF6, switching over to this version would probably need quite a bit of getting used to... many items, skills and spells etc have all been renamed. For example SwordTechs are now known as Bushidos, which sounds really weird :S Btw, Catastrophe, now that the US version is out, will you be starting work on this soon?

Man, this game is getting weird. "Power blast" while hanging from a rope... lmao. Other than the constant squat-wobbling (squabbling?) and generally uninteresting/uninspired use of waiting periods (like rolling into the corner- or did that serve a purpose?) it was fantastic. Yes vote, naturally.
Rolling into the corner is usually used for luck manipulation purposes, or occasionally to skip dialogue and make arrows appear faster. As for the "squabbling", I think it makes sketch look cute, as though he is gushing :P EDIT: Btw, "Power Blast"-ing from the rope is intended by the game... the charring of the rope seems to be a graphical glitch though

But the fact that this is a secret ending sets it in a different category doesn't it? It's like the game ends prematurely

Nice and quick run, worth publishing though I don't think it should obsolete the old run. True this run may be faster up to the point of the secret ending, but there are too many differing factors which prevents them from being judged similarly. The rom change gives you lives/health to abuse, which sort of changes the game. And choosing the secret ending which can be attained more quickly is also another big factor that sets this run apart from the previous one. In other words, this run should be published, but it should be under a different category and should not obsolete the existing run.

The game was boring but the run was well planned and played... that, and the fact that it improves a published movie by quite a large margin warrants a YES vote from me :)

SHIT! I can't believe I overlooked this!! I reckon this can save at least 6-7 seconds on that screen alone... But I will be pretty busy for a long long time, can barely get my hands on my comp for more than 5 hours a week. How about you trying to improve it? There are plenty of other small optimizations that can be done all over, see if you can get it under 10 min :)

YES Vote for this great run... though I would prefer if JXQ's Castlevania HOD takes over the star. In my opinion, the pace of the movie makes it far more exciting for viewers
